Chapter 3 After Five Years, The Old Lover Has Yet To Return

  • When Tang Jing was 12 years old, she joked with Bo Cheng that she would marry him when she grew up. She got her wish when she was 22 years old, but in the same year, An Qing entered the picture with a higher standing, and Tang Jing realized then that Bo Cheng was in love with someone else all along.
  • Whereas she was nothing but a cover.
  • An Qing was the person whom he loved, so what was she? She was no one. The night of their wedding, Bo Cheng flew overseas to accompany An Qing on a vacation while Tang Jing sat in the room and waited for him quietly the whole night.
  • Only when the sky was bright the next day did she finally understand that some people would never come back, no matter how long one waited.
  • She went through this marriage alone for five years to understand how painful it was to be bashed and battered, as if walking into a wall.
  • Bo Cheng, I can keep on waiting for you regardless of time and dignity, but this is how you treat me now. What I get in return for five years of marriage is five years in prison. How can you give me back my life that is now in shambles? How?
  • Tang Jing woke up from a bad dream and took numerous deep breaths while holding her palm to her chest. She dreamed about the past again, and it was like a nightmare that she couldn’t wake up from.
  • This memory always resurfaced when she least expected it, and each time it happened, Tang Jing had to go through the same suffering all over again.
  • “Mother, did you have a nightmare again?”
  • Tang Ze fetched a cup of warm milk for her obediently when she awakened. After handing it to her, he asked, “Do you want me to tell you a story?”
  • He was so clever and understanding that it made her feel guilty, and her heart ached.
  • Tang Jing caressed Tang Ze’s face. “Why don't I tell you a story instead? What would you like to hear?”
  • “I don’t want to listen to a story, but if you’d like to, I can tell you one,” Tang Ze replied to Tang Jing. “Uncle told me loads.”
  • The Uncle that Tang Ze mentioned was Tang Jing’s biological older brother. When Tang Jing gave birth in jail previously, her brother fought fearlessly to get Tang Ze out of there.
  • “It’s my fault that I don’t have time to keep you company. Uncle is the best.”
  • Tang Jing placed the cup on the bedside table after drinking the milk. “It’s the weekend tomorrow. Why don’t we go to the amusement park with Uncle?”
  • Tang Ze’s face was a miniature version of Bo Cheng’s, but Bo Cheng’s eyes were too cold, whereas Tang Ze was the opposite, as his eyes were beautiful and very gentle.
  • Despite his young age, Tang Ze understood lots of matters and principles that only adults would, which was why people couldn’t help but feel sorry for him.
  • Tang Ze got excited when Tang Jing mentioned the amusement park. She hugged him close and shut her eyes while breathing deeply.
  • The night was long, and dawn was slow to arrive.
  • The next day when they were heading out, she dressed Tang Ze handsomely. He looked like a cultivated small gentleman, and his appearance made Tang Jing proud and delighted.
  • “There can’t be a girl in this world who wouldn't like our Tang Ze!”
  • “I think so, too!”
  • Tang Ze rubbed his chin quite narcissistically. “It’s my mother’s fault for being too pretty, because that’s where I got my good looks from.”
  • “You are such a sweet-talker. Come on. Let’s go meet your Uncle now.”
  • Tang Jing’s brother, Tang Yi, set up an independent designing studio. He received a big project in the past few days and had been staying overnight in the studio. Tang Jing carried Tang Ze into the car and fastened his seatbelt for him before driving onto the overpass.
  • After Tang Jing got out of jail, Tang Yi took her in, and they had been trying to find out news about their parents while taking care of each other.
  • Tang Jing was once an extraordinary woman who was both gifted and beautiful. When she was young, one of her design drafts impressed the biggest blue chip brand overseas which later invited her to take part in designing the spring couture. Since then, she became sensational and her career had been a smooth sail.
  • Meeting Bo Cheng was a tragedy in her life. She was such a proud person, yet because of him, she ended up as a mortifying joke.
  • Five years in prison was just a chance to start over. No one would be able to take away her determination!
  • She took on a new stage name and set up the studio with her brother. She had a comfortable life now, and although she was not wealthy, there were no difficulties in providing for Tang Ze.
  • Tang Jing was grateful that she wasn’t an ignorant and good-for-nothing child from a rich family. She was smart and talented, so she could always start over.
  • Bo Cheng took away five years of her life, but she wouldn’t let him destroy anything else!
  • Tang Jing turned on the radio in the car when she was driving, and Tang Ze started switching the channels. They turned to one that was coincidentally reporting news related to Bo Cheng—
  • “According to reliable sources, Young Master Bo, Bo Cheng, will be coming to Lan Town at the end of this month to join forces with the Ye Group. Both of these companies went public five years ago, and they are currently rich in capital and thriving financially…”
  • Tang Ze switched it off abruptly before the news report ended.
  • Tang Jing was stunned. “Hmm… You don't like it?”
  • “I don’t like it,” Tang Ze replied without missing a beat. “That Bo Cheng is my father, right?”
  • What to do when my kid is too smart? Will he be dumber after a beating? Can anyone tell me what I should do?
  • Tang Jing smiled mirthlessly. “How did you…”
  • “How did I know?” Tang Ze pointed at himself. “Mommy, I’ve seen his face in the news on the television. Now look at mine.”
  • It turned out that even a five-year-old could answer whether they were related as father and son!
  • Tang Jing glanced at Tang Ze before uttering, “To prevent Bo Cheng from luring you back one day, I have decided to bring you overseas during this New Year for some plastic surgery.”
  • “It’s useless. If Young Master Bo wants to identify me, he will check my DNA, of course,” Tang Ze replied.
  • Damn it! How is my son so smart? It puts so much pressure on me as a mother!
  • Tang Jing smiled awkwardly. “Haha, you’re so smart.”
  • After a while, Tang Ze spoke slowly. “Mother, you don’t have to worry. I won’t leave with him.”
  • Tang Jing almost applied the emergency brake. She turned to look at Tang Ze while her hands on the steering wheel started trembling. “Why did you say that out of the blue?” she asked.
  • Tang Ze looked at Tang Jing solemnly. “I just want to be by your side. I don’t want anyone else, not even my dad.”
  • Tang Jing’s eyes turned red. “You little brat, who taught you that?”
  • Tang Ze betrayed his alliance in a heartbeat. “Uncle taught me this method to make you happy. He said that I’ll even get some snacks.”
  • Tang Jing honked her horn loudly. Damn you, brother! Give me back my touching moment!
  • After 20 minutes, the three of them gathered at the entrance of the amusement park, and Tang Yi held Tang Ze’s hand to buy the tickets while Tang Jing waited alone at the entrance. She looked at the backs of the duo’s tall and short figures with a smile.
  • Just then, a black Maybach drove past behind them—
  • Bo Cheng's sight locked onto something, and he ordered the chauffeur abruptly, “Stop the car!”
  • The chauffeur hit the brakes and asked, “Young Master Bo, what is it…”
  • When Bo Cheng turned around again, the figure he saw earlier was gone from the broad stretch of road.
  • Was I mistaken… Why did I suddenly feel that view of the back looked so much like hers?
  • Bo Cheng shut his eyes agitatedly and took a deep breath before ordering, “Keep going.”
  • “Yes…” The chauffeur started driving again, whereas Bo Cheng leaned against the car seat, his gaze unfocused and fuzzy.
  • It's been five years. Why do I still recall the view of her back?
