Chapter 12 Make You Proud
- It was easy as anything getting to Campamento. Paula didn't lock the till up and while she was doing some old biddy's pedicure I snuck ten euros and loose change out. I decided to be very generous and not take any more because there wasn't a lot of money to start with. Pickings weren't slim, they were anorexic.
- I left without saying anything, went back up to the flat to look pretty, then nipped out to buy cigarettes and energy drinks and grab a taxi.
- My grandparents' house in Campamento wasn't even a proper house. They were living in a block of flats overrun by okupas. Single mothers smoked roll-ups while pretending to tend to their toddlers, old ladies hung the washing out of their windows, and two or three gangly boys on bikes whistled at me as I strolled through the front entrance. That didn't phase me either. It was flattering to receive some male attention after all this time.
