Chapter 15 The Truth Revealed

  • I waited until Lucian left before I came out of my blanket. Although it had only been two days, I had somehow grown to like the place. I liked being around Jack and pretending to be Lucian’s girlfriend.
  • Sadly, all good things would have to come to an end.
  • We no longer had to continue pretending, and I had to snap out of it.
  • I was deep in thought for a long while before I heard footsteps outside my room again. Lucian came back after dinner.
  • Turning to my side, I forced myself to fall asleep, but my ears were unusually sharp that evening.
  • I heard Lucian walk into the bathroom and the sound of showering after that. Before long, he walked out of the bathroom and lay beside me. Neither of us spoke a word, but we could hear each other breathing.
  • After a while, I opened my eyes and asked in a hoarse voice, “Has Grandpa gone to sleep?”
  • “Yup.”
  • Then, I got out of bed and went for my suitcase.
  • “What are you doing?” Lucian asked after sitting up in surprise.
  • I did not turn to look at him; I just calmly opened the door and replied, “I’m going to sleep in the guest room.”
  • Since our relationship was about to end anyway, there was no reason for us to stay together for another night.
  • I left my room and was about to go to the guest room when Jack walked out of his room with a yawn.
  • “Why aren’t you sleeping, Jennifer? And what’s up with the suitcase?” Jack was puzzled at first before he widened his eyes. “Is this because of Lucian?”
  • I quickly shook my head and lied, “No! It’s just that I had some trouble at work. I wanted to be alone.”
  • Jack was obviously unconvinced, so he rushed into the room and yelled at Lucian.
  • Then, I smiled bitterly and walked into the guest room.
  • Jack scolded Lucian for a long time the night before, which was why he skipped breakfast and went straight to work that morning.
  • During breakfast, Jack uttered to me, “My flight is later in the afternoon. If Lucian ever does you wrong again, you call me.”
  • “Okay!” I responded happily, but I could not be sadder on the inside. There would not be a next time.
  • After breakfast, Jack asked me to take him for a walk. It was until we reached the mall that I found out that he was trying to get me something.
  • Jack did not mind spending his money on the gift, but I did not want it. In the end, I would have to give it back to Lucian, who would probably gift it to Yvette.
  • I did not want to waste Jack’s money and effort.
  • Seeing how I was uninterested in the item that he chose, Jack then took me to a jewelry store on the tenth floor. The items there were more expensive, so I continued to reject his kindness. In the end, Jack showed me a pendant with blue diamonds before I quickly excused myself and headed to the restroom.
  • I dragged my feet on the way because of how guilty I felt. Jack treated me like I was his granddaughter-in-law, but all I ever did was lie to him.
  • Suddenly, I saw two familiar faces at a counter just ahead of me. When I got closer, I realized they were Shannon and Howard.
  • It was impressive to see Howard getting a necklace for Shannon even when his leg was still in a plaster cast.
  • “This necklace looks wonderful on you, Shannon. It matches your beauty.” Howard placed a necklace around Shannon’s neck as he continued to sweet talk the woman.
  • However, Shannon was not happy with the necklace, so she removed it. “You got a million from that b*tch, and this trash is all you’re getting me? I want a pearl necklace!”
  • Furious, I gritted my teeth as I walked over to Shannon and gave her a good slap.
  • Shannon was stunned by the attack at first, but her eyes reddened with anger when she noticed that it was me. She tried to jump on me, but Howard stopped her and whispered to her, “She’s not worth it, Shannon. Lucian’s got her back, so we can’t afford to mess with her.”
  • Shannon did not care about that. She pushed Howard away and sneered at me, “So Lucian and you are a thing?”
  • I knew that she heard the conversation between Lucian and me, but I took my phone out and pretended to be calm. “Do you want me to call him over?”
  • Howard panicked, so he quickly limped to pull Shannon away from me. Clearly still pissed off, Shannon turned back to glare murderously at me.
  • When I got back to Jack from the restroom, I noticed how red his face was. It was like he had just fought with someone.
  • I was puzzled because Jack rarely fought with anyone. He was a respectable man, and not many could withstand his rage.
  • Even so, his hand trembled with anger as he spoke on the phone.
  • “Tell me what happened between you and Jennifer. Were both of you working together to fool me?”
  • My heart skipped a beat when Jack roared. It turned out that he was furious because he had discovered the truth.
  • Jack had always been kind to me. He would be heartbroken if he knew that I lied to him.
  • I had no idea what Lucian uttered over the phone, but Jack shouted fiercely in response, “It doesn’t matter how I found out! Now tell me if it’s true or not!”
  • After some questioning, Jack smashed the phone violently on the spot.
  • I wanted to comfort Jack at the moment, but my phone suddenly rang.
  • Lucian roared at me over the phone, “Were you the one who told Grandpa about us?”
  • “No, it wasn’t me!” Lucian scared the wits out of me. If he were around, he probably would have eaten me alive.
  • Naturally, Lucian was unconvinced, so he continued to yell at me. Displeased with his attitude, I wanted to yell back at him, but my face turned pale when I looked at Jack.
  • The elderly man seemed to be in pain as he breathed heavily and clutched at his chest. Suddenly, he lost his balance and fell to the ground.
  • “Get over here now, Lucian! Grandpa’s having a heart attack!” I yelled over the phone before rushing over to Jack.
  • Jack was short of breath; His eyes were shut tight, and the muscles on his face continuously twitched.
  • Shocked, I hurriedly hung up on Lucian and called for an ambulance.
  • When Jack was in the emergency room, I paced back and forth at the door before the nurse asked me to pay for medical bills.
  • I was so nervous that I even entered my PIN incorrectly several times. It was not until I finally saw Lucian that I breathed a sigh of relief.
  • Instinctively, I wanted to throw myself onto Lucian, but he gave me a terrifying look before asking a nurse about Jack’s condition.
  • When he found out that Jack was still in the emergency room, he glared at me with his hateful eyes before running away.
  • Biting my lips, I walked slowly behind Lucian.
