Chapter 8

  • Episode 8
  • Maxwell
  • I sat in the dining with my little princess, savoring the delicious meal Joyce had made for everyone. I forced a smile on my face as I stare from Joyce's flushed face to my beautiful daughter.
  • She had blushed at the way I had complimented her cooking yet again. But then that was just a distraction to keep my mind and attention on Skyler. I didn't want my mind to wander about thinking from why Linda didn't care to check up on me and to why everything was happening so fast. I had done my best to hide the mark without making it noticeable to the both of them, which I was glad I did.
  • I sighed when I suddenly heard the clicking sounds of Linda's heel against the ground. I know she didn't care that that noise might have disturbed our meal. She gazed at me for a while before climbing the stairs, with a lot of shopping bags in both her hands as she walked away looking elegant as ever.
  • I sighed as my head follows the direction she walked through until her presence disappeared from view...
  • We resume eating but this time silently, it wasn't like I expected any less from Linda. I should have known better than to think she actually did care for me. I still had that nagging feeling I oftentimes try to keep away. The feeling that she's tired of the marriage and wanted nothing more than to just be herself and have all the fun in the world.
  • Or was motherhood tiring to her? I questioned myself as a sigh escaped my lips. I couldn't even place my hands on what exactly the problem was or what might have gone wrong between the both of us.
  • I remember how thrilled and fun when we started the marriage. we would still attend parties on the weekends, get drunk, had a lot of love making. We definitely spoiled each other in so many ways. It was just like we were drugged by each other and didn't get enough from spending time and having fun with each other.
  • But as the year passed after she gave birth to our daughter Skyler, things changed with her and she began to distance herself from me. She cared less about anything and would just sit around complaining or completely ignoring our child's cry. I worked hard and got her everything that would put a smile on her face. I thought that was working until it becomes the only thing she wanted from me and now things just keep getting bad between the two of us.
  • "Hey I'm okay, thank you for the meal Joyce," I said to her and excused myself. I walked up to our room to find her trying some of the things she got. She smiled to herself as she pose in front of the mirror adorning herself...
  • "Seriously Linda, is this the only thing you care about huh?" I asked her with a look of anger plastered on my face. She turned her head to look at me but didn't care about anything I had just said now.
  • "Oh my darling, what do you think of this outfit, I mean I know I look gorgeous already, but how does it fit?" She asked and placed her hands on my shoulders which got me angry as I slapped the hands away leaving her standing in shock.
  • "You do realize that I wasn't home last night and that your daughter didn't go to school today right," I started looking at her while she rolled her eyes and started to pull the heel off her leg.
  • "I do realize that, okay and what do you want me to do about it. For love's sake let's not drag this matter, most important thing is you're back and nothing happened to you, and as for Skyler I guess that's your fault for not returning home early," she said making me stunned.
  • "Wow, love sake, my fault," I repeated looking at her in anger. I am trying to get disgusted or even hate her but then I find it so hard to do that, and I presume she knows that.

  • It was around 2 pm when I received an urgent call from the office, I looked through it and it was my boss who had called. I immediately rushed to pick it up realizing that I hadn't explained why I am absent today which sent cold shivers running down my spine.
  • "Good afternoon sir," I greeted with a shaky voice and I could hear him hissed from over the phone.
  • "Maxwell, you chose to play with fire today of all days, damn it," he said I'm am set tone, making me rise to my feet in fear.
  • "Get your ass to the office right now, the CEO has arrived and you might lose your job," he said sounding serious as I quickly rushed to the stairs, hanging up from the call.
  • How could I forget that the new boss was coming today, I was so lucky that I was chosen to be his assistant, meaning more pay and experience for me. But how could I have forgotten that I had to be in the office today?
  • "Fuck that club," I murmured to my hearing as I immediately scrambled around my closest, looking for something good to wear, when my eyes landed on a blue suit, making a smile curve on my lips...

  • In Winthrop's company, Mr. Andrew could be seen giving a dead glare to the man he put in charge of this place, till he eventually returned.
  • "What do you mean by he has never missed a day for work Mr. Smith," he asked in a cold voice sending chills to run down his spine.
  • Mr. Smith can only fear for Maxwell, he knew very well that nothing was going to save him from their cold Boss.
  • Maxwell was supposed to update him about the happenings around hear before any meetings were held to inform the other employees.
  • But his newly assigned assistant couldn't make it to work today.
  • "Inform him that he has lost his job and send me someone competent now," the CEO said and walked back to his office.
  • Damn it, he cursed as he arrived at his office. The first day getting here and all he could see was their incompetence, how are they running this place in my absence, he thought to himself, as he sat on his seat sighing deeply.
  • On the other hand, Maxwell had arrived hastily in a bit of confusion. Instead of using his car, he had taken a can clearly confused.
  • He got to Mr. Smith's office and he sighed shaking his head at Maxwell who stumbled backward in shock.
  • There was no way he wanted to agree that he lost his job or that position, whichever it was he has to do something to convince the CEO not to get rid of him. And we that he barged into his office without knocking.
  • "What the heck," Andrew said in anger when he turned around and his face meant with Maxwell as they were both stunned staring at each other.
  • Maxwell kept looking, unable to believe his eyes as to who he was seeing in front of him, and in shock, he uttered: "you" pointing at the familiar man in front of him...
