Chapter 4

  • "Mari, it's cold."
  • As a towering guy approached me from behind, I abruptly wiped my tears away. The rain wasn't pouring into my clothes anymore as an umbrella covered above me.
  • I tilt my head and saw Gin behind. He placed his black suit to my shoulders and didn't throw a glance at my face. But instead, he looked at the TV screen where Leo and Scarlette's series was being advertised. I was about to look back at the electronic store but then, Gin pulled me closer to his chest.
  • Someone's comfort is what I need right now and so I wept in his arms. The screams of my heart can't contain my expectations earlier. I feel so heartbroken. Even if it's only for a series, the thought of them developing feelings for each other scares me.
  • We just stayed silent for a moment until my body weakened. With all hopes gone, I returned from home and cried myself to sleep.
  • From the windows, shed a light. My eyelids were heavy but I manage to open my eyes in half. I was rather feeling under the weather but I still forced myself to school.
  • Not once did I check my phone today. I turned it off and left it at the house so I wouldn't have any choice. To focus on our subjects and aim the 1st rank is a must. I can't afford to disappoint my parents again. All I need to do is to make them proud and attain their trust so that I can keep my relationship with Leo as well.
  • "Hey, Emma," I called. It was lunch break and I was about to go to the cafeteria when Emma and Samantha go on without me. "Samantha?"
  • Did they just ignore me?
  • "Emma?" I repeated, in a louder tone this time. Emma turned her head in my direction. To my surprise, she just stared at me and mind their own business.
  • I gulped.
  • Are they mad at me because of ditching them yesterday? Well, I can't blame them... I'm at fault here. Maybe I need to give them some space since I always abandon them as friends for Leo. After the two of us became together, my time for my friends lessened. I do admit that I'm guilty but for the love of loving Leo, I have no regrets for doing so.
  • "Would you like to join me?" I turned my head to see Gin. He was grinning and his face is blooming too. His hand was drawn out and I was hesitant at first, but I came with him eventually.
  • Many students were looking in our direction, mostly girls swooning over Gin. And of course, some were giving me intense stares. Well, Gin is the crowd's favorite, it's no doubt. People would like to hang out with him yet he chose to be with me at this hour.
  • We head onto the back of the Academy and I followed him without uttering a word until I felt nervous. I wasn't really the type of student to roam around the campus. The library's corner is the only place I can be seen often.
  • "Where are we going?" I asked. The way we were walking through wasn't part of the Academy anymore. I just realize that we already escaped from school!
  • "Trust me," he said.
  • Looking at my watch, we still have half an hour to return to the Academy so the worries in my mind have calmed.
  • "I want to treat you here," Gin said, standing in front of the ice cream store. It's a popular store here in our City and is usually visited by nearby students from various Academies, but I haven't been here because of its expensive price range. "I just feel like you need something to chill your mind."
  • "Thanks, Gin."
  • Since it was his treat and I could feel my stomach starving, I entered the ice cream shop with him. To my astonishment, Gin was greeted by the staff as their 'boss'. I can't quite imagine how he manages many business stores yet studying at the same time.
  • "How do you do this?" I asked. He raised both of his eyebrows, looking clueless to my point. "How do you handle these stores? Isn't it hard for you?"
  • "It's my Dad's, but I will inherit it all in the future so I need to manage it from time to time as well," Gin said.
  • "Cool."
  • He gave me a pair of gloves and a large spoon to scoop from the flavors. I was in shock because he let me enter the insides of the ice cream station. It was supposed to be for the staff only but luckily, he's the son's owner after all.
  • The excitement made my eyes sparkle. There were too many flavors to choose from but my eyes are fixed only to the strawberry ice cream! Gin chuckled while staring at me. I may act childish at this moment but strawberry is my weakness! It's my favorite, I'm crying right now.
  • I can't get hold of the scoop because the strawberry flavor is too hard. Even how much I try to scoop, it won't come out. I really want the strawberry ice cream so bad.
  • "Need a hand?" Gin took place over my position and smoothly scoop from the ice cream. With my eyes glittering in happiness, he lends me the cone. Finally!
  • We enjoyed our ice cream and I even had the privilege to add on different kinds of toppings as much as I want to. Is this paradise? Because I don't want to leave here anymore! This is a one-time opportunity and I did everything I could to take advantage of this chance. A chance to try on all flavors without worrying how much it would cost!
  • "Thank you, Gin," I said, giving thanks to his kind heart.
  • "It's nothing, as long as for you." He became red as cute as a tomato and hid his face from me. Yeah, I forgot. This guy likes me yet I took advantage of him! It wasn't my intention, I hope he didn't misunderstand a thing.
  • Because class hours were soon to begin, I insisted on returning to the Academy. My eyebrows narrowed when the students we passed through gave us both dissatisfied faces. Gin took out his cellphone and I was in shock to see the photos on the Campus Crush page.
  • It was a picture of us yesterday! The photo where we were embracing each other. I was more stunned to see the caption. Just what should I do in this situation?!
  • "MARINETTE AND GIN CAUGHT DATING."
