Chapter 14 There Is a Kind of Love in This World Called Blind Love

  • Before Noah could even finish his words, Edward turned around and lifted his eyes slightly, glancing at the former. A touch of harshness flashed before his eyes.
  • Noticing his glare, Noah shrugged his shoulders as if he wasn’t bothered by it and twitched the corners of his lips. Just when he was about to turn around, he heard a frosty voice behind him. “I don’t want a third person to find out about her.”
  • As soon as he heard that, he turned on his heel and nodded at Edward before he left.
  • Edward stood in the silent corridor for a moment. His hand slipped into his pocket to pull out a cigarette pack. Almost opening the packaging, he suddenly remembered that he was still in the hospital. Therefore, he threw it into the trash can by the side without hesitation. When he drew his hand back, he saw the teeth marks that were still clearly imprinted on his hand. His handsome face darkened slightly at the sight as his gaze deepened.
  • Nevertheless, because Charles was alone in the ward, Edward didn’t stay outside for long but quickly walked toward the ward. Going back thinking that Charles was already fast asleep, he did not expect to see the little one tilting his head and staring at him when he came in.
  • “Why are you still awake?”
  • As soon as the words came out, Edward was suddenly overcome by incomprehensible helplessness. He, who had never spent time with children, felt a little perturbed when facing his son.
  • “I was waiting for you.”
  • Based on the only two times that they had been left alone together recently, Edward could tell that Charles hadn’t accepted him yet. It was proved by the most important fact that Charles never called him ‘Daddy’ when they were alone. However, perhaps due to their blood ties, or his longing for a father-son bond, Edward loved talking to Charles, even if the latter didn’t want to call him ‘Daddy’.
  • “Is something wrong?” Edward tried his best to remain collected.
  • “I want to chat with you,” said Charles as he stared and frowned at his father solemnly.
  • Chat?
  • Arching an eyebrow, Edward didn’t think that there was anything they could talk about when his son was so weak.
  • “Do you like my mommy?” Charles didn’t seem to need an answer from Edward at all. Straightaway, he went on with his question.
  • As soon as Edward heard the question, his brows furrowed in discontentment. He had a hunch that that pretentious woman must have indoctrinated Charles with some thoughts. He didn’t expect she would make him ask this question so quickly.
  • The more he thought about it, the faster his face darkened. It seemed like his idea of bringing Charles away with him was right.
  • “Fine. I know the answer,” said Charles calmly.
  • For a moment, Edward noticed that his son wasn’t talking anymore. So, he looked toward Charles confusedly but was surprised to find the little one staring at him with his big, bright eyes.
  • “Is there anything else you want to ask?”
  • Charles nodded but quickly shook his head again.
  • Edward didn’t understand what he meant. Nonetheless, when he remembered the operation tomorrow, he said, “I’ll give you time to ask after the operation.” Then, he thought Charles wouldn’t agree since this was how children nowadays behaved. He thought his son wouldn’t listen to him and would continue pestering him.
  • “Okay.”
  • Unexpectedly, Charles only said that calmly and closed his eyes immediately. He really didn’t say anything more.
  • Edward was surprised by his reaction. Although this was only the third time they met, Edward could sense that Charles was more precocious than other children his age.
  • No wonder Grandma loves him so much.
  • Just when he thought Charles really wouldn’t talk anymore, he heard him muttering softly again.
  • “Actually, Mommy is very nice. Why don’t you like her?”
  • Why? Do I still need a reason to hate that woman? That pretentious woman set me up back then because she wanted to become the young mistress of the Barnett Family. You want me to like her? Impossible.
  • Nevertheless, Edward had no intention of letting Charles find out about his thoughts.
  • “Actually, my mommy is very gentle, generous, courageous, brilliant, strong, easygoing… She has countless desirable features. Why would you not like her?”
  • Upon hearing Charles’ question, Edward looked at him subconsciously. He found out that when the little one was praising that woman, he actually looked very proud. Quickly, Edward turned his head and looked out the window. He really didn’t want to hurt his son.
  • “There is a kind of love in this world called blind love!”
  • How can that woman fit into any of those adjectives Charlie used to describe her? In his opinion, there was only one word that could sum up her personality: pretentious!
  • “You… will regret it!” Charles pouted unhappily. “But, since you don’t like Mommy, you guys should get a divorce.”
  • “What?”
  • For a moment, Edward thought his ears had deceived him. However, when he observed his son’s expression, he knew he was right.
  • “Do you know what divorce means?”
  • “Don’t treat me like a child.” Charles frowned, and his lips pouted deeper. He would look extremely adorable if his face wasn’t so pale.
  • “You are a child. I don’t need to treat you like one.”
  • Edward felt like he just had a whole new understanding of his son. Charles right now didn’t seem to distance himself from him like earlier. At this moment, he felt like they were actually talking like a father-son duo.
  • “You really don’t like Mommy?” Charles asked again. It seemed like he didn’t want to give up yet.
  • “Your mommy doesn’t like me either! She even bit me!” Edward huffed. When he saw his hand that was bit and grazed by Summer, his heart boiled with rage.
  • Unlike him, as soon as Charles heard that, his eyes lit up instantly. Mommy bit him? That’s interesting. Pulling his mouth slightly, he remained calm and said, “That’s why I support you guys getting a divorce.”
  • Right after he said that, he closed his eyes again. This time, he really didn’t go on to say anything else and fell asleep after a short while.
  • Divorce? Staring at his son’s sleeping face, Edward couldn’t help but feel sudden anxiety. Why do I feel so out of breath hearing the word ‘divorce’ coming out from the mouth of a three-year-old kid?
  • Still, because of the surgery tomorrow, he didn’t consider it too much. Swiftly, he lay down on the empty bed beside Charles’ and fell asleep.
  • It was a surprisingly dreamless night!
  • The next morning, Rosie came to the ward accompanied by Sebastian. However, Summer had, of course, arrived earlier than them.
  • “Charlie, did you rest well last night?” Rosie sat on the edge of the bed, looking at Charles lovingly as she asked.
  • Charles nodded and smiled before he answered, “Great-Grandma, I slept very well last night.”
  • “Hmm. That’s good. After you get into the operation room, take a nap. You will be fine by the time you come out.”
  • “Great-Grandma, after I get better, I’ll take you to travel around the world. This is my promise to you, and I’ll make sure to fulfill it.”
  • His adorable promise couldn’t help but warm Rosie’s heart.
  • All this while, Summer had been sitting next to Charles. Everyone’s attention was on him, and no one had noticed Edward at all. Although Summer wanted to go up and say something, she quickly changed her mind when she remembered their relationship. She didn’t want him to get fed up by the sight of her.
  • “Summer, Edward and Charlie are entering the operation room soon. Go help the doctor take Edward’s pulse.”
  • When the doctor began to prepare Charles for the surgery, Rosie suddenly spoke up, ordering Summer to do the same for Edward.
  • Immediately, Summer was troubled. Speak of the devil?
