Chapter 5 Gossip Of The Moment

  • The next day, Helena went to work, trying to pretend that nothing had happened. She wore her best outfit to prove, at least to herself, that she was better than those two. And also because she needs to work out some details of the trip.
  • Arriving there, many looked at her in a very strange way: some laughed, others felt sorry and some were curious. A successful professional and admired for her determination and competence, she is now nothing more than a poor thing who has become the "Facebook horn". She even heard the comments:
  • "If a girl like her couldn't keep a boyfriend, then there's no hope for either of us..."
  • “Poor thing, she doesn't deserve this. Knowing about her boyfriend's betrayal on Facebook must not have been easy for her..."
  • “Honestly, that guy never cheated on me…”
  • "She always thought she was too perfect! She thought she would never be cheated on! Well done!"
  • "Now that she's single, we might have a chance! Let's bet who goes out with her first!"
  • How selfish people were!
  • She went straight to her office, trying to ignore the mound of nonsensical comments. She closed the door, sat down at her desk, and lowered her head to try to hold back tears, which was no use. And to make matters worse, he came across a photo of Luiz in a frame. He was looking at that photo she'd taken at a martial arts tournament when someone knocked on the door.
  • — Miss. Helena, how are you? _ It was Mr. Jose, the caretaker.
  • — Enter Mr. José. — No matter who it was, she treated everyone well.
  • — Is everything ok with the lady?
  • — Yes and you?
  • — Yea. I just wanted to know if you need anything.
  • — No thanks... in fact, I need you to throw that garbage out. — She delivered the photo of Luiz. In turn, the kind caretaker looked at the object in his hands and spilled:
  • — If you allow me, that guy, son of a mare, never deserved it! And you might as well find a good match, someone at your same level.
  • Even the janitor knew the news. He repeated the same phrase that his parents and friends always told him. As sad as she is, Helena just smiled.
  • — Thank you for your support Mr. José, but I really need you to throw this away and leave me alone. I need to focus on work.
  • — I am always at your disposal, Miss. Helena.
  • As soon as the doorman left his office, Roberto Barroso, head of the legal department at Shingen S/A, came. He's been hitting on her since his job selection at the company and now that she's single, he wants to take advantage of the situation. As soon as he entered, he already imagined what he wanted, even so, he treated him politely:
  • — Good morning Roberto, how can I help you?
  • — Helena dear, I want you to know that I'm on your side!
  • — Thank you, but if you didn't come to talk about work, I'd rather you leave me alone and...
  • — You deserve someone of your level, like me. I'm lawyer. My mother is a judge. My father is a judge. And my grandfather was once an important promoter of the Republic and...
  • She'd heard that story from her family a hundred times, she knew it by heart and sautéed it. And she always said hers, in a joking tone:
  • "Wow, that's cool! I'm an accountant. My father was a worker, or bricklayer as they say. My mother was a cleaning lady, but the two of them have done a little bit of everything in their lives. And my grandmother is a refugee from the war."
  • But right now, she wasn't in the mood to listen, least of all to him. She had to take a deep breath to keep from being rude. Meanwhile, he was still clinging to her hands.
  • — Thank you for your attention, but I have to organize my service before traveling. By the way, have you prepared the contracts with the offices I have to carry?
  • — Did you know that you can put your ex-boyfriend in justice for moral damages and still demand compensation? I can take care of everything for you! — He informed her without paying the slightest attention to her question about the contracts, leaving her in disbelief with what she had just heard. He was taking advantage of the situation to win her over.
  • However, she couldn't help but listen to his advice.
  • — Can I really do that?
  • — You must. And you don't have to do anything, I take care of everything for you.
  • — I won't be able to pay you...
  • — It is not necessary. I won't charge you anything, it's for our friendship. We're work friends, aren't we?
  • Until Helena was very tempted to take revenge on Luiz and that bitch from Nubia. It wouldn't exactly be revenge, but justice. But she wasn't given to revenge, and besides, she knew very well what her "work friend's" true intentions were.
  • — Look Roberto, I really appreciate your support, from my heart, but I really need to work and prepare some things before the trip. And I also need some time to process all this and...
  • — You could give me a chance. I've always been in love with you since the day we started working here. Now that the fighter dumped you, I thought it might be my turn now and...
  • — GET OUT OF MY OFFICE, NOW!
  • — But I...
  • — NOW, OTHERWISE I WILL CALL SECURITY!
  • She had to push him out the door. In times of Social Media, news traveled fast. It was less than 24 hours after posting and it seems the whole world knew she had been given a horn. She wanted to die right away, because it was slowly killing her.
  • — Helena!
  • "Oh no!" She knew very well whose voice that was. It's Olga, the former secretary of the company's president, whom she didn't like. The two were always very professional with each other, but they didn't hide their hostility.
  • — How is Olga? — Helena tried to be as kind as possible, which was difficult. It seems that everyone decided to test her patience that very day.
  • — Mr. Shingen want to see you now! — The tone of that woman's voice was already irritating, even more speaking like that, it got even worse. Like everyone else, she was already aware of what happened and of course, she will take advantage of the situation to take you seriously. Once again he had to take a deep breath not to give that witch an answer.
  • — Yes, of course, I'll go and...
  • — It's really good. Mr. Shingen is very irritated by your lack of professionalism.
  • That insult was the last straw. It was not enough that she had been humiliated on Facebook, now being accused of being unprofessional was too much.
  • — Listen here you old bitch, if you have a problem with me, say it soon! — He took advantage of the occasion to vent his wrath and didn't even care about the crowd that formed around him.
  • — I just think that after what your boyfriend did, you shouldn't work here anymore, because we are a serious company!
  • — Oh that's funny, I have to resign because my ex posted on Facebook that he's with another! And if the company is serious, what the fuck are you doing here, huh, you goof?
  • Helena didn't like Olga. After those insults, she started to like it even less. He did not know Nubia, but he felt a deep hatred for her. And of Luiz then, even more.
  • — What's going on here? — A deep voice asked, echoing through the air.
