Chapter 6

  • “Where do you want to go?” Ronnie asked composing herself.
  • “Just take me somewhere I’ll be able to forget the shitty day I had” she replied getting on and placing the helmet on her head.
  • “The arcade it is” she replied getting on.
  • ‘Arcade?’ Danny thought.
  • “So what happened that caused the drastic mood change. You were okay before I left, right?”
  • “Yes, but it changed. I don’t want to talk about it” she replied just wishing that Ronnie would get a move on.
  • “Why don’t you want to talk about it? We’re friends aren’t we?”
  • “We are” Danny replied.
  • “Friends share stuff” she said. “So just tell me” she whispered.
  • “Adrien said some horrible stuff to me and it just got worse because I think Kieran may like someone else” she whispered.
  • Ronnie hummed. “You really listened to that jerk? Danny forget about Adrien and how are you so sure Kieran likes someone?”
  • “I sen-, I just had a feeling that’s all” she replied coolly. ‘That was really close’ she thought.
  • “You didn’t see him with a girl, did you?” she asked.
  • “No” she replied.
  • “You see. Don’t think about it too much. Now you just need some fun in your system. Everything will turn out well in the end, you’ll see” she said and they were already moving.
  • ‘Finally!’ she thought happily.
  • “How do you know?” she asked.
  • “I just know all these things Danny. Have I let you down before?” she asked.
  • “No” she replied.
  • “Trust me on this. It’ll will work out”.
  • Ronnie has always been right with everything she said so she could trust her.
  • Danny left with her friend. Forgetting to tell Kieran what she had to again.
  • All the while both girls talked on the bike, they weren’t aware of a pair of eyes watching them.
  • The arcade turned out to be a fun place. A place filled with games. She didn’t play though, she watched. Ronnie was really good at the games she selected. Though noisy, the place had a calming vibe which she liked.
  • “I called you earlier” she told Ronnie when she was done.
  • “You did?” she asked getting her phone out of her inner pocket. “I must have been busy” she said placing it back in her pocket. “Was it important?”
  • “Yes, but it wasn’t life threatening” she brushed it off.
  • “If you say so. Let’s play more games” and Danny followed.
  • “What were you doing at the time? If you don’t mind me asking” she added.
  • “It was a family affair” she replied getting to another game and inserting a coin.
  • “Here in school?” Danny asked perplexed.
  • “Yes here in school” she replied and pushed Danny towards the game.
  • “You play” she whispered in her ear.
  • “What? I don’t know how to” she replied already panicking as she looked into the screen.
  • “Me neither. Just press all the buttons really quickly” she said behind her.
  • “No I can’t do it Ronnie” she said stepping away. “Why don’t we just get some food, yeah?”
  • “That’s boring, but okay. Don’t be such a…..Never mind”.
  • “What were you doing to say” Danny asked.
  • “Nothing” she replied.
  • “Say it!” Danny demanded. She was already angry and friend or not Ronnie should really be careful.
  • “Bore” Ronnie whispered.
  • Danny was so mad that she didn’t notice the glint in her eyes or the tiny smirk she had.
  • “I’ll show you who’s a bore” she whispered and turned to the game.
  • “Now that’s the Danny I know. Very cool” she whispered behind her.
  • Danny growled. She just had to read all their minds and that would make her great. She wasn’t a bore. She was cool.
  • Now it was a normal thing. Skipping school was part of her routine. She was surprised that her principal hadn’t called her parents that she wasn’t attending school. That woman didn’t care at all.
  • She had also undergone a complete transformation. Her hair was more purple than brown and she had finally gotten piercings like her mother had predicted. She hadn’t gotten the tattoos though. What did having to prove herself mean? Well that didn’t matter because she seemed to be proving herself real good.
  • Everyone knew her name and she liked it. She was popular and as Ronnie liked to say cool and badass. The teachers were scared of her and they always marked her present. She had fans and no one was able to stand against her. She hadn’t seen Stephanie after the tomato sauce incident.
  • She was in class not really caring. Her feet was up on her table and she was texting. She had gotten popular and a lot of people had asked for her number. It was only her parents before and then Clara. Then Ronnie and now almost the full school. Kieran had never asked for her number. It was so infuriating. Who was the girl he liked?
