Chapter 22 I'm Not Going To Pass The Crown To Her I

  • During the week I was busy with other things, like homeschooling, especially improving foreign languages. The teachers came from the countries of origin of the languages taught. No one residing in Avalon was hired to teach me. I really enjoyed this part of foreign languages and my pronunciations were perfect. In some I even managed to do the accents and was always highly praised by the teachers. I really wanted to know where my future husband came from and the language he spoke, so that I could study it with more dedication. But that was kept under lock and key.
  • On Thursday afternoon I went to the Library in my spare time. By herself. I trusted Mia, she was my best and only friend. But there were things about the realm of Avalon I needed to know for myself. And one of them was finding something about my aunt, Emy Beaumont. The castle library was not very large. As soon as the main door was opened, two large round pillars were seen, one next to the other, in dark wood, which spread out in the same way at the top, like carvings in the ceiling. The floor was extremely shiny and glossy wood and made my shoes slip if I wasn't careful with the way I walked. But as soon as this part was passed, there was a giant orange red carpet, thin, comfortable and of extreme quality, which covered much of the environment. The books were neatly arranged on shelves of the same color wood, which matched the walls in the same dark brown. Two pendant chandeliers with bright lights, but imitating lit candles, gave a touch of comfort and coziness. A kind of imitation terrestrial globe, but in gold, used as an ornament, was in the middle of the rug. There was a large table for research, with few chairs and on top of them two lamps that lightened very well. Two antique wooden armchairs sat one against each pillar, facing inside. There was also a fireplace, which could be lit on cold days. And four well-lit corridors housed Avalon's most important books. Everything I needed and it was written in a book would be there. No... There were no computers for research. Did I mention that my father was extremely anti-technology and clinging to medieval times? A semicircle staircase led to the mezzanine. There were rare books that could not be handled by anyone, only royalty. The Beaumont story was there, all written down, from the beginning of our generation. I went upstairs and started looking for something about my aunt. But there was so much that I didn't even know where to start. I went among the shelves, running my fingers one by one, reading the titles and seeing what could attract and be useful to me.
  • I heard the Library door open and I was startled, instinctively stepping back a little. Voices entered the environment. And they spoke low. I knew someone was there, but I couldn't hear exactly what they were saying. I walked slowly and noiselessly forward a little and saw my father below…and Beatrice. What was my father doing with that woman in the library at that time of the afternoon? Shouldn't he be in his office, dispatching documents, talking on the phone with great leaders from other countries... Or simply thinking about how to feed the hungry people of the Broken Crown?
