- Getting my edge back was easier said than done. I didn't see Yunai until that Saturday, and even though I tried to wrap my father around my finger on Thursday and Friday asking if he wanted me to do anything for him, he was in a foul mood.
- "You think money falls from trees," he bellowed the third time I asked. "No one wants anything right now with all the police here, Kiara, so no, I don't need you to do me any goddamn favors. Just keep the house clean and do things that a normal girl your age should be doing."
- Normal things! I had bigger fish to fry. Didn't he understand that, what with both of us being entrepreneurs? He'd been stealing wallets and handbags at my age to put food on the table, and by several strokes of luck had become a drug lord by the time my brother Darren was born. Kilos had become tons, and he certainly hadn't got to where he was today by doing 'normal things'.
