Chapter 8 Do It Again

  • When He Yanfeng walked past Tang Xuchun, she smelled his familiar fragrance of fresh cedar.
  • The way he moved about domineeringly made her very soul tremble!
  • Turning around to follow him, Tang Xuchun finally understood what it felt like to be shaken to the core.
  • What a small world. This plot twist is too uncanny!
  • It can’t be. Maybe it’s a misunderstanding, or he’s just someone who looks like the hotel employee. There has to be a reasonable explanation for this.
  • Tang Xuchun was so desperate that she tried to find a way to comfort herself, even if it meant that she had to resort to wishful thinking.
  • She was oblivious to the fact that those higher-ups’ perception of her had changed for the better because she had personally been appointed by He Yanfeng to do translation work for him.
  • One of them asked with anxiety, “An intern doing translation? What kind of translation experience does she have? We have to get someone more experienced to help her out.”
  • “But he only asked for her. It’s better to not challenge his decision. Who’s going to take responsibility if he is mad at us for getting him another translator?” answered someone else.
  • “Agreed. This new president is rather hard to read. We wouldn’t want to offend him - it might cost us our jobs,” yet another person spoke up.
  • Sounding serious, they were all wary of the new man in power.
  • Tang Xuchun’s mind went blank. All she could think of were two words. New president.
  • Her usually rosy cheeks had gone as white as chalk by now.
  • “Excuse me, may I know who that man is?”
  • “He’s our new president here at Yiyao Corporation. It’s his first day today. You’re lucky to have encountered him.”
  • Tang Xuchun knew that she was doomed when she heard that.
  • She forced a dry laugh and her pretty eyes brimmed with tears.
  • Lucky? This is not a blessing, but a curse!
  • I haven’t even familiarized myself with my job as an intern, and now I’m being escorted into the president’s office by all these senior managers.
  • Click. The heavy rosewood door was closed gently, leaving Tang Xuchun alone with the president in his office.
  • She looked at He Yanfeng, completely disoriented.
  • Painted in a tasteful grayish-green tone, the office gave off a stylish yet sophisticated feeling. As she stepped into it, it felt rather serene and charming at the same time.
  • Located on the top floor, the view from this office was breathtaking. With curtains pulled to the sides, the huge windows allowed ample sunlight to brighten the room. The entire space had an otherworldly feel to it.
  • Glass... These god-forsaken large glass windows again!
  • Tang Xuchun forcefully convinced herself that it must be another coincidence.
  • “Come here.” He Yansheng’s deep tone sounded frigid and harsh. It snapped her out of her trance and back to reality.
  • She shivered involuntarily and turned her eyes toward the source of the voice.
  • Behind a huge rosewood desk, He Yanfeng sat leisurely in an office chair with his legs crossed.
  • He looked arrogant and unapproachable. He sat there like a king looking down at his subject.
  • His aura was so fearsome that Tang Xuchun felt she was going to pass out.
  • Following his order, she approached the desk warily.
  • Through the windows, rays of strong sunlight behind He Yanfeng sculpted his features, making them even more angular and prominent than usual as he sat languidly on his chair. His intense gaze and sharply arched eyebrows didn’t render him more amiable to the timid and fearful young woman in front of him.
  • “Pre-President... wh-what kind of document do you need me t-to translate?” Tang Xuchun stammered. She was only a newbie and this was her first day of work! But He Yanfeng had brought her directly into the president’s office. She was literally on the verge of breaking down.
  • Tang Xuchun’s heart was in her mouth. She was not used to this awkward version of herself as was usually much more easygoing and optimistic. Unfortunately, she failed to be her usual happy-go-lucky self in He Yanfeng’s presence.
  • Tang Xuchun tried to process all the possible scenarios. Is he the man from the other night? If he is, how should I avoid him? I’m a married woman, after all.
  • I’m going nuts!
  • He Yanfeng studied her carefully. She looks like she’s walking on eggshells.
  • Tang Xuchun’s question went unanswered and the tension in the room heightened.
