Chapter 30

  • It would take me less than ten minutes to reach to the city. I texted Ray and gave him the news. He had told me where to find him. I had searched for the directions using Google maps and memorized it in my head. Finally, I was here in the city. I took my suitcase from the boot and started walking towards the stage where Ray worked. The city was crowded with people who did not care about others. They were moving up and down, knocking each other on the shoulders. It was hard for me to move fast with my high heel and my luggage. I walked slowly trying not to miss the directions. Finally, I saw the vehicles where Ray had said he worked. He had described their color to me, thus it was easy to identify them. They were decorated colorfully, not like the ones in our town, which were white. These vehicles did not have a yellow strip as stipulated. I didn’t know why.
  • I reached the stage and called Ray. He told me to wait for him since he had been held up in traffic jam. I counter checked the vehicles and was satisfied that this was indeed the place he had told me to meet him. The touts came running to me. They wanted to help in with my luggage. They started arguing amongst themselves on which vehicle I would board. I had a hard time trying to stop them from taking my luggage to any of their vehicles.
  • Ray had taken longer than I thought. My legs were arching. The height of my shoe heels were making me uncomfortable. I kept lifting one leg at a time. I kept walking a bit to relieve my legs from hurt. The touts would come and tease me ones in a while. Others would come, smoking and try to ask me out. They would touch my hair and say how beautiful it was.
