  • My breath hitched, and I started struggling when Jude stepped on the first stair. The figure at the door slid through it, and I bristled at who stood there. Etienne was clutching his chest and breathing heavily, but he was alive and on his feet.
  • The knife Jude had dropped flew to Eti, and he jerked back when it missed his head and went through the glass of the door.