  • “Stop looking at me Adrien” she said her eyes still on her phone.
  • “If you didn’t want to get looks, you shouldn’t have gotten a makeover and I can see under your skirt” he added with a sly smirk and she dropped her legs.
  • “Jerk” she said under her breath.
  • “Whatever” he replied.
  • “So are you going to skip today again?” he asked.
  • “Maybe, why are you asking?” she looked at him finally.
  • “You’ve missed a lot of tests and a lot of quizzes in all your classes. I’m surprised they haven’t failed you yet”.
  • “If only you knew” she replied with a smile of her own.
  • “Yeah I wish I did, but to be honest what happened to Clara?”
  • Danny almost dropped her phone, but she caught it before it hit the ground.
  • She hadn’t heard that name in a while. What had she been doing? How long had she been asleep? There was something she needed to tell Kieran.
  • “North, you’re kind of spacing out on me” he said waving his hands in front of her face.
  • “What was that?” she asked.
  • “I asked about Clara. Clara Wilder. Big boobs, tall, blonde slut” he explained and he would have gone on and on if Danny didn’t intervene.
  • “Yes I know. Enough of that” and her tone was one that she wasn’t playing around.
  • “So where is she?” she asked.
  • “She’s on vacation” she replied uneasy.
  • “That doesn’t sound like her though. To take vacation during school”.
  • “So now you know Clara too?” she asked.
  • “Yeah I do and I can see you’re replacing her with Veronica”.
  • “I am not” she replied.
  • As if summoned, Veronica walked in.
  • She walked towards her with a smile.
  • “Please excuse us Hunter” and she pulled Danny away from her seat and out the class.
  • “I had this amazing idea-“
  • “I need to find Kieran” she said cutting her off.
  • “Wow. Okay what happened that you want to find him? Have you forgotten the plan?” she asked still pulling her along.
  • “I haven’t forgotten the plan. Operation make Kieran want you, but this is important” she said coming to a halt and removing her hand. “I need to talk to him for just a little while” she pleaded.
  • “Fine, don’t come crying to me when it doesn’t work out” she said turning away with a huff folding her hands.
  • “It will Ronnie. Come on just follow me” she said waiting for her. Ronnie still stood where she was. “You can tell me what you wanted to tell me before I interrupted you’ she said holding her hand out.
  • “I was thinking of this for a while. Stephanie seems stressed lately so I thought we could help her cool off”.
  • “I’m not sure Stephanie is ready for another prank. She’s still pissed from that last one” she whispered.
  • “That’s rich Danny. You’re still scared of Stephanie” she laughed.
  • “I am not and I was never scared of the ice queen” she said getting defensive.
  • “You wouldn’t have done that prank if I told you it was Stephanie” she stated checking her nails.
  • “Well that was the old me. Stephanie hasn’t met the new me” she said proud of herself.
  • “I’m sure she’d be so scared” Ronnie said shivering.
  • “I don’t like that tone Ronnie” Danny said a frown forming on her face.
  • “What tone?” she asked feigning innocence.
  • “It’s mocking and I hear disbelief in there’.
  • “Danny I mean come on. I always give you a push before we do anything. You have to admit that……”
  • She didn’t get to finish that because Danny gave her an inhuman look.
  • “Then I have to change that, don’t I?” Danny asked.
  • “Calm down Danny. I was just pulling your legs. You know you’re bolder than that” she said taking some steps back.
  • “You didn’t pull my legs” she replied not understanding what she said. “Don’t tell me the idea you had. I’m doing things myself” and she stormed off.
  • Ronnie stayed rooted to the spot and she sighed. “This is going to be good” and she followed.
  • Danny made her way to the field and as always Kieran was there watching.
  • “It looks like he’s watching Stephanie, don’t you think” a voice whispered really sounding like Veronica. She tilted her head and Veronica was actually by her side.
  • “Why would you think that?” Danny asked.
  • She shrugged. “I don’t think, I know. Besides who else there does he know?”
  • “Maybe he’s just impressed by their beautiful art” she said refusing to believe that Stephanie was the girl Kieran actually liked.
  • “Yeah I’m pretty sure a guy like Kieran would want to watch people throwing themselves in the air” she said with enough sarcasm and rolling her eyes for effect.
