Chapter 4 Pool party

  • For almost a week after the accident, Riviera stayed inside. Trying to escape the pity party, which seems to always turn up at her doorstep, and she is also trying to avoid the Alpha. Still not understanding her infatuation with him. She doesn't understand half the stuff that is going on.
  • Her mother had told her that when school starts, she will learn all she needs to know, but she doesn't want to learn anything. All she wants to do is go back home. She is missing all the summer fun with her friends. They should go on a mini camping trip today.
  • Riviera stares at the newly installed pool. She doesn't even have a way to contact them. Thinking that it must confuse them when they went to her old house and find that it is empty. Would they think someone has kidnapped her?
  • Riviera groans, then gets up from her window seat and makes her way downstairs for breakfast. She feels so alone in this big house. Her mother is always at work. The maid, Justina, said little to her. All she does is cook, clean and go home.
  • When she gets to the kitchen, she was just in time to see her mother posting a sticky note on one of the stainless steel Samsung fridge doors. Her mother had promised a mother/daughter. But now it seems as if she has other plans.
  • Riviera reads the note.
  • It turns out that her mother can, in fact, leave, but only for work or important matters.
  • Riviera takes a seat at the counter, ignoring her mother as she says goodbye.
  • The maid places a plate with a cheeseburger and fries before her.
  • "Thanks." She mumbles.
  • Thinking up a way to enjoy today.
  • "Hey, Justina. If I want to invite friends over, how do I do that?" Riviera inquires.
  • "That is not a good idea, but all you have to do is send a mind link." She replies, while busy with cleaning the stove.
  • "A mind link?"
  • "Yes, that's how wolves communicate with each other. All you have to do is think of the person you wish to reach and send them your thoughts, or talk to them." Justina says.
  • "Can you do that for me, please? To Garcia, tell her pool party at my house."
  • Justina makes a face. "I don't think you should do that, especially with your mother's absence. And that Gracia girl isn't one to keep company with."
  • "What do you know?" Riviera pushes her plate away, then stomps off.
  • She sits on the floor in her room, trying to find something to occupy her time. But with no TV, laptop or a cellphone, she couldn't.
  • Then a knock sounds at her door, and Justina pokes her head in. "Your friends are here."
  • She didn't think Justina would have called them over, and the way she said the word friends is enough for Rivera to see that she doesn't like the idea.
  • But why have such a gigantic pool if she can't enjoy it?
  • Riviera quickly changes off into a new two-piece swimwear her mother bought.
  • Pink isn't her favorite colour, but she will make do.
  • She rushes downstairs to where Justina is dusting the bust that is on a table in the middle of the foyer.
  • "They are already outside." She points the feathery duster in the pool's direction.
  • In her excitement, Riviera dash outside, but her face soon falls after seeing several dozen people milling around.
  • She didn't expect to see so many.
  • "Riviera! There you are, I was so worried about you." Garcia pulls her into a half hug then gives her air kisses.
  • "Who are all these people?"
  • "You were the one to say party. I simply sent out a couple of invitations." Garcia smiles.
  • "A couple. There are maybe 50 people in my backyard."
  • "And there is space for more."
  • Riviera opens her mouth to speak.
  • "What is she wearing? Zebra stripes are so last season." Garcia scoffs, then walks away.
  • Things got out of control pretty fast.
  • Someone had a jet ski in the pool doing flips, a statue is broken and there is trash everywhere.
  • "This is not happening. Mom is going to kill me."
  • Riviera goes in search of Gracia, which she finds her making out with Erich.
  • The kissing sounds they make almost made her gag.
  • "Garcia, I need to get all these people out," Riviera says, but the other girl is consumed in her make-out session.
  • "Garcia!" Riviera gives her a small push.
  • "What!? What is your problem? It was your idea to keep this party." Garcia snaps.
  • "No, I only invited you, thinking that you would only bring him and Christa."
  • Garcia rolls her eyes. "Whatever. Figure it out on your own."
  • Riviera closes her eyes. She just wants this party to be over and that jet ski out of the pool.
  • And that's when everything goes left.
  • The pool boils and steam, then the water evaporates out of the pool.
  • Someone screams as brown water gushes from the statue, then in the middle of it all, the ground mysteriously burst into flames.
  • A girl bumps into Riviera, causing some blue drink to spill on Garcia's all-white bathing suit.
  • "What the hell." Garcia pushes at Riveria.
  • "Don't push me." Riviera pushes her back. "I know you saw that girl bumping into me."
  • "You have been jealous of me since you got here." Gracia pushes her again.
  • Riveria laugh in her face, "jealous? Of what? Because you have nothing I want, not your face. Not your hair or outdated clothes."
  • Garcia's face turns red under her orange tan. She slaps Riviera across the face.
  • And that causes a fight to break out. Riviera tries to kick Garcia in the chest, but she dodges and hits a boy in the back, thinking that it must have been Erich. He turns and sends a punch flying in his face.
  • "Erich! Look what you have done!" Gracia screech.
  • She grabs a hold of Riviera's hair and tries to slam her head on a table, Riviera some wraps her hand around Gracia's neck and put her in a chokehold.
  • After seeing that Riviera is getting the upper hand, Garcia shifts.
  • In a state of shock, Riviera drops to the ground and stares up at the wolf. But she soon gets over her fright and dodges Garcia's attack.
  • The two fight and roll on the ground, with Garcia snapping and growling and Riviera holding her own.
  • The fight goes on with everyone chanting "fight, fight, fight." And placing bets on who they think would win.
  • A loud growl and powerful arms pulling Riviera off Garcia is what breaks up the fight.
  • The large wolf barks and everyone hurries away.
  • Riviera stares at the wolf, who didn't seem pleased. At first, she thought it must have been Justina. But there is no way sit could be since she is holding her.
  • The brown colour wolf starts, and that's why she realises it is her mother.
  • She gapes. Never has she seen her mother like that before.
  • "Come," Mary-Kate says and turns away.
  • "I leave for not even 2 hours and you thought it would be a good idea to throw a party. It is a good thing Justina called me."
  • "What were you thinking, Riviera?"
  • Mary-Kate has never been so angry at her daughter before, maybe it is because she was worried and scared after seeing a wolf snapping at or. Or maybe because of how irresponsible Riviera is.
  • "How do you ever explain the empty pool and jet ski?"
  • Riveria looks down at her feet, not knowing what to say.
  • "Just go to your room."
  • Riviera did just that and stay there for the rest of the day.
