Chapter 11

  • Three days had passed since she had had the best night of her entire life. Suddenly, memories came into her head, at the most unexpected moments, she was unable to contain them. She had not told anyone about that night, for obvious reasons, and more than one person had approached her to ask her with concern about the marks on her neck, she had only told them not to worry.
  • Was there any reason to do so?, she wondered mentally, finishing organizing a pile of papers that her boss had left her; she worked for a rather important company in New York, a rather rich company, although, in her opinion, the pay was too mediocre, and the treatment of the employees was even worse; from embarrassments, public humiliations, to harassment that each of the secretaries of the place had to endure, including her. There had been more than one occasion when her boss had rubbed her the wrong way. Resigned, the only thing she could do was to keep silent, although, on reflection, she felt too angry about it. In her mind revived the memories, the proposals, the stupid "business" dinners she had been forced to accept, just to prolong her stay in that company.
  • Although she didn't think she was capable of doing much better. In fact, her boss always told her that she had been too lucky to work in a company like that without being a university graduate or even qualified for the position. More than once, she had wanted to answer him and tell him that you didn't need to be a university graduate to work as a secretary, but she had forced herself to keep quiet, telling absolutely nothing.
