Chapter 53- Helplessness

• After dinner, Carl Black came out of the restaurant, holding Lisa's hand. They got in the car and sat down. He looked at her and asked softly, "Are you feeling better?"
• She only nodded in response, looking at her fingers on her lap. He felt heartache to see her so quiet. He didn't know how to cheer her up. When he thought how helpless she might have been feeling when Daniel Brooke mistreated her, his blood boiled in anger. His grip around the steering wheel tightened. At that moment, he wanted to beat Daniel Brooke to death. He closed his eyes and gritted his teeth to endure the brewing anger inside him. After a while, he opened his eyes and started the engine.
• Lisa leaned back on the seat, closing her eyes. She was exhausted. She wanted to go home as soon as possible. The journey was very quiet. No one opened their mouths.
