Chapter 8: Piercing Spike Formation

  • Aledos woke up and looked around, “where am I?” He asked out loud as he tried to stand up, which brought on a wave of dizziness to him. He touched his head and felt the cloth bandage. He began to recall what happened to him.
  • He sighed as he glanced outside. “It’s already evening, I wonder where Kalen went to.
  • During the construction of their make-shift residence, they placed rocks to form a cave before their encounter with the exobeast. He went out of the tent to see his friend sitting beside the fire roasting some meat.
  • “Looks who is wake? Bro, how’s your head?” Kalen asked as he casually munched on his meat.
  • “I am not sure to be honest. I still feeling little dizzy though.” Aledos replied as he supported his head with his palm.
  • “Man, you are tough as hell. Come and eat some roasted meat. While you were sleeping, I killed an antelope. It is so good, come and eat,” Kalen said with a smile.
  • “Alright,” Aledos replied as he moved forward. He felt the wave of hunger as he smelled the meat. He began eating voraciously, as the tension in the air lighten up.
  • “Kalen,” Aledos asked?
  • “Yes?”
  • “Do you think that we can kill these exobeasts? I mean that red and black sabretooth almost killed us,” Aledos said as he glanced at his friend to see his expression.
  • “Don’t worry, I know we can kill these exobeasts. Don’t beat yourself up on one defeat. We will plan and go hunt that bastard tomorrow.”
  • “I believe he is the king within this territory. It got to be around here somewhere waiting. Cheer up, because we are going to kick its ass tomorrow and pass this training. Get some rest.”
  • “Thanks brother. I will get some rest. Wake me up if anything arises.” Aledos left for the tent.
  • Aledos sighed on the way, “why did I even ask him? That guy will be remaining the same forever, being confident. I don’t know if he is being optimistic or if he is scared.” That short fight with the sabretooth left him with goosebumps.
  • Kalen sat on the smooth rock near the campfire watching the darkening sky, he was in deep thought. “Mom, Dad, I am going to kill this sabretooth. I will make sure Aledos and me clear this training and I become the best squire this batch. I promise you that. Once I become strong, I am going to make that Gauls pay, I will kill them in a million different ways avenging you both.”
  • He knew that he was something overly optimistic, but it helped build his confidence. He knew it help the legendary martial arts master, Bruce Lee. He once said, ‘If you have faith in yourself, then all of these worries and anxieties will dissipate.'
  • Kalen laughed into the night. Letting all his worries, fears and anxieties dissipate away.
  • “I will improvise to make your situation better.” Kalen knew that he could improvise on difficult situations to be able make them work.
  • He stood up and started gathering wood. He remembered a defense structure that the army of Camelot used in their battles against the Gaul military raids and invasions.
  • Kalen planned to create imitation using the wood. The piercing spike formation used by the Camelot military. They would use the exotic blue star metal to shape into lances or spears as the main materiel. These lances would be connected with exotic blue star wires.
  • The exotic blue star metal allows it to be more flexible. The knights would stand the spears up and then tie a rope across the formation. When the opposing force arrives under them, the knights would drag the spears down on to them.
  • They would use a durable rope to keep it in place, while a knight would be station away from the formation with a sniper rifle. His job would get keep an eye on the rope. When the Gauls offensive proves too great, the knight commander of that Camelot military division will order a retreat.
  • The knights would retreat past the formation of spears that is hidden within the ground. Once the knights are past the trap, the sniper would fire a shot at the rope releasing the trap.
  • Hell is release on the Gaul’s soldiers. The spears are quickly released with a huge force and momentum that any soldier caught within the trap will face immediate death., The exotic blue star spears can impale any soldier’s armor easily.
  • The elite Camelot military would not use this formation as much, because they use it as their trump card. Gaul soldiers gamble their lives in battler worried if the formation would be used.
  • The formation can be beaten, because this is not the age of formations. It is the age for exotics and technology.
  • Battles in this era are mostly revolve around who has the better tech for their armies. Having formations and other add-ons are a plus, but they won’t work often. If the formations are used in conjunction with high-grade tech, it can become so deadly for any army. There are some pro and cons to them.
  • When the piercing spike formation is used in defensive battles, Camelot military will always emerge victorious. They would use that momentum to turn the tide of the battle into their favor.
  • The formation is only used in defensive battles as it works best if the army is on the defense. The formation works well with the high-tech the country has.
  • “I know I don’t have access to any of the materiel that is used in the formation, but I know I can make do with what we have. Red and Black Sabretooth, you better be ready to face your death.” Kalen laughed as he thought of his plan.
  • He selected several sticks that had pointy points. He used his dagger to sharpen their edge and slowly arranged the formation.
  • He could only get about ten wooden spears made with the time he had. He quickly dug them into the ground. He connected them using some makeshift rope from the vines near some trees.
  • The vine as thick as hell for growing near this rock formation. He used the vine to drag the formation down into the ground. He used giant leaves to cover the formation so that was hidden.
  • After he got everything set up, he saw it was late into the night. He went into the tent to get some sleep. He made sure to cover the entrance with a rock.
  • He found Aledos sleeping peacefully, he laughed softly see his friend like this. He knew that his friend would not sleep like this unless he knew that someone, he trusted had watching his back.
  • Controlling your sleep was a fundamental military training technique that every knight learned how to do.
  • “Sleep well, my brother. Wake up strong and fresh, because we are going to hunt.” Kalen cleared some space to allow himself to sleep.
