Chapter 3

  • “I don't know what you are talking about, dad. I really don't have any marks on me” Nora inadvertently pulled up the piece of clothes to cover the marks on her nape and hide away the marks.
  • However, Nancy, who was still holding her hands at this time, simply couldn't watch the country pumpkin get away without her purpose being fulfilled.
  • Because of this, she lifted her hand slowly and pretended to have mistakenly pulled on her clothes as she fell forward.
  • When she fell forward and held Nora's clothes, the piece of cloth covering the purple marks around her neck also pulled away, revealing the brightly colored love marks.
  • “What happened to you, Nora? Did you get bitten by a mosquito? Is that why you have so many marks around your neck? Should I take you to the hospital to get treated before you fall I'll because of the mosquito bites?” Nancy asked with a tone filled with concern as she indeliberately held onto the line of the cloth to show the mark even more.
  • When Gilbert and Tessa saw the way Nancy was naively caring about her shameless sister, they were enraged.
  • They felt that Nancy was too innocent to understand what the love bites meant and because of her innocent naivety, she was caring about a shameless hawk.
  • “Should I repeat myself to you or will you say the truth right now?” Gilbert raised the tone of his voice so loud, that everyone shuddered.
  • “I'm telling you the truth, dad. I don't know anything about this matter and I didn't do anything wrong.....I was with Cecilia and Nancy I...”
  • Smack!
  • Before Nora could finish her words, her smooth face was covered with a large piece of a handprint.
  • For a moment, Nora was dumbfounded. She couldn't feel her face at all. It felt like a layer of ice was tied to the side of her face, and the frosting feeling in her face froze for a second before she began to feel the pains.
  • Tears began to stream down her cheeks as she closed her eyes and held the side of her face that was slapped by God knows who.
  • “How dare you lie straight to our faces, Nora? You go out around foolishly tarnishing our reputation and you have the nerves to lie to us even after all the evidence? You are worse than a devil!”
  • Nora opened her eyes to see the woman standing in front of her with an angry expression. She was fuming with her, and snowy smoke spark out of nose strings as she yelled.
  • Saddened by the reality before her, Nora couldn't help but feel her heart falling into an abyss of darkness.
  • Her mother, Tessa Warner, hated her without reason. She never wastes any chance to hurt her for simply committing a trivial error.
  • Nora still couldn't understand why her parents hated her this much. However, she still did everything to please them even if cost her all her dignity.
  • “Gilbert, I told you, it was useless bringing this shameless hawk back to the Willard mansion. No matter how much, we try to groom her, she will always remain a country piglet. This ugly pig will ruin our family's good name if we keep her around for too long. Who knows what she had done this time and with whom?” Tessa Warner was agitated. She spoke disdainfully about Nora.
  • Her words were a clear inkling of how much she despised the young girl.
  • Discerning the situation before her, Nora felt like beating herself to death for being shameless to the name of the Willard family.
  • She wished she was never born or didn't have been born into the Willard, at least they wouldn't have been so ashamed of her as they do now.
  • “Mom, what has Nora done? Why are you beating her so much? If she has committed a mistake then why don't we explain things to her instead? She might understand better if we do that, and she would never repeat her mistakes again. Please, don't beat her, Mom. She won't survive it” Nancy solicited with a sweet voice.
  • Hearing her voice, Nora was grateful for having a wonderful sister like Nancy who fights for her in the midst of ordeals. She couldn't ask for anything else.
  • However, when her mother heard her words, her heart rages with more viciousness.
  • She glared at Nora disdainfully and snorted, “Why are you so naive to deceive this countryside hawk, Nancy? This girl has not committed a forgivable mistake, she has committed a crime. She's going to ruin our name and reputation kn society. I hate your guts! I hate your face, why didn't you die at birth!?”
  • Tessa Warner charged forward and grabbed her daughter, Nora by the neck and tried to choke her to death.
  • “Just die already! Due and stop being a shame our Willard family!” She pressed on her neck harder and tried to take her breath away.
  • Her grip was so firm. In no time, Nora found it very difficult to breathe because of her chokehold.
  • Nora was running out of her breath. Her eyes became blubbering as she forcefully took a handful of breaths.
  • “I won't let you off this time, you deserve to die a terrible death. And I will kill you with my hands, I will kill you and save myself from the shame of being a mother to dirty trash like you”
  • As she said this, she held Nora tightly with both of her hands encircled around the girl's neck even more.
