Chapter 6 : Josiah

  • I see her sighing from her table. But I can also see her clenching her fists like she wants to fight someone right at this moment.
  • “What, dude? You already in love with your fiancée?” Sage teased as he caught me staring at Eunice.
  • I glared at him.
  • I’m still angry. I’m still loathing the fact that Mom has successfully blackmailed me to marry this woman. I’m still hating the fact that she’s got her way to piss me off again.
  • “What’s wrong with Hannah?” I asked, out of the blue, out of topic.
  • Stan raised his brow at me. “Why are you asking?”
  • “Because I want to know why you hate her,” I replied as I plopped myself on the stool.
  • I want to know why every person in my life hates the woman that I love. It’s not like she’s unlikable. To be fair, she is so caring and thoughtful. She’d always think of me first. That’s actually what I loved about her…because I was so used to being set aside.
  • With Hannah, I felt like I was the first choice for once.
  • Bradley looked at me. “Why do you like her?”
  • I shrugged. “I love her. I just do.”
  • “Well, we don’t like her…” Bradley trailed. “…we just do.”
  • I glared at him and balled my fist. I was already about to swing at him when Sage stopped me.
  • “Dude, you cannot ask a question and not like the answer…” he said in a calm voice.
  • Dorian cleared his throat. “We’re not stopping you from dating her, Jos. So don’t worry about that.”
  • Charles nodded and then glanced at Eunice’s way again. “But, Jos, if you don’t like her…” he leaned closer. “…maybe I can court her?”
  • Sage snickered and then gave me a look. “You can, bro. It seems like Josiah’s not attracted to her, anyway.”
  • I clenched my jaw as I glared at all of them. They are all laughing and I was already about to explode.
  • But damn, I was stoned on my seat when I saw Eunice already standing in front of me.
  • She’s wearing her stoic expression while looking down at me. Her silky black hair flows smoothly just below her shoulders and her fair complexion seems to blind anyone who would look at her.
  • “Can we talk?” she asked in a calm expression but a seemingly mad voice.
  • I raised my brow and leaned both of my arms on the table. I stared at her expression and I could see how annoyed she is right now.
  • She took a deep breath and I thought she would say something but she didn’t. Instead, she stared back at me like she’s challenging me right at this moment.
  • “Eunice Lee, right?” Stan seemed to have noticed the tensed atmosphere so he tried to lighten up the mood.
  • Eunice looked at him and gave him a small nod. Now, I’m amused. Is she only serious when she’s talking to me?
  • “I’m Stan,” he said.
  • “Okay,” Eunice replied and never followed up another question.
  • Sage kicked my foot under the table and I glared at him. He faked a laugh and then glanced at Eunice. “Sorry, Eunice, but our friend’s a little retarded.”
  • I shot him another glare but he was relentless.
  • “Do you want to sit for a moment? Josiah’s a little too hard to warm up.”
  • Bradley sniffled a laugh while Dorian and Charles were on their way to laughing.
  • Eunice took a deep breath and stared at me. “I don’t give a damn who you are. I don’t like you.”
  • I blinked at her words. She was blunt. Well, it’s not like I didn’t think she was but now, I’m kind of surprised that she really is direct.
  • “Sorry to break it to you, girl, but I don’t like you, too,” I replied and started to stand up and face her.
  • I don’t like it when she’s looking at down at me. I don’t. It feels so inferior.
  • She looked at me, unfazed and unafraid. “Good,” she smirked. “Now, don’t agree to that marriage.”
  • I narrowed my eyes at her. I do not agree but my Mom has already blackmailed me. I can’t back out now. I can’t risk Hannah for anything.
  • Her brows furrowed as she examined my face. She looks mad and curious at the same time.
  • I took a deep breath. “I’m telling you to not agree to that marriage,” she reiterated.
  • I just stared at her. Why does she keep insisting that I don’t agree? It will be over if she doesn’t agree to it. I can’t not agree to it because Mom already has me on the neck!
  • “Why? Did you agree?” I asked her and she winced. My eyes widened at her response. “Did you?”
  • She looked away and bit her lip. She shut her eyes and took another deep breath before staring back at me again. “Look, it doesn’t matter if I agreed or not. I have my own reasons. I just want you to not agree because I don’t want to get married to you.”
  • Fuck.
  • My.
  • Life.
  • “So, you agreed?” I asked again, this time anger is already dripping out of my throat.
  • She didn’t respond.
  • Damn it.
  • I smiled in disbelief and shook my head. I run my fingers through my hair and exhaled deeply.
  • “I guess we’re doomed, then,” I told her before walking out of this fucking cafeteria. Son of a bitch!