  • Anxiety was written all over her face as she habitually bit her tender lower lip. Her lush eyelashes quivered like tiny brushes. She looked like a frightened fawn.
  • This prolonged silence was killing her inside. Her breathing was uneven and her heart pounded madly.
  • Not to mention He Yanfeng’s penetrating gaze which was fixated on her. He didn’t say a word but kept his laser-beam eyes on her, increasing the pressure she felt in her system.
  • This is too much! Her heart racing, Tang Xuchun felt like she was going to faint.
  • Left with no other option, Tang Xuchun opened her mouth to break the silence, only to be stopped by a banknote that had suddenly appeared in He Yanfeng’s hand.
  • Fifty!
  • Tang Xuchun was startled and confused.
  • What’s that for?
  • He Yanfeng held the banknote with two slender fingers, then flicked it onto the desk.
  • After that, he stood up.
  • Bewildered by his actions, Tang Xuchun remained motionless as she spoke softly, “Am I... not here to translate?”
  • His slow advance toward her made her chest tighten up. She was having difficulty breathing at this point.
  • “Ms. Tang, have you forgotten? You said you’ll pay for my services. Instead, you only left me fifty for one whole night of service. Who do you think I am?” He Yanfeng’s gaze was so intense that Tang Xuchun could see her whole world crumbling before her eyes.
  • Lord have mercy! I’m done for.
  • I really slept with the top guy in my new company? Ah, this is truly the end for me!
  • With a wry smile, Tang Xuchun played the innocent card, “I’m confused, Mr. President. Is there some kind of misunderstanding? I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
  • Right! Deny it like my life depends on it!
  • “First, you leeched off me. Now, you try to deny it.” He Yanfeng approached her, close enough for Tang Xuchun to take a whiff of his subtle cedar scent again.
  • He placed a finger under her chin and lifted it with a slight force.
  • Prompted to look up directly at him, Tang Xuchun wanted to back away, but her legs had weakened so much that she couldn’t move at all.
  • “If that didn’t ring a bell, then we should act out what happened the other night to help you remember. This place is similar to that hotel room anyway,” He Yanfeng teased. His enigmatic voice and wicked eyes took the implication to another level.
  • Tang Xuchun felt blood draining from her face.
  • Mouth agape, she stopped breathing altogether for a moment.
  • He Yanfeng let go of her chin, then put his arms around her waist intimately.
  • Shell-shocked, Tang Xuchun’s face turned deathly pale as she was pushed over the edge.
  • B*stard! You asked for this!
  • “You pervert!” Tang Xuchun shouted and slapped his hand away before hitting him with the large folder in her hands.
  • Then, she quickly turned to escape.
  • “Don’t you dare run away, unless you want to ruin your internship and not graduate on time,” He Yanfeng casually threatened her.
  • Tang Xuchun abruptly stopped in her tracks.
  • The internship was essential to the completion of her course. Without the company’s acknowledgement, all her previous hard work in university would be in vain.
  • Gritting her teeth, Tang Xuchun turned and forced a smile onto her face, “Mr. President... I apologize. I didn’t mean to do that.” Despite her eagerness to skin He Yanfeng alive, she had to butter him up right now. She couldn’t afford to upset a man of his status and power.
  • “Though I really don’t understand what you mean by ‘the other night’, I’ve never seen you before. I swear!” Tang Xuchun decided to lie to the bitter end to save herself.
  • Eyebrows furrowed, her big bright eyes shimmered with innocence and sincerity. Her plump, fair cheeks also made her seem cute and harmless.
  • Tang Xuchun tried her hardest to act like the victim as she clasped her hands together.
  • As long as I don’t admit to it, he has no other evidence with which to accuse me.
  • But Tang Xuchun truly wished she could take that money back. It was the last of her cash!
  • He Yanfeng knew she was lying. Still, as he looked at her innocent and earnest expression he felt powerless to reject her endearing act.
  • “Maybe you blacked out and completely forgot everything. It’s fine. I can help jog your memory, Ms. Tang.” He Yanfeng put his hand around her waist again as he spoke.
  • Then he yanked her in toward him, pressing her soft body up close against his.
