Chapter 4 Breaking The Bond

  • Despite her expectations of his act, Tessa still felt a piercing pain in her heart. She knew he was not remorseful about cheating on her. Yet, she still felt a pang of pain upon hearing his words.
  • The feeling of getting stabbed in the back like that was not good. It felt extremely terrible.
  • She had expected his actions. But still, how could he not feel any ounce of connection or guilt for what he had done to her?
  • ‘’I don’t need you anymore.’’ Chris started as he stared intently into her hazel-colored eye.
  • Tessa did not want to look into his eyes, but she caught herself doing it. The eyes that once ran over her body and looked at her with love and care in them. Those same eyes that got her living the best life were now staring at her with utmost anger in them.
  • She had never felt so betrayed in her life.
  • Deep down, Tessa felt the urge to reveal to Chris that she was pregnant with his child and end the whole drama. But she managed to restrain herself from doing so.
  • As she stared at the man, she tried to form some comeback words. But, in the end, she gave up trying to say anything. She refused to utter any as she knew that she would only spout a stutter.
  • She shut her eyes for a nanosecond and finally looked at Chris.
  • ‘’Do whatever you want. I don’t give a damn.’’ Tessa growled and walked out of the dining section into the corridor that led to the front yard.
  • Why was her heartbeat racing?
  • From a distance away from the dining, she could still hear a series of low, whispered discussions. Then, it was followed by sudden loud laughter of Chris.
  • She could not take it anymore. She hurried out of the living room and rested her back against a wall while trying to control her fast racing heartbeat.
  • She was sure that no guard was around the environment. Thus, she buried her face in her palm, heaving lightly. She wanted to cry her heart out. But, she managed to restrain herself.
  • ‘I will not cry.’
  • ‘He is the villain in my life.’
  • "He doesn’t deserve me," she whispered to herself until she heard the sound of a car entering the compound.
  • As she looked up, she sighted some men at the far end of the garage, alighting from a car.
  • Tessa's eyes squinted as she watched closely. As they approached, she felt her heartbeat racing.
  • The golden robe worn by the 5 men, revealed their identity in a millisecond.
  • The elders had arrived.
  • Her marriage was truly about to end.
  • She hurried back into the pack house to look at herself in the mirror. As she stared at her reflection in the mirror, she could see that her face was tear-stained and she looked forlorn. She picked a towel and wiped her face neatly before flashing a small smile.
  • Although it was not the best she could offer on a usual meeting day, she still managed to put up a confident look on her face.
  • Tessa then headed towards the throne room.
  • She could hear Chris complaining to the elder as she walked into the hallway that led to the throne room. Tessa rolled her eyes in contempt.
  • As she entered the room, she was shocked to see the elders already seated at the long table. The moment she appeared, their gazes were fixated on her.
  • She looked to the side of the room and saw Mona seated on the conference table with her legs crossed on her lap. Beside her was Chris. Normally, Tessa would be the only one occupying that space beside her husband.
  • But, it had only been a few minutes and she had lost the right to respect as a Luna. But, Tessa wasn't bothered about that.
  • She had made up her mind. Her child was her top priority. She would give birth to the child safe and sound. And, she would be the only parent.
  • Tessa could read the smile on Chris's face and it had no sign of sadness or regret. Only complacency. She knew too well that he didn't love her. All he wanted was the benefits he could get from marrying her.
  • Tessa let out an inward sigh as she fully stepped into the hall.
  • ‘’Let the bond-breaking ceremony begin.’’ One of the elders whose name seemed to be Darnold rose from his seat and announced.
  • ‘’Alpha Chris and Luna Tessa, please come forward.’’ The elder added.
  • Tessa took a deep breath as she took a few steps towards the long table where the elders were seated.
  • As she threw a side glance towards where Chris was seated, she could see him whispering intimately into Mona's ears.
  • Tessa pursed her lips grimly and turned her face away.
  • ‘How could he not feel guilty?' She thought.
  • ‘’Alpha Chris, do you want to end the mating bond which you share with your mate and Luna?’’ The elder asked with his gaze intently fixed on Chris.
  • ‘’Yes, I do,’’ Chris replied without even a flinch. There was no hesitation in his voice.
  • There was an indifferent tone that lingered in his reply that got Tessa fuming with anger within her heart.
  • ‘’Luna Tessa, do you want to end the mating bond, which you share with Alpha Chris?’’
  • The elder shifted his gaze from Chris and stared at Tessa.
  • Tessa did not have much of a choice. Once the Alpha accepted the breaking of the mate bond, the Luna would have to accept it that way. She was equally mandated to accept.
  • The moment had arrived. She was a strong lady.
  • ‘’Yes, I do.’’ Tessa finally uttered with her eyes still fixed on the Elder who asked the question.
  • The Elder turned to Chris and said to him, "You know what to do now Alpha."
  • Chris nodded, showing his understanding. Then, he turned towards Tessa and announced, "I, Chris Donovan hereby reject you Tessa Williams as my mate and Luna from this moment onwards."
  • Tessa stumbled back almost immediately. She felt a numbing pain assault her whole body. She screamed out from the pain and squatted in a corner.
  • Everyone was watching her quietly. But, no one stepped out to console or ease her pain.
  • Slowly, the assaulting pain began to lessen. Tessa heaved breathlessly feeling more lightweight. She felt as though something had been broken inside her.
  • The elder officiating the ceremony walked toward her and stopped in front of her. He looked downwards at her and said, "It's your turn to reject the Alpha now."
  • Tessa nodded, understanding his words. Then, she sat up and looked at Chris. Then, she muttered, "I, Tessa Williams hereby reject Chris Donovan as my mate."
  • Chris also doubled over feeling the snap of the bond being broken. He squatted on the floor for some time and Mona was beside him, consoling him.
  • Tessa struggled up the floor. She could feel a sense of emptiness in her heart. It felt numb and discomforting.
  • The four elders who were seated rose to their feet. The eldest elder brought out a full-shaped moon pendant, which hung from a chain.
  • He stretched the necklace in the air, giving everyone a clear view. Then, he brought his other hand towards the necklace and broke the moon-shaped pendant into two halves.
  • ‘’Hand me your marital necklace.’’ The Elder stretched his palm towards Chris, who immediately removed the necklace that had a crescent moon-shaped pendant from his neck and handed it to the Elder.
  • Tessa let out a deep breath as she did the same.
  • Chris's pendant was broken, followed by hers.
  • ‘’It is done.’’ The elders said in accordance.
  • The mate bond had been broken.
  • Tessa felt her legs grow weak.
  • She felt like if she stayed any longer in a room with her husband and sister, she would throw a tantrum.
  • Tessa hurried out of the throne room without looking back. She could hear voices as she left. She knew they were discussing her.
  • Tessa walked through the hallway and hurried into a guest room. Then, she entered and fell on the king-sized bed.
  • Her marriage had ended.