  • Detecting that Tessa Warner was indeed serious about her threats, Gilbert and Nancy became alerted immediately as they charged forward to pull Tessa away from Nora.
  • “What are you up to, Tessa? Have you gone mad? Do you plan to choke her to death and leave the name of the Willard in blemish?” Gilbert howled at the woman as he tried frantically to pull Tessa's grip away from Nora.
  • She was hellbent on killing the girl, and because of this, the chokehold on her neck was so tight that it took a while and effort of people to pull her away from Nora.
  • “What's wrong with you? Have you gone insane, Tessa? What if you had killed her with your own hands? What do you want people to say about our Family?”
  • Gilbert scolded her after she was eventually pulled away from Nora.
  • Nora fell to the floor and scramble to regain her balance in life. However, she has lost so much energy. She took quick, sharp breaths and tried to keep herself alive.
  • Looking at her with pure hatred, Tess rolled her eyes and said, “I don't care if she dies by my hands or by an accident. I just want her gone, you should have allowed me to choke the life out of her miserable self. She doesn't deserve to live anymore” Tessa fumed.
  • Suddenly, they heard Nancy shouting.
  • “Daddy! Mommy! Look Nora is so scared now, don't do this kind of thing to her in the future, mom. I know she might make a big mistake but you almost killed her, it's not right at all that you did that to her. Have you ever thought about this, what if she didn't know any better?” Nancy's lovely and calm voice rang out from the floor, where she was squatting helping out Nora, who was still struggling with life.
  • “I told you already, don't fall for her silly antics of an innocent girl. She's just a conniving witch with malicious intentions. I wonder where she got her evil-mindedness from, I guess she has been influenced after staying in the countryside for too long. I'm so ashamed of calling her a member of the Willard family” Tess bite her lips bitterly as she recalled this matter.
  • Suddenly, everyone noticed that Gilbert had gone awfully quiet. They soon turn their gaze on him for questioning.
  • “Dad, why aren't you saying anything? What's going on in your mind?” Nancy looked at her father with a perceived expression.
  • “Yes Gilbert, what have you decided about this girl? You know she can't stay here anymore, right? What is she went ahead to influence my precious, Nancy? What would we do then? Because of this, we should better send her away as soon as possible to avoid future troubles that might accompany her, I don't want Nancy to be affected by her”
  • Tessa was even more worried about Nancy than she was about Nora and it was clearly visible in her tone and action.
  • “Quit your nonsense and think about this matter carefully now. We brought Nora back to stand in as the bride of the second son of the Quade instead of Nancy, if we let her go back after getting her engaged to Julius Quade, what will happen if the media get hold of this? Our name will be tarnished even more..Lets us all pretend to like something like this never happened in the first place. We can keep both our partnership with the Quade family as well as our prestige in the city. ” Gilbert said thoughtfully.
  • “What about her, Gilbert? I can't let her stay here after all of this. She can't stay here anymore ” Tessa was still not ready to let things slide.
  • “Don't worry after she gets married in five weeks, you wouldn't have to put up with her nonsense anymore” Gilbert tried to convince Tessa.
  • “Yeah you are right, I was being irrational. The thing is, I'm really worried for Nancy, I don't want Nancy to be implicated by her bad behavior”.
  • Nancy smiled within after she saw the outcome of everything. Everyone was still on her side and she was still the only princess of the Willard family, Nancy Drew Willard.
  • She held her shoulders high with pride.
  • “But mom, Nora!” Nancy pretended to care about her sister.
  • In reality, she wanted to know what will happen to Nora now.
  • At the mention of this, Gilbert raised his head and looked at Cecilia sternly, “You can go home now, Miss Emerson, I will send you a token of love...Just do me a favor, forget everything that happened here today, can you do that for me?” Gilbert narrowed his eyes and asked.
  • Cecilia inadvertently fell on Nora, who had finally calmed down. She shuddered at the sight of those deep black eyes.
  • With a shaky voice, she replied, “Yes uncle, nothing at all happened here today. I will remember to keep that in mind. I will get going now, my parents must be so worried about me now” Cecilia clumsily walked out of the living room, her legs were wobbling.
  • With Cecilia gone, only the family of four were left in the living room with no maids around either.
  • “As for her, lock her up in the room until she learns her boundaries. Not a day out of a whole month should be found missing.”
  • With that, Gilbert turn around and left immediately without a chance for refutal.
  • “Dad!”
