Chapter 5 Little Secret Turns Ashes 4

  • MY MR GENTLY STOOD UP while holding a glass filled with liquor from his bottle and said "fellows, I think my wife has done a great thing for us all. And I don't think we should turn down the offer". I think he continued, "We should all go and feed ourselves on this good meal she has prepared for us". He pecks his wife and whisper to her "well done. I never expected this. I really appreciate you. I love you". From my room, I watched and listen to all that took the centre of our sitting room.
  • The next day he saw where I kept his mail. Emmy! Emmy! He shouted my name, using his authority voice whenever he wants to call for my service. Immediately, I left the book I was reading, and hurriedly fell at his feet like Hittites slave. "When did the post man bring these"? Afraid looking his face, I decided to say nothing. He shovels the letters and said finally. For thirty minutes, he was busy reading every of the mail. (That was after he sent me away, back to my room).
  • I implanted myself in his mind to know exactly what he is thinking after reading the mail, I couldn't. The picture was blank in my head. Later in the day, I heard the two adults arguing. My Mr said "your son is very stubborn, so I am not going to send him there". My Mrs, who agrees with him on one that I am stubborn boy, disagrees on the other hand, that I should be enrol in Hill Crest Boarding School at Jos. She said "my husband, our son deserve to go there. He is brilliant and intelligent despite he is a stubborn son".
  • I know you hate that. I know you are disciplinarian, and want the same from him. However, my husband you must understand he is a kid. "A kid, he exclaimed.” What kind of kid does disobey his father"? "I know that" she said. But....but! What? He roars. "For a boy who...." he sighed. I felt cold at which my Mr doubted my capacity to excel. He believes I am too wild for him to control because I disagree with logically on certain belief he has. Even though I am not able to express myself before him, fearing his tiger eyes whenever he speaks.
  • I know within me that my Mr and I are not in the same pedestrian. We are too human beings that breed from two different planets less than one Galaxy. My Mr roars and believes everything falling from his, remain the ultimate and ground rule for life to breathe. But I in the other hand don't see life from his owns perceptive and reason. Or perhaps, my perception about life generally does not abide with his owns rationale. Most of the books, my Mr abandoned to read, that has spider web net all over it. I have read them.
  • They both argue for fifteen minutes before my Mrs went to the kitchen to prepare supper for the family. I pretended not to have listened to all the conversation they both have. An hour later my Mr calls on my Mrs in a mild voice to their bed room. This time, they spoke in silence that even rats can't hear what they conversed. The only thing, I heard was the sound of the door after my Mrs came out from their bed adjusting herself. I asked myself, this is unusual of her. She hardly behaves this manner.
  • Two hours later, she serves the family meal without saying a word till we went to bed. I woke up the next day to ask her what went wrong. She refuses to anything to me. I was worried about the quietness after the previous night of the quarrel that ensued between my Mr and Mrs. I was kept in the dark for the two weeks. Whenever, I try to exhume the corpse of fourteenth nights ago, the reply I get is silence. Nobody is saying anything. Everything is normal. I wonder whether that fifteenth minutes ago she enters their bedroom, something went wrong.