  • “It can’t be, you really think he likes her” she said looking at the girl they were talking about standing at the top of the pyramid her hands in the air and then doing a toe touch and falling again. ‘Anyone one can do that. There’s nothing impressive about that’.
  • “So I’m waiting. What are you going to do?” Ronnie asked taking a side eye glance and folding her arms.
  • “I’m going to cool her off” she said and stormed off.
  • Ronnie smiled and turned to Kieran who was still watching. “He’s going to want to see this” she murmured.
  • Danny was angry. So angry that she didn’t know when she got the hose and sprayed the entire cheer team which destroyed the pyramid. The hose had a lot of pressure and it had them falling over each other. The pleasure she felt disappeared when she saw Stephanie’s eyes.
  • Sharp blue. Glowing through her white hair. On her hands and knees she looked like a predator.
  • “What did you do?!” she demanded getting on her feet.
  • “I-I…..” To be honest she didn’t know what she had done. What led her to do this?
  • “This time I’m going to……”
  • “Stephanie!” multiple voices yelled and both girls turned to the squad huddled round another girl who was clutching her leg.
  • Danny wasn’t human, but she knew legs don’t bend that way.
  • Stephanie turned back to her and her breath was all frosty. “You will pay for this” and she was advancing on her. Danny dropped the hose and looked to the bleachers. Kieran wasn’t there. Who would save her?
  • “Hey take it easy Valentine” Ronnie said getting in between them.
  • ‘Where did she go?’ she thought.
  • “Now you want to think before you do something that will get you in trouble” she said all smug her hands in her blazer pockets.
  • Stephanie took deep breath and Danny sighed relieved. Everyone’s eyes were on them.
  • Danny could barely blink before Stephanie moved and Ronnie was holding her bleeding nose.
  • “What the… How? I wasn’t meant to….”
  • “Ms. Valentine!”
  • All students turned to the Principal who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.
  • “What’s happening here?!”
  • “She attacked me!” Veronica yelled in pain. “Unprovoked” she added.
  • “Is that true?” she asked narrowing her eyes.
  • “No” she stated.
  • “Everyone saw it. She was going to attack Danny also. Right Danny?”
  • “Yes” she replied before she realized it.
  • “They made the entire cheer team fall and now one of mine is hurt” Stephanie said still looking at Ronnie weirdly.
  • “You can’t blame your mistakes on others. Detention and I’ll schedule you appointments with the guidance counselor. Come with me now” she said leaving no room for arguments.
  • Stephanie rolled her eyes. “This isn’t over you two” and she followed the principal.
  • Everyone was still looking at them and this time she didn’t feel comfortable.
  • “Will you take me to the nurse?” Ronnie asked with a smile.
  • “S-sure” she replied hesitantly.
  • She led her to the nurse’s office and left. She didn’t want to be around her right now. To be honest she didn’t want to be around anyone. She just walked around aimlessly. Luckily this area was secluded.
  • She just rest against the wall “What is going on?” she asked herself.
  • “That makes two of us” a voice said behind her.
  • She didn’t move to know it was Kieran beside her. Any other day she would like to be by his side, but now she didn’t want to.
  • “Go away Kieran”.
  • “I don’t feel like. I want to talk to you and you better give me answers”.
  • “Well I don’t want to talk to you” and she turned to walk away, but he held her wrist and she spun on her heels facing him.
  • “What has gotten into you?”
  • “Nothing has gotten into me! Why is everyone asking me that?” she asked freeing her hand roughly.
  • “Well they should. You weren’t like this. You skip class just to hang out with that girl, you show no respect, you break the rules, you pranked Stephanie for no reason, today you took it too far and you’ve forgotten about your actual friend”.
  • “I haven’t forgotten Clara” she denied outraged that Kieran would think that.
  • “You most certainly act like it. Did you forget that we’re meant to be searching for what attacked her and almost killed her?” he asked and looking into his eyes she could see his anger.
  • “Then why didn’t you tell me?” she asked.
  • “Do you hear yourself?” he asked with a smile but with more disbelief than amusement. “Friends don’t forget friends and I gave you a chance to prove yourself and you failed. And I told you before I don’t care what you do”.
