Chapter 2 A New Beginning

  • Slowly, she opens her eyes. She feels like she slept on clouds. As she tries to stretch, she notices how the ceiling looks awfully tall, different from the orphanage. She places her two feet on the ground, feeling the cold granite underneath. As she tries to stand up she groans, like she has broken one too many ribs. She looks back at the bed realizing she doesn’t recognize anything. The huge windows that allow the light rays to hit her eyes put her in awe. She is concerned, yet she doesn’t feel fear. She finally takes her first steps and notices a big mirror. As she stands in front of it, something has changed; her hair a little darker, but the big difference It’s her eyes; they are a dark rose color.
  • “That’s not normal”.
  • Eve feels she is losing her mind. She moves a few steps back as images of the previous night come flashing in. “Oh no, what the hell happened!?” she screams. She notices a door on her right and pushes it open. She is tip-toeing so no one will realize that she tries to escape. The house is huge, making her go around in circles, unable to find the door.
  • As she is about to open a random door a voice from behind says, “Miss Eve, this isn’t the door for getting out of this mansion”. She jumps in the air and lets out a cowardice scream.
  • “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to frighten you” he tries to calm her. “Who--who are you? Where am I?” she mumbles, looking like a wet cat.
  • “This is the mansion of Lord Ezra Crow, the person that came to rescue. I am his advisor Axel Norris, here to keep you company till mr. Crow is back”. Eve starts remembering a gentle but cold face that came from the sky. “That wasn’t a dream?”.
  • “Evil nuns…the orphanage on fire. Is everybody dead?!”.
  • “No need to worry. The people that were inside were.. let’s say, corrupted. They weren’t real humans” he tries to explain as simply as he can. “What were they?” she asks, bewildered.
  • “They were beings that are called demons. They were after you”.
  • She stands there with a blank gaze. She isn’t sure how to take all this in. “That’s a joke, right? Me?”. But Axel isn’t laughing, and her awkward giggle turns into a serious expression.
  • “Mr. Crow warned me that you would have trouble taking it all in. I am so sorry”.
  • “Nah, this is a psychiatric facility or something, isn’t it?”, she thinks to herself. She decides to make a run for it, to escape one more time. “Miss Eve, please don’t do that!” Axel scream in vain. She finds the front door and opens it. As she is about to step outside, a thunderous figure appears in front of her, impeding her.
  • “Where do you think you are going”, cold tone, yet calm and assertive. She is frozen, like every inch of her body orders her to stop. His eyes in the color of the sea, revealing no emotion.
  • “I’m sorry, you have the wrong person” she says, trying to push him aside, yet he won’t move. She takes some steps back and he realizes her complex was pale.
  • “Are you afraid?” he queries her. “No, I…Are you Ezra?” she asks hesitantly. “Mr. Crow for you” he asserts and she raises an eyebrow. “Well mr. Crow, I believe you’ve mistaken me. I am not crazy, can I go back now?” she asks in a demanding tone. “Wait, crazy?”, he is confused. “Yes. Obviously this is a crazy house and you’ve put me in”, she still refuses to believe. Ezra rolls his eyes and takes a step back. He raises his palm at arm’s length, and from thin air a bolt of ice appears. She drops to her knees, pinching her arm again and again.
  • “Now? Are you ready to cut the crap and talk?”.
