Chapter 25

  • I turn away from Theo when I want to hit him again, and direct all my anger at the boots hanging on the shelf, which end up on the floor, but it is the beginning of much more, because what follows is the nearby decorations, and anything of a fragile material that makes a loud noise as it hits the ground and breaks, and Theo's sobs seem to be the background music for this.
  • I try to stay as far away from Theo as possible, I pull over all the decorations that are on the walls that we have hung for Christmas.
  • When I get to the tree, I don't care if it's bigger than me, I kick it, punch it, pull over as much as I can until many of its ornaments fall to the ground and it threatens to fall on me. I don't mind, because it seems like, with every punch I take, something drains out of me, yet there is not a moment when it ends.
