Chapter 2

  • LANA’S POV
  • “Mama, just killed a man-”
  • “Nice Bambi,” Jordan chuckled as he leaned on the door jam of the nursery. “You’re teaching our boys how to commit murder. Catching them young are you?”
  • He was bare-chested, his tattoos on display, and his sweat pants threatening to slip to the floor any moment. The view looked really good from my side of the room.
  • “I was singing them a lullaby boo-bear,” I looked up at him and smiled. The twins were both resting on either side of my chest, as I tried to rock them to sleep. We had a double rocking chair so we could make it a team effort.
  • “Gimme one of those critters,” he leaned down and took Ben before sitting next to me, laying our son on his chest, and started to sing Charlie Puth’s, Marvin Gaye.
  • I laughed with a shake of my head. “And I thought my song choice was bad.”
  • “Hey sweets-focus,” he said in a serious tone. “Sing it with me.”
  • What could I do but join in the fun? The sooner the kids slept the faster we could get to bed too. They had two nannies but we always made sure we put them to bed whenever we could. We were very much aware that they were no longer babies and didn’t need to be coddled as much, but to us, they would always be our little munchkins.
  • “Who would have thought you’d be such a great dad?” I watched him with a reflective expression.
  • “The twins are only three sweets,” he smiled, stroking Ben’s golden locks. “It’s too early to pass judgment.”
  • “I think you’ve more than proved yourself, babe,” I affirmed.
  • The twins finally dozed off and we laid them on their separate beds. Leaving the side lamp on in case they woke up in the middle of the night, then headed to our bedroom.
  • “I finally have you all to myself,” Jordan said as he slipped his arms around me from behind and drawing me back against his chest. He leaned into me, brushed his lips against my ear, and whispered. “You better pass through the kitchen and get hydrated sweets because you’re about to get very hot..and thirsty...”
  • “That’s ambitious of you,” I teased.
  • “Is that so?” He lifted me and carried me to her bedroom, throwing me on the bed. “I sense a challenge?” He didn’t hesitate to straddle my hips and rest on his haunches.
  • Just then we could hear the sound of crying emitting the baby monitor.
  • "Let the nanny get it. They'll let us know if it's urgent," Jordan said, rolling off the bed and pulling on a T-shirt over his head before holding out his hand to me. "I've got plans for you, sweets. Big plans," he winked.
  • I clasped his hand and followed him out onto our balcony, then up the stairs that led to the rooftop. "Where are we going, Carter?"
  • "It's date night remember?"
  • When we emerged Angelo was putting finishing touches to our banquet. When he saw us he gave a thumbs up and disappeared. There was a plush carpet spread out in the middle and soft beanbags were scattered around a low wooden table laden with mouth-watering dishes. The champagne was open but still in the ice bucket and dimly lit gas lamps lined the walls, while soft music played in the background.
  • "Welcome to your date night, Bambi."
  • "Awww..you did this for me?"
  • "Hold that thought because I'm going to do a whole lot more before the night is over."
  • "I can't wait," I replied in a breathy voice.
  • "Me more than you," he sauntered over to the table and sank onto one of the cushions, pulling me down with him.
  • We spent the rest of the night sipping on champagne popping tiny morsels of food into each other's mouths. The conversation bordered between sweet and nothing. Which were my favorite topics.
  • Between work and the boys, we hadn't been spending enough time together. I loved my work and the demands associated with it, but sometimes I missed being normal. Just a regular girl that wasn't always in the spotlight-with a husband that was surrounded by friends that attracted attention like a magnet. I could sneeze and it would make the entertainment news headlines. Speaking of which, Jordan's rage of fury on some talk show had tongues wagging.
  • My husband had quite a temper but it had since simmered down, but only slightly. When provoked he had no qualms about expressing his displeasure. Once a bad boy always a bad boy I guess.
  • Don't get me wrong, ever since we got married he has changed, for the better. It's only he can be very protective of those he cares about and you could probably count those people with both hands.
  • After we ate we lay under the stars in a comfortable silence. I treasured such moments-lived for them.
  • "I love being alone with you like this," Jordan said, reading my mind.
  • "Ditto babe," I said, snuggling deeper into his chest.
  • "I wish I could freeze time."
  • 'We can't but we can savor the moment right?" I kissed his jaw.
  • "I love you, Lana Carter. Don't ever forget that." He held me tighter, dropping a kiss on my forehead.
  • "You sound... Are you okay babe?" I furrowed my brows as I glanced into his arctic orbs.
  • "Yeah..no.." He sighed. "It's this whole thing with Rita..her cancer is back and they can't- we can't do anything to save her. Just the thought of losing her..of losing you-"
  • Rita was like family to him. I could understand his distress.
  • "I'm not going anywhere, Carter. I'm right here. You're not going to get rid of me that easily."
  • "Good," his lips pressed against mine. "Hope it stays that way," he smiled, his tone lighter.
  • "Let's go to bed."
  • "Eager much?" He teased as we got to our feet.
  • "For you, always."
  • "Music to my ears baby," he smiled and swept me off my feet.
  • "I can walk on my own you know."
  • "Then enjoy it while it lasts, cos when I'm done with you, you'll be lucky if you can crawl to the bathroom," he smirked.
  • All I could do was gasp and blush like crazy, which only stroked my husband's already huge ego.
  • I groaned and buried my head in his neck."I'm married to a monster."
