Chapter 5 Kevin Will Honor The Will Of The Moon Goddess

  • KEVIN’S POV
  • I was waiting for my drink when I sensed someone’s stare. The urge to turn around and look was so strong, almost as if I was drawn by an invisible force.
  • I sucked in my breath when my eyes landed on the gorgeous girl in front of me. She was the one who had dominated my thoughts all this while. In the long, black gown she looked like the moon goddess had descended on earth wrapped in the star-studded sky.
  • I walked towards her as if my body had a mind of its own. I inhaled deeply as the distinct fragrance of pine and cherries assaulted me. The scent calmed and comforted an ache in my heart which I didn’t know was present.
  • Four words popped in my mind the moment our eyes met, ‘Mate, love, protect, honor.’
  • The urge to hold her in my arms was so great that I couldn’t restrain myself from pulling her into an embrace.
  • The moment I hugged her, contentment and bliss washed over me. It was as if I had found the other half of my soul. If I could just spend the rest of my life like this, I would consider myself lucky.
  • The moment was broken when Risha Pulled my mate away and shouted, “Kiara! How dare you!”
  • Slap! A cracking sound boomed as Risha slapped Kiara hard across her face.
  • My eyes turned red and a growl escaped my throat. I grabbed Risha by her shoulders and roared, “How dare YOU slap my mate?”
  • The color drained from her face and her jaws hung open. Her eyes darted between Kiara and me as she whispered, “Mate.”
  • Sensing the commotion Dad, Mom, Sandy, and Cami came rushing. Dad pulled me away and demanded an explanation.
  • I placed my arm on Kiara’s shoulder and took a protective stance beside her. Looking straight into my father’s eyes, I announced, “Kiara is my mate. No one is allowed to insult her, not even Risha!”
  • Silence hung in the air long after I made the announcement. My mate’s entry turned out to be a bit dramatic and everyone seemed a bit at a loss.
  • “No! Not her! She can’t be your MATE!” Risha shouted abruptly.
  • My mom glared at her but she continued, “You have no idea how hateful and insensitive Kiara is. She will make my brother’s life a living hell. He should reject her right away.”
  • My blood boiled at her statement. It took every ounce of my willpower to restrain myself from snapping at Risha.
  • “Risha! Enough!” Father’s furious voice boomed. “This is not a joke. As the future alpha of the mystical pack, my son Kevin will honor the will of Moon Goddess.”
  • I placed my hand on my chest and bowed. I cast a sideward glance at Kiara but she didn’t take the hint and stood there stiff as a log. Probably she didn’t know about our customs.
  • I heard faint murmurs about the lack of her etiquette. I was wondering how I could distract them when Dad spoke up, “Kiara, isn’t it? What is your full name?”
  • “It is just Kiara.” Her dry reply stunned me. I stole a glance at Kiara to find that her face was stoic; as if nothing in this world mattered to her.
  • Dad cleared his throat and tried again, “Who is your Alpha?”
  • “I don’t know.”
  • “Tell me the name of your pack.”
  • “Don’t know.”
  • I could see that my father was on the verge of losing his temper. The veins on his forehead threatened to pop out. I had no idea how long he could tolerate her insolent behavior.
  • I placed my hand gently on her shoulder and said, “Fine… just tell us about your parents.”
  • She shrugged off my hand and said in a bland tone, “I don’t want to talk about them.”
  • I felt like tearing my hair. Why was she being so difficult?
  • The tinkling sound of a goblet drew my attention. My mother was standing with a goblet of wine in her hand. She smiled sweetly and said, “Andrew we can do the introductions later. Let us not make the poor girl feel like she is being interrogated. She is your daughter-in-law and not some criminal.”
  • My father chuckled and raised his shoulders, “My bad. He picked up another glass from the tray and held it up saying, “I propose this toast to the newest member of our family, Kiara…ummm… just Kiara…”
  • “Give it to her…” Father said, handing the goblet to Cami.
  • Kiara crossed her hand over her chest and looked at the goblet distastefully. “TBH… I am not interested in any of this stupidity.”
  • I felt like a dagger had pierced through my heart. How could she call our bond ‘stupid’?
  • Cami smiled at Kiara and explained, “When the Future Alpha of a pack finds his mate, it is customary for his father to raise a toast. The mate of the Future Alpha is supposed to drink it.”
  • Kiara snorted and raised her shoulders. “So!? What should I do?”
  • Cami thrust the goblet into Kiara’s hand and explained patiently, “You are Kevin’s mate… so you should drink this…”
  • She raised her eyebrows and muttered, “I don’t want to.”
  • I was too stunned by Kiara’s adamant nature and couldn’t figure out what to say or do. I stood there still like a statue.
  • “Kiara, don’t talk like that… it will bring bad luck… come on drink it…” Cami insisted.
  • Splash! The next moment Kiara threw the drink at Cami. A loud gasp escaped her mouth. “Gosh! No! You have ruined my mother’s favorite dress.”
  • She looked at me with a pained expression and ran away covering her face. I was about to follow her when I heard Kiara say, “What! Didn’t I say I will not drink… it means I WON’T. She didn’t have to force me…”
  • “How can you be so insensitive, Kiara. That dress is the only belonging of her mother that she has left.” Risha said with a glare.
  • I could see regret flash in her eyes as she said, “I didn’t know that…” Just when I thought that my mate was not bad, a cruel smile played on her lips. “Anyways, I don’t think that would have changed the way I reacted.”
  • “How can you?” The words escaped my mouth before I could restrain myself.
  • She smiled weakly at me and said, “I am capable of doing things that you would shudder to imagine.”
  • My heart skipped a beat at that statement. I was about to ask her what she meant when she started walking towards the exit.
  • Almost reflexively, I started following her but the next words that came out of her mouth made me halt in my steps.
  • “I hope we never meet again…”
  • I felt like someone had stabbed me with a million knives all at once. My knees buckled and I fell to the ground. I sat there wallowing in grief as my mind replayed her last sentence over and over again.