  • “If you don’t care, then why are you here? Don’t answer that it’s because of Stephanie” she stated with a smirk and loved how that spiked his fire.
  • “What has Stephanie got to do with this?” he asked trying to remain calm.
  • “She has everything to do with this. Its girls like her you like, isn’t it? Cold, badass, they don’t care about anything”.
  • “Okay, I have no idea what you’re saying, but what I’m saying is that you don’t know what you’re getting into. You aren’t ready for the human world and also not ready to be a supernatural” he stated.
  • “And you would know how?” Danny asked.
  • “You are being so difficult” he said clenching his fists.
  • “If you’re done, you can leave. I’m done listening to you”.
  • “What has gotten into you honestly?” he asked observing her from head to toe.
  • “Nothing. This is the real me” her pupils dilating.
  • “It’s that girl isn’t it?” Kieran asked.
  • “Ronnie has nothing to do with it. And why do you care by the way? You don’t like girls like me. Ronnie is actually a friend. She’s there for me and cares, you don’t. You don’t even care about Clara or anybody but yourself and the ice queen”.
  • “Okay!” he snapped. “You seriously need to stop talking or else….”
  • “Or else what? You’re going to burn me? Or tell Stephanie to come freeze me?”
  • “That mouth is going to put you in trouble one day” he whispered.
  • “I’m looking forward to it. I also think it’ll get me in trouble with your girlfriend” she teased.
  • Kieran was in front of her and she was against the wall his arm trapping her.
  • “You’ve been talking about Stephanie awfully a lot. You jealous of her or something?” he teased his face coming closer.
  • “What does she have for me to be jealous of?” Danny asked rolling her eyes.
  • When she made contact with him again his eyes were gold. She gulped unconsciously.
  • “First off she’s pretty, stronger than you, has more knowledge about where she comes from. Badass like you call it and are you forgetting she’s a princess?”
  • “That doesn’t faze me” she said her voice not wavering.
  • “This isn’t about Stephanie, is it? Do you like me or something Daniella?”
  • “You wish” she replied quickly.
  • “Or you’re the one wishing I should like you back” he taunted.
  • “Danny, there you are!” Ronnie said running towards her. A bandage across her nose and holding a bloody handkerchief. “I’ve been looking all over the school for you”.
  • Luckily she and Kieran had already separated and he was watching silently.
  • “Well you found me” she stated not appreciating her company right now.
  • She turned to Kieran.
  • “Hi, my name is Veronica Wilson. You must be Kieran” she said holding her hand out.
  • Kieran didn’t take it.
  • “Well that’s rude” she said not bothering to hide it.
  • “Why don’t we just go Ronnie” she said with a hand rubbing her forehead. “I’m done with school for the day”.
  • “I never knew you were so hardheaded. Did you listen to a word I said?” he asked.
  • “No” she replied.
  • “Don’t talk to her like that” Ronnie said jumping at the chance to protect her friend.
  • “This doesn’t concern you” he said looking Ronnie in the eye.
  • “Well I’m here so it concerns me. You are not very nice” she said her green eyes glinting.
  • “You are kind of influence aren’t you?” he asked.
  • “What is that supposed to mean?” Danny cut in.
  • Kieran just shrugged.
  • “Let’s get out of here Danny!” Ronnie said pulling her away.
  • Kieran sighed and watched them go.
  • “How could Kieran say that? That you’re an influence on me? Unbelievable! I do everything with my own mind”.
  • “That doesn’t matter. What does that guy know? He’s lucky he has a pretty face” she said letting go of Danny and pacing.
  • “Don’t worry about it. Let’s just go” she said trying to pull her away, but she recoiled.
  • “He’ll pay for this” she whispered with an inhuman look in her eyes.
  • “Come on V, take it easy on the pranks. I think we went too far today” she whispered.
  • “You’re siding with him now?!” and she was giving her evil eyes.
  • “No look I’m just saying someone got hurt today and you say no one gets hurts in this type of things” Danny said. She didn’t want to remember today. The looks, the thoughts and that girl that got hurt.
  • “Okay, I hear what you’re saying’ that seemed to make her calm down.
  • “Let’s just go okay. I need fresh air” and the two of them made their way out of the building to the back and to her motorcycle.
