Chapter 12 Cockroach

  • Watching Gillian Wesley scrambling away frantically, Martin Porter put on a sardonic grin, What good ‘eyes’ Henry Porter has, to be able to get his hands on such a cutie!
  • In the middle of a conversation with Master James, Henry Porter turned towards Gillian upon hearing a series of hysterical footsteps, “Gillian? What happened? What are you running away from?”
  • The man’s deep, silvery voice acted like a tranquilizer, slowly streaming into Gillian’s heart. She stopped running at once, smiling at master apologetically while steadily approaching Henry. “I was frightened by a cockroach.”
  • “Hahaha!” Master James chortled, “Henry was just telling me that you could lift a couch. How are you still scared of cockroaches?”
  • “Grandpa, I…” Gillian’s cheeks blushed.
  • Henry felt around himself and grabbed her hand, “Gillian, grandpa has prepared some gifts and told me to bring them to the Wesley family. After all, you’re moving in. I need to visit your parents.”
  • “Now?” Gillian froze.
  • “Yes, you could pack some belongings and move to my place right away.”
  • “Sure,” Gillian could not refute.
  • At the Wesley family.
  • Looking at the piles of gifts presented n the able, a remarkable greed sparkled in Elizabeth Wesley’s eyes. She went through each of them in detail, checking out the brands and expiry dates. “Hey Henry, you don’t need to bring all these with you!”
  • “No, this is my first time visiting, it’s my honor.” Henry’s voice corresponded with his facial expression – they were equally as listless.
  • Gillian witnessed how Elizabeth’s eyes didn’t match her words, as though treating Henry like a fool. She asked casually, “Mom, where are Lillian and dad?”
  • “I don’t know where Lillian went! Your dad was relieved to hear that you’ve married Henry and went to work!”
  • Elizabeth stopped there. She put down the gift box in her hands and winked at Gillian, “Hoho, you know how busy it can be to work at our paper manufacturing factory!”
  • Gillian didn’t know what the wink implied at first, but she quickly worked it out. She let out a wry smile and disregarded Elizabeth.
  • “Henry, wait here. Let me pack a few clothes, and we can leave.” After informing Henry, Gillian went upstairs into her bedroom.
  • Meanwhile, Elizabeth gritted her teeth in anger. Fortunately, Henry Porter was around, or she would’ve lashed out fiercely at Gillian.
  • She blamed Gillian for the lack of conscience. After casually expressing what hardship they faced in the business, Elizabeth expected the Porter family to invest in the Wesleys’ factory!
  • Elizabeth was sulking at the fact that Gillian fled, turning a blind eye to her!
  • Gillian planned to never return home in the first place. But since they were home, she figured that she should hastily pack a few clothes.
  • With the luggage in her hands, Gillian was on the verge of leaving her bedroom when Elizabeth blocked Gillian’s path, then closed the door behind her.
  • “Gillian, are you leaving just like this?” Elizabeth asked petulantly with her arms crossed.
  • Gillian knitted her delicate brows together, asking with a wistful smile, “Mom, you made me marry Henry Porter in the first place. What’s the matter? Did you regret now?”
  • “I, Elizabeth Wesley, never go back on my words, and therefore, of course I wouldn’t regret!” Elizabeth inched forward and suddenly let out a dazzling smile, “But listen, Gillian, after all the blood, sweat, and tears I had exhausted to raise you, are you just going to leave like that?”
  • Gillian shuffled backward subconsciously while staring at Elizabeth’s peculiar smile. “What do you mean?”
  • Seeing that Gillian was letting her guards up, Elizabeth went straight to the point. She spread out her arms. “I brought you home from the orphanage over twenty years ago. I fed you, put clothes on you, brought you to school, and finally marry you into a wealthy family. Aren’t you supposed to show some reciprocation?”
  • Gillian chuckled as it instantly dawned on her. “Hoho, yes, that’s true.”
  • After finishing her words, Gillian retrieved a shabby something from her bag, which she called a wallet, then took out her bank card and handed it to Elizabeth, “There’s thirty thousand in here. It’s all the savings I have since starting to work. It’s not much, but it’s everything I have. The pin number is the combination of dad and your birthday.”
  • Elizabeth peered down at the card in Gillian’s hand disdainfully. “Thirty thousand? Are you trying to dismiss me with thirty thousand?”
  • “If you don’t want the money, so be it. That’s all I have!” Gillian didn’t bother wasting another second. She put her card away and prepared to leave.
  • Giggling, Elizabeth, pulled the shelf drawer open and handed to her a pen and a paper. “Leave a debt note before leaving.”
  • “What?” Gillian couldn’t believe her ears.
  • Elizabeth answered with a snigger, “Gillian Wesley, do you think it’s easy to raise a child? Look at you, rocking the flawless skin complexion and voluptuous body. After all I’ve provided you, shouldn’t you pay me some alimony?”
