Chapter 20

• Annessa’s brother David just left after they had dinner. On some weekends, he usually visited them to have a meal with them. Unlike the usual, she tried her best to smile and join the conversation from time to time since these kind of meals were special to them. But probably her family noticed that she was quieter tonight. Luckily, they didn’t make any comments. She was thankful for having such understanding parents and sibling. She was actually worried about Eric. She had sent him a lot of messages already but he hadn’t replied to any of them.
• “Weren’t you and your friends supposed to go to your weekend getaway with Eric and his family today?” Her father asked when he saw her sitting on the wooden chair facing their garden.
• She nipped her lower lip. What will she say? Eric asked her parents’ permission to take her with him and they said yes. The problem was, she couldn’t contact him. She was not even sure if he left with his family without her and her friends. Jill and Heidi hadn’t heard from him too. Her dad sat opposite from her. He was bringing his usual nightcap, bourbon. He put the glass on the table and leaned forward to look at her intently.