  • “Mall again?” Ronnie asked.
  • “Yeah” she replied putting the helmet on.
  • Soon they were at the mall going through shops. Her parents never gave her money so she didn’t know how it worked. Ronnie seemed to know because she said she wanted to buy something. Danny just followed her to the jewelry store.
  • “So you want to try jewelry?” she asked looking at the displays.
  • “Yes” she replied and they walked up to a man behind the glass counter. “I would like to buy a ring” she said.
  • Danny didn’t care really. She would really like to be someplace else, but she couldn’t leave. She was meant to be with her friend. On a normal day Ronnie could make the thoughts from her head disappear, but it wasn’t working.
  • The looks were still haunting her and what Kieran said danced around her mind. Was Ronnie really that much of an influence on her? No she couldn’t believe it. Ronnie in no way had ever influenced her decisions. It was all her.
  • She heard a tiny clank. She turned and Ronnie had taken off her ring to test others the man had got out for her. Ronnie had said it was a gift and she never let her go close to it or even touch it. Now it was just there on the glass and she wasn’t looking.
  • She took it. ‘Just a little look’.
  • She looked down at the big ring in her eyes. It had a big transparent stone or was it a ball. She didn’t know much about it. She took a closer look and it glowed and burnt her palms.
  • It fell from her hand immediately onto the floor.
  • “What the fuck Danny?!” Ronnie yelled.
  • “I’m sorry Ronnie. I don’t know what happened” she said trying to pick it up, but she was faster.
  • “Of course you don’t!” she yelled cradling the ring. From what she could see it had cracked a little and she was very angry. All the time she had known Ronnie, she had never seen her so upset. Not even what happened this morning had her in this mood.
  • It was a gift and Danny knew she would be upset too if it got damaged.
  • “I’m really sorry Ronnie, but something is definitely wrong with that ring”.
  • “Yes you ruined it!” she yelled.
  • “That’s not what-“
  • She didn’t get to finish because Ronnie just turned around and walked out. Danny stood there for some time just trying to understand that Ronnie just left her in a jewelry shop. She followed her quickly. She was still in sight which was good.
  • She just couldn’t understand what she was so upset about though. It was a ring which could be easily fixed.
  • The problem was why did a normal ring burn her? She didn’t know much, but she knew human jewelry didn’t burn or any piece of jewelry for that matter. So that meant there was nothing human about that ring. That sensation though, she had felt it before.
  • It was the same burning she had when Clara’s staff touched her. Now she needed to see that ring again. Looking up, she didn’t see the blonde anymore.
  • Ronnie didn’t have any energy for her to trace and she really couldn’t hear her thoughts anymore which was really weird. But that ring should have some sort of energy on it. She was getting to that, when something cold made contact with her wrist.
  • Looking up it was that man in uniform. Nothing good was going to come of this.
  • She would have fought him. He was on the chubby side so she could easily overpower him, but her parents warned her that humans must never find out about the supernatural world.
  • She followed him easily to his office and she sat down there with her wrists cuffed. Why was she being held anyway? Was it bad to skip school?
  • The man looked at her. “You get one phone call”.
  • She sighed. She only had one person to call that would actually come get her, and no it wasn’t Veronica.
  • After her phone call she watched the officer eat donuts for hours and that was when her dad walked in. She smiled because he would go easy on her. But then it disappeared when she saw her mother. This wasn’t going to end good for her.
  • She was taken away by her parents. She made sure to keep her mouth shut. Her mum’s energy was all over the place and she was ready to blow up, but she didn’t want that. She could send her to space if she wasn’t careful.
  • When they got home, she tried to make a hasty retreat up the stairs to her room.
  • “Don’t think about it!” her mother warned.
  • She turned around slowly with a small smile.
  • “I know what you’re going to say, but I can explain” she tried to soothe them.
  • “You can’t Daniella. Because if you could you’d have heard me when I was yelling you’re going to home world!”
  • “What?!” she gasped. “You can’t….”
  • “I can Daniella and you will be quiet! You said we wanted you to be human, right? We thought earth would be safe for you, but we were wrong. You said that you wanted to control your powers, be more supernatural? Well you can concentrate on that because you are going to Tempa.
