Chapter 8 Karma strikes
- Mason's POV
- Yeah ok I was being a dick.
- But I don't care.
- It was better this way.
- I needed to make it clear we were still enemies.
- Well not really enemies but we did still hate each other.
- Also I needed to make sure she wouldn't suspect me of doing anything considering her job.
- First of all it was clear as day that what I was doing was illegal and I could go to prison for hacking into their documents.
- Especially since her boss was an asshole for smaller things.
- And if he ever finds out what I did he would make sure I pay for everything.
- And I had a suspicion my consequences would be far worse than they were for Rachel and every woman that was in that company before her.
- So back to the topic at hand.
- It was really important that no one knew about what I was doing.
- Also I didn't want her to think I developed any feelings towards her and that it was the reason behind my secret operation.
- Damn it,. That sounds so lame.
- Let's find a better name for my operation as I call it.
- Operation clean name?
- Nah, not cool enough.
- Hmm, maybe dirty deeds.
- Yes!
- That is the one.
- It's not too obvious but it still makes sense to me.
- So back to dirty deeds.
- I accomplished what I needed, deleting those letters and writing new ones, and also successfully hid any trace of me being on their server.
- Now I was thinking what else could I do.
- I had an idea but I needed to be really careful because I didn't want Rachel to find out what I did.
- Ah to hell with it.
- The sooner she gets a job sooner she will move out and I could have my peace and quiet back.
- So I did probably the stupidest thing I ever did in my life.
- I hacked her computer.
- Oh shut up!
- Sure I did it for myself but I also helped her out in the process so it wasn't so bad.
- So as I was saying beforeI had to point out the obvious.
- I hacked into her computer, to my defense, I didn't touch any private files.
- I only looked for her CV,which wasn't hard to find, since it was right on the desktop.
- I quickly copied it to my desktop and left her computer.
- I had everything I needed.
- So I started searching.
- I knew she was looking for an apartment nearby.
- So I searched for every company that wasn't more than half an hour away by subway or car.
- When I narrowed down my choices I looked for those that were looking for a secretary or anything similar.
- I didn't even look at what companies I selected.
- It was only important they checked all the criteriums,
- I checked all the companies that were suitable and wrote a quick introduction message.
- I put her CV and my recommendation letter into it as well and hit send.
- I made sure to send it from her mail though because I think it would be a bit tricky to explain how I got an email with information about her job interview.
- I was waiting for the confirmation email, so I would be sure all the companies received the letter when a ping was heard from the living room.
- Which meant, Rachel left her laptop in the living room.
- But it also meant I only had a few seconds to log out of her mail or I would be in deep shit.
- Thank God I was hacking and coding for living.
- I typed quickly and managed to disconnect our computers in only seconds.
- I think it was a record even for me.
- A few seconds later someone knocked on my door.
- I stood up and opened the door.
- "How can I help you Rachel?"
- She looked at me with an annoyed expression.
- I know I should put more effort into getting along but what for? Soon she would be gone and the end.
- "Didn't you tell me you won't be a prick today? You just gave me another reason to never believe a male specimen."
- I rolled my eyes at her dramatic behaviour.
- "Is this why you interrupted me?"
- Now it was her turn to roll her eyes.
- "No Sherlock. I wanted to ask you, what is the name of the company where you work?"
- All my senses were on high alert at her question.
- I had a bad feeling about this.
- Is it possible for karma to hit you back in a few minutes?
- "Code hack. But why is this information important?"
- She gave me a huge smile, but it wasn't kind.
- It was full of evil promises.
- "Guess what roomie. I have an interview tomorrow. In Code hack. Wish me luck."
- She turned around and went into her room, and I was standing there like a piece of stone, trying to process her words.
- See guys?
- Told you I had a bad feeling.
- Because I wasn't paying attention I sent the mail to the one recipient I used most often.
- And that was my company's mail.
- Now she is going to an interview in my company tomorrow.
- and since I knew my boss, I also knew he would like Rachel and she would be hired on the spot,
- Especially with the recommendation letter I wrote her.
- So yes, I was fucked.
- Karma 1, Mason 0.
