Chapter 6 Mercy

  • The clock continues to tick, I am expecting the blade to make contact with my skin and cut through my poor arm at any moment now. I can’t help but tremble and be engulfed in self pity.
  • What did I ever do to deserve any of this? I was only six years old when Alpha Theo took over my pack. I have always been an obedient child and made a point to be kind to everyone because my parents would not tolerate anything less. If this is a punishment for a sin I committed, I have no idea what that was.
  • No, this had nothing with me. Some greedy, evil and stupid human decided to have a nuclear weapon plant. I wish I can one day meet that person and ask him or her what the fuck for? I wonder if they are still alive and if they know the real consequences of their actions.
  • There are times when I think that the prophecy is my blessing, not today. Had it not been for it, I would have suffered once, died and buried like every heir of the Lilly town wolf pack. Why didn’t the prophecy chose someone else, a man for instance. He would probably suffer like I do, but at least there will be no looking behind his back terrified that the alpha’s friends might rape you. Omario would not claim another man, there would no need. He would not have ended up with his shirt and definitely not here right now accused of stealing that shirt.
  • Thinking of Omario and his wolf. Things became really weird and confusing for me last night. I have no idea how I know Titan, but I do. I feel like I have my whole life. They are one person but Omario makes me self conscious and uncomfortable, but not Titan. It’s a pity I will never get to stroke and run my other hand through his beautiful fluffy fur.
  • “Someone has a death wish.”
  • My eyes flip open at his comforting angry voice before he swiftly advances towards Kane. I must have been too deep in my thoughts because I did not even hear him walk in.
  • Brenda and Sylvester quickly let go of me and helplessly watch their friend trembling in front of Omario.
  • “Yo…your Majesty.”
  • I don’t think I have ever seen evil Kane this shaken. His hefty body is not only trembling but he has even wet his pants.
  • In a twinkle of an eye, Kane’s seventy kilograms body is tossed against the wall, the impact making the walls shake like they are being hit by an earthquake.
  • I scream through my stuffed mouth, my eyes widening at the horrific sight before me. I have seen a lot of death in this castle, but never someone’s skull cracked open and his brain splattered everywhere.
  • Omario glances at me and my body shutters, a whimpering sound resonates from my throat as I try my best to suppress my already masked screams. The last thing I want to do is upset an already raging blood-thirsty, killing machine. My heart starts pounding when he strides towards me. I whimper while he studies me for a second and pulls out the cloth from my mouth, making me cough violently. My head starts spinning when he gentle pats my back like he did in the bathtub last night.
  • “I..I..I.”
  • I want to explain the reasons I took his shirt but words fail me.
  • “Breathe.”
  • It’s a command that gets me panting for a full minute before gaining enough courage to speak again.
  • “I swear I was not stealing your shirt. I just could not find my clothes. I swear I planned on taking it back once I got my clothes. You can ask prophet Rufus to look into my soul. I was not stealing it.”
  • He does not respond but looks at me like I am being childish or crazy before turning to Brenda and Sylvester.
  • “Is that what all this is about?”
  • Brenda nods. “The rules are clear on theft, Your Majesty.”
  • “I freaken’ put that shirt on her!”
  • His forceful response startles me but I am not the only one. Brenda stubbles slightly before holding on to her husband. At least I am absolved of stealing, I get to keep my arm.
  • “We had no idea, Your Majesty.” Sylvester says with a straight face.
  • I can’t believe that he is lying through his teeth when it’s an offence to lie to royals. I guess this is what they meant when they said it will be their word against mine. I am a nobody here, so I don’t even bother calling him out on his lie.
  • Omario’s hands clench into fists before striding towards him. He wraps his hand around his neck and glares at him.
  • “Are you telling me that a scared, helpless servant girl who is about to lose her arm would be stupid enough to not tell you that, Sylvester? Are you making a fool out of me?”
  • Silence. Only the ticking clocks dares to make a noise.
  • The Beta’s would be really brave to continue lying to an already fuming prince, but they know better. Brenda let’s go of her husband and drops on her knees, shaking.
  • I know that Omario is strangling Sylvester when the muscles on his arm bulge out and Brenda starts weeping uncontrollable, pleading for her husband. Sylvester’s eyes are now bulging out and blood shot. I look away to avoid the pitiful sight.
  • “I don’t think I minced my words last night when I said she’s mine,” Omario roars before a crunching sound of Sylvester’s neck bones breaking is heard and his lifeless body is thrown to the floor.
  • Brenda stares at her dead husband and chokes on her tears. I am irritated with myself but I can’t help but feel sorry for her. She and both the men who now lay lifeless on the floor have tortured and tormented me. They were about to cut my arm off but I still pity them.
  • I can’t take it anymore when he walks towards Brenda. I somehow feel responsible for the life lost. I slide on the floor, close my eyes and cover my ears, but I can still hear Brenda’s horrific cries.
  • “Please have mercy on me, Your Majesty. For my niece’s sake.”
  • Branda’s plea is manipulative but I hope it works. Two deaths is more than enough. I don’t know how I was even chosen to be the one to destroy Alpha Theo when I can’t stand watching those I have vowed to kill with him die. I blame this on my parents. Their teachings did not prepare me for any of this.
  • “Some people are beyond redemption, Sweetheart, but we must always have mercy”
  • “As royals, everything within this pack’s territory is our responsibility. The kindness, love and cruelty. Small to a point of insignificance, middle and even the big ones like the vast oceans and sky, is ours to nature and protect.”
  • That’s what my father told me, not this cut-throat nightmare kingdom I live in.
  • “For Olivia’s sake, I will let you live but one more disobedience, I won’t be as merciful.”
  • I pull my knees up and hug them before bending my head over them, refusing to look at the man who is now approaching me. He sits next to me. Too close for comfort. My body stiffens when his hands reaches to touch me.
  • “Let’s go, I will not hurt you.” His voice is now gentle but I don’t believe him. He just killed his father’s best friends without a second thought and thinks it’s mercy to leave his soon to be aunt in-law a widow.
  • “Abi.”
  • His voice is soft like a whisper. I tremble when his hand tries to reach out to me again. He just crushed someone’s neck with that hand.
  • He curses under his breath before commanding Brenda to leave the room. I don’t know what he plans to do when we are alone. I don’t look up even when I hear the sound of something tearing up, but something else does…
