Chapter 75 Relenting Changes Nothing

  • One plate of spike-topped sea snails equaling a day’s worth of sales was an exaggeration, but spike-topped sea snails were no ordinary sea snails. They were rare, deep-sea creatures processed with great workmanship. First, the meat was taken out, and the bad part cut off, then it was mixed with caviar and kept in the freezer. At the same time, the conch shells were cleaned with a custom-made spoon, and then it was laced with golden sea urchin. After that, the snail-caviar mix was stuffed back into the shell with a small pair of pliers. Only after it was heated for ten seconds in the oven—sharp—could it be considered done.
  • A plate of spike-topped sea snails only cost ten thousand at most, but that was only for the raw materials. The true worth came from the sheer manpower. Since they had to make sure it was fresh and had great texture, they had to finish cooking it within a specified time frame. And for that, at least a few dozen people were needed to make it. Most families didn’t have that many servants; only big families like the Meyers had that kind of luxury. Not even the Graces had that privilege. In other words, their daughter never had that kind of food before.
  • When the servant served the sea snail for Arielle, everyone stopped to watch how the show would unfold. The Graces aren’t really that powerful, and she isn’t a young mistress. Does she really know how to eat that? The only time we get to eat that is during the Meyers’ family gathering. As if we can afford that during normal times. She’s going to humiliate herself!
