Chapter 6

  • “Daddy, Nora has been locked up in the room for the longest time. Why don't you allow her out for a little while to join the family to have lunch?”
  • Standing in front of her father, Gilbert Willard, who held a newspaper article to his face and wearing reading glasses, Nancy requested with an exquisite expression on her face.
  • When Gilbert heard what she said, he simply closed the newspaper in his hands. Then, raised his eyes to look at his daughter.
  • “Nancy, you are so naive. You still don't know what your sister has done, do you? I can't let her out of that room until she learns to be dignified... Let her rot in that room, I don't care what happens to her” Gilbert Willard plucked his face and said.
  • After that, he began to read his article once more without sparing the young girl another glance.
  • “But Dad, what if something happens to her? I'm sure she hasn't eaten anything good in the last three weeks, I'm really so worried about her, daddy. Please, just let her out this time and she won't do anything wrong anymore”
  • Nancy persisted. The expression on her face was filled with concern and anyone could easily fall for her expression.
  • “Why do you even worry about a person like that who doesn't deserve anything good?” Tessa Warner, who just came through the door spoke from the entrance. “Just let her die in there. After all, it would be easier to get rid of her and our Willard won't be blamed for anything”
  • She said and walked into the living room, with a few shopping bags in hand.
  • “Gilbert, I met with Madam Quade for the female fashion corporations and after that went shopping for a few outfits,” Tessa Warner said as she dropped the bags on the table next to her.
  • “Here, Nancy. I got this dress for you. Have a look at it and see if it fits” Tessa Warner held out a dress for her.
  • “Thank you, mommy. Did you get one for Nora as well? Where is it? Let me have it and I'll go show it to her immediately”
  • Nancy's eyes glint with excitement as she waited for a response from her mother.
  • “Don't you even understand anything at all? I didn't get anything for her, you are my only child, and got the dress for you alone” Tessa was very stern with her words.
  • “You know how unhappy Nora is right now, Mommy. You should buy a dress for her, it would have helped in pacing her” Nancy looked sad and lowered her head as if she was down casted.
  • “Don't give me that look, Nancy. You can't change my mind about this. Just go on and try on your dress but I won't give in to your words no matter what” Tessa quickly picked up the rest of the shopping bags and headed to her room.
  • Nancy watched until her mother was out of sight, then she turned back to her father and said, “If you are still angry and wouldn't let Nora out of the room, can I bring some food to her room...Please, don't say no” Nancy brooded her face as she pleaded for this.
  • Seeing the pleading expression on his precious daughter's face, Gilbert was touched.
  • He dropped the paper on the coffee table, removed the glass, and said,“ I don't care what you do with her but just don't let that jinx out of her room until I say so, did you understand?”
  • “Yes, dad. I understand. I'm just bringing her some food and nothing more than that” Nancy held a wide smile on her face as she spoke.
  • With that, she immediately sprinted to the kitchen.
  • This was her first time being in the kitchen since she was born, she has never liked the kitchen and never had the intention of being in the kitchen either.
  • They had so many maids to do the house chores and Nora was also there to do the chores.
  • Nancy being a princess was never allowed to do anything.
  • When Gilbert saw Nancy running to the kitchen with a face filled with joy, he couldn't help but think of the kind heart that his daughter have.
  • She even has such great love for a sister like Nora, who was nothing less than a curse to their family.
  • Soon after,
  • Nancy was standing in front of Nora's room with a maid beside her holding a tray of food.
  • “Knock! Knock! Open up, Nora. It's me your sister, Nancy. Please don't sulk anymore, just open the door and let me serve you first” Nancy said with a sweet voice.“You haven't eaten anything good in the past few weeks, so I got something for you to eat”.
  • The tone of her voice was so calm and meticulous. It felt as if she was whispering a few words of honey into someone's ears.
  • The maid beside her was also impressed with her kind attitude towards her. She smiled at her back and didn't say anything.
  • “Miss, the door is also locked from the outside. You have it opened from the outside with a spare key first”
  • After a while, the maid said while handing her a spare key with a smile.
  • “Oh my! I almost forgot about that, I'm so worried about my sister and I become so forgetful out of worry. Thank you for reminding me” Nancy smiled and took the key from her.
  • After opening the door from the outside, Nancy held the knob and said, “Nor a, I'm going to come into your room now, I brought you lunch.”
  • With that, she slide the door open and propelled herself into the room slowly. When she was standing a leg in the room, she looked back and beckoned the maid to hand her the tray.
  • “Thank you, you can leave now”.
  • After sending the maid away, Nancy took the tray of food and brought it into Nora's room.
  • “Here, I brought you your favorite food. I'm sure you will be ecstatic after having a taste of this....Do you know what? I asked the maid to prepare the food right under my supervision, you won't find anything to complain about, I promise you” Nancy spoke excitedly as she dropped the tray on the table.
  • Nora was initially surprised to see her sister speaking so many words at once. Nancy never spoke more than ten words in a single conversation.
  • Because of her dignified way of speaking, their parents felt she had a dignified etiquette of a young mistress.
  • However, Nora wasn't used to this side of her sister at all.
  • Keeping her thoughts to herself, Nora continue to sleep on her bed without glancing at her sister, who was standing at the edge of the bed.
  • After a while, she heard her sister speak, “Please stand up and have your food.... it is yummy, don't you want to try it?” Nancy stood at the side of the bed.
  • She had a smile on her face as she looked at her sister with empathy.
  • “You know what, Nora? Daddy didn't want me to bring this food over for you but I know how much you must have been craving this. So, I begged him to let me bring this over for you. Won't you even try it for my sake?” Nancy asked in a pitiful tone.
  • Nora felt her heart squirming with disdain when she heard her sister's words. After that, she suddenly began to doubt herself and now she didn't want to give room for mistakes.
  • However, she didn't want to hurt Nancy, who was the only one by her side all these years. Because of that, she grudgingly stood up from the bed.
  • Her body was wailing with pain and the weight of her body seems to have increased somehow. She didn't feel good at all.
  • “If they are not in support of you being here. Then, why are you here then? You shouldn't make mistakes for my sake, Nancy” Nora didn't have much energy but she meticulously let out her words.
  • “Why wouldn't I care? You are my sister. Even though I know what you did was wrong, I couldn't let you off because of that....But honestly, You shouldn't have slept with a stranger like that, did you forget you are marrying Julius. What will other people think of you now? I'm really so worried for you”. Nancy said.
  • Silence ensued after she said that, immediately she quickly puckered her lips after she realized what she said.
  • She raised her brows to look at Nora with a complicated gaze, “I'm sorry, I didn't mean to remind you of that night. Come here, I brought your favorite shellfish soup, come to have some”
  • After saying that, Nancy removed the cover to show the content of the plate.
  • Immediately she did, the aroma of the shellfish soup rent the air, and the entire place was soon covered with the thick whiff.
  • Nora clenched her fists and looked at her sister, Nancy with her dispirited eyes “Nancy, we were celebrating together, right? Why did you leave without me that day, Nancy? You.....”
  • Before Nora could finish her words, the thick whiff from the shellfish got into her nostrils and she felt squeamishness immediately.
  • It felt as if she was going to throw up right in the room. However, she quickly sprinted to the bathroom with all of her might.
  • Nancy stood there with an aghast expression. And ran towards the bathroom as well.
  • “What's going on? Are you alright, Nora?” Nancy said as she ran towards the bathroom.
  • “Did you eat something bad? Are you sick?” The tone of Nancy's voice was likely filled with concern from the outside but she was curious from the inside.
