Chapter 9 - The Wreck

  • Zara
  • “We both know I gave you a week to come to terms with this marriage, dear wife”, he whispers seductively as I tried to resist him with the little strength I had left.
  • “All heard but there has been a slight change of events you know”, I say looking at him daringly as I gently pulled away from his hands taking two steps back.
  • “Where exactly are you heading at?”, he asks trying to pull me in again but I instantly dodge it like I’m in a fight with an enemy.
  • “You. I’m heading to you, you know. Your actions which makes this attempt more stupid!”, I say. So much for all the training mum gave me while growing up talk less of my dad who was always more understanding.
  • “What do you mean, Zara?”, he said. I silently wondered that this was the first he had ever called my name. He was too arrogant and aggressive and called me ‘wife’ or ‘little one’. Just who exactly did he think he was?
  • “Your unfaithful ways in this marriage is what I mean. Oh! You men, you expect your wife to faithful to you all the days of her but, you can’t repay her loyalty by doing the same”, taking a step forward, I glared at him furiously. He smiled.
  • I blinked in confusion. What was so funny?
  • “Don’t tell me you’re jealous of that maid, Becca whom you saw the day you came to tell me of Fernanda’s attempt to flee?” he seethed glinting his teeth and I clenched mine.
  • “It’s not funny.” I strictly say.
  • “I know. See Zara. Whatever that happened between myself and Becca was before I married you. I only flirt with her not bed her presently”, he said defensively.
  • “Okay, husband.” I say in a low tone wanting to sound annoying as he made wife be when he called me that. “So, I think it’s cool to go around flirting with men, and not bed like you say” I say glaring at him, using his own point against him.
  • “Don’t just do anything stupid.” he says glancing at me as he walked to our cabin with long stripes slamming the door shut.
  • I have to say all my life, I’ve been for doing things stupid. All I had to do was to use carefully what I was blessed with to trigger him. Charm; I know I’ve always had a charm which helped my spotlight aura. This was what I was about to do…
  • * * *
  • Life’s a bitch, so as karma. I’d advise whoever that’s seeing this know and learn to not make stupid decisions because one thing leads to another then leads to you being fucked up bigtime.
  • After the ‘flirt’ conversations with Zachary, I had gone inside the cabin, ignoring him as I went to the bathroom changing to a charming outfit. I had to feel the power that he made me feel that I didn’t have. I thought as I made my way out of the cabin looking for a prey like a predator will make Zack annoyed.
  • The men looked tattered in the worn-out sailors’ outfit as they toiled trying to keep the ship moving. I scanned through the crew looking for a man that could match with Zack’s ego as I couldn’t find. I immediately scanned the crew again as I sighted someone. The ship’s captain. He looked in his mid-thirties and rolled and spinned the drive elegance. I came in front, also gaining the attention of the crew members who wondered how a pretty face wasn’t noticed before on board.
  • “Monsieur”, I say, swaying my hips and said the French accent which they all understood clearly. Most of the sailors on board where French men who partnered with Spain.
  • The captain looked at me menacingly as he glanced on my body abruptly stopping the swindle on the ship’s drive. He closed the compass as I seductively went behind his shoulders.
  • “What can ye do for you, pretty?”, he seemed enchanted by the woman in front of him as I started a song I heard was sung by sailors.
  • “15 men on a dead man’s chest.
  • Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
  • Drink and the devil had done for the rest
  • Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum…”
  • The whole crew followed after me as I swayed my hips to the song. They began making beats with different means and I silently praised myself.
  • Almost immediately, the ship shifted and hit something very big beneath the water.
  • This because the captain was distracted from the swindle.
  • Everything happened in slow motion as the crew shouted. One went knocking on the cabin’s door to Zack’s room.
  • “What’s going on?”, I say gripping one of the crew men cloth. That was the only way he could answer me.
  • “We havin ah reck”, he said instantly running. I felt my heart bit a multiple time as I sighted Zack rushing out. Water was already surfacing on the ship in swift motion as people jumped into the lifeboat. We rushed to join but it was too full.
  • “Zara, Common!”, he shouted as my legs were planted on a spot. I was in shock as his hands pulled mine. He scanned the nearest exit as I got stuck on a wooden platform. He quickly disentangled my legs from there as we sighted a life boat no one noticed.
  • “Get on,”, he said.
  • I slowly dive following his suite as he had dived in the boat earlier. Taking puffs of air and staring at the crew members. Their boats seemed overcrowded that some people fell into the water struggling for space.
  • “Zack, we have to save them”, I say.
  • “You don’t want to do that”, he said kicking the engine as it started.
  • “Why, what’s wrong with that?”, I ask.
  • “Those are crew members. They’ll threaten you with violence and even kill you. We better go”. He said as the boat moved swiftly. I sighted the last ship as it collapsed into the water.
  • SPLASH! Went the water as the boat moved. That was a near death experience and I couldn’t believe we were moving to God-knows-where.
  • I slowly gave in already tired as my eyes closed; slowly.
