Chapter 10 Twins?!

  • At the living area.
  • Gillian Wesley greeted all of the seniors in the Porter family.
  • Master James Porter received a blue silk brocade box from the maid. “Gillian, this is a wedding gift from grandpa. Take a look and see if you like it.”
  • Gillian approached him obsequiously and received the box. “Thank you, grandpa.”
  • “Hurry up now, open it. Your grandma left this behind. She told me to give this to the first grandson who gets married.” Master Porter caressed the grey and thin beard under his chin while wearing a dazzling smile.
  • Henry Porter tilted his face towards Gillian with a placid smile. “This is grandma’s heirloom.”
  • “This is too expensive…” Gillian was reluctant to open the box, “I…”
  • Aunt Chloe Porter saw her reluctance and said with a tender smile, “No, it’s not too much. Grandma said that the jade chooses its owner. If you love it at first glance, just accept it. It is fate. Otherwise, feel free to return it.”
  • Gillian heaved a sigh of relief upon hearing that. She nodded and opened the box.
  • Lying on the golden satin was a round, crimson red jade with a slither of whiteness at the center.
  • Gillian was not well-versed at jades, but the jade felt indescribably familiar to her for some reason. Her eyes lit up as she scooped the jade into her fingers.
  • The jade felt strangely cold to hold. Under the reflection of the sunlight, Gillian’s pupils constricted for a split second. The red interior appeared to be moving to her eyes. She raised the jade higher, holding it against the sun curiously for a more exact look of the inside. “Wow, this is magical. It looks like the veins of a human being, and blood is flowing in the center.”
  • The elders of the family who were sitting on the couch were astonished at the description.
  • “Stop overstating it, I’ve seen that jade before. When did it ever look like something was moving?” Petunia Porter snorted scornfully.
  • Meanwhile, Chloe Porter and her father exchanged looks, and gratification filled their eyes simultaneously.
  • “Petunia, you have no idea, mom used to say that only the purest heart could see the blood moving inside. Our eyes have been tainted by the worldly things we have experienced in the past, so it’s natural that we don’t understand the mystery.” Explained Chloe.
  • Gillian froze for a moment, then frantically put the jade back to the brocade box, shut the lit, and returned it to Master Porter. “Grandpa, this must be a precious treasure. I can’t accept it.”
  • “Nonsense! This is fate. Everyone has just witnessed the jade choose you as its owner. Child, take it!” Master tapped his dragon staff on the floor, then said to Gillian with a gentle look.
  • “Urm, Henry…” Gillian resorted to seeking Henry Porter’s opinion.
  • After all, they got married hurriedly. There was no affection among them. She felt embarrassed to accept the gift.
  • The man kept his eyes lowered for a sip of tea, then responded to her, “Gillian, if you keep on insisting, grandpa might think that you’re not willing to be his granddaughter-in-law.”
  • Gillian blushed to the roots of her hair. She bowed at master from the waist courteously. “Thank you, grandpa.”
  • “Wonderful!” Master Porter chortled joyfully. His nose was pointing towards the ceiling.
  • Master’s laughter had just ceased when a man showed up in the living area along with a sardonic voice. “What’s so funny? Why is grandpa laughing so hard?”
  • Gillian turned towards the source of the voice curiously. As soon as she saw the man entering the house, the brocade box slipped out of her fingers in astonishment, falling onto the carpet.
  • The man rocked a tall body, standing at least six feet and two inches… That was not the point.
  • The man’s distinct facial features, resembling a work of art, looked identical to her husband, who was sitting in a wheelchair!
  • Gillian involuntarily looked to the side. After ascertaining that the pair looked just like one another, she gaped at the man, “Twins?”
  • Chloe promptly stood up to pick the box off the floor before handing it back to Gillian, then said with a warm smile, “Look at how shocked you are to see Martin. By the looks of it, you know nothing about Henry’s twin brother.”
  • “Thank you, Aunt Chloe! I… Didn’t know.” Gillian bit her lip awkwardly as she received the box.
  • She was mortified to have just learned of Henry Porter being one half of a pair of twins!
  • While they were speaking, Martin Porter walked towards them, brushed his gaze across the room, greeted everyone, and locked his eyes on Gillian. “Is this my elder brother’s newly wedded wife?”
  • The man’s eyes were laced with mockery with a dash of disdain. His grin looked uncomfortably arrogant.
  • “Hello, my name is Gillian Wesley.” Gillian nodded her head slightly.
  • Upon a closer look into Martin’s eyes, it suddenly dawned on her that they had utterly different expressions despite their identical looks, especially those bottomless, deep-set eyes.
  • Henry was blind, but his eyes brimmed with gentle warmth. He appeared calm and looked nothing like what the rumors said about him being a violent man who killed recklessly.
  • Meanwhile, Martin behaved frivolously and had an air of unscrupulousness clung onto him.
  • Neither anyone in the family nor Derrick Marco had brought up to Gillian about a pair of twins in the Porter family.
  • Could this be a secret?
