Chapter 5

  • Randall POV
  • I have read for the tenth time the same sentence of some book I have borrowed, making me feel irritated because I couldn’t even focus on the smallest of the tasks such as reading.
  • Feeling irritated, I closed the book and tossed it on the bed, walking out of my room into the hallway.
  • ‘I’ve had enough of this crap.’ I said to myself as I walked towards Hilda’s room, knowing well she is there after I’ve denied her attempt to jump onto me once again this morning.
  • I couldn’t understand what was wrong with me, but something was different.
  • Shaking away my gloomy thoughts, I reached Hilda’s door, raising my hand into the air about to knock on it, but I stopped when I heard a muffled unfamiliar voice coming from the inside of her room.
  • Putting my hand down as I took a step closer, I leaned towards the door, trying to figure out who the voice belonged to as I was listening to their conversation.
  • “Just do as I told you.”
  • I heard a dark, unfamiliar voice say, making a frown appear on my face as I wondered what they were talking about.
  • “Are you sure about it?” It was Hilda’s voice coming from behind the closed door.
  • I held my breath, listening intently to what they were saying.
  • “Yes, the time has come. Now all you need to do is start with the next phase and do not mess this up!”
  • “I won’t!” Hilda answered.
  • “We are not alone…” I heard the dark voice say, snapping me out of my state, hearing a shuffling of feet approaching the door.
  • I raised my hand up just in time when the door opened.
  • “Randall? What are you doing here?” Hilda looked at me with a raised eyebrow.
  • I couldn’t help my curiosity, so I pushed past her and walked inside her room, looking around it only to find it empty.
  • ‘Strange.’ I thought to myself.
  • “What is the meaning of this, Randall?” I heard Hilda’s agitated voice.
  • Turning away from her dresser, I looked at her, standing there near the open door with her arms crossed over her chest as she was watching me.
  • ‘Was that fear she is trying to hide in her eyes?’ I wondered.
  • Since I have not answered her, but instead stood there, watching her, I realized my mistake as she must have misinterpreted my reason for coming to her room.
  • I watched her sway her hips as she approached me, placing her hands onto my chest she slowly slid them up, reaching up, until her arms were wrapped around my neck.
  • “Did you come into my room hoping I’ll forgive you because you rejected me again?” Her eyes were dark as she asked me seductively.
  • Just the thought of it made me uncomfortable, making me frown as I shook away my head, saying; “No.”
  • Reaching up with my hands, I grabbed her wrists and detached myself from her.
  • A frown appeared on her face, as she was feeling rejected once again.
  • “What is wrong? Why are you repeatedly rejecting me? Am I not attractive to you anymore?” Anger filled her voice with a hint of hurt behind her words as she looked up at me and asked the question.
  • Ignoring her questions, I looked at her with my narrowed eyes, asking; “Who were you talking with?”
  • Her eyes widened in surprise, but she composed herself in the next second, turning her back to me as she walked towards her dresser.
  • “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She said, picking up a piece of her jewelry, giving it her full attention as she looked at it.
  • Taking a step towards her, I grabbed her arms, turning her towards me, making her collide with my chest as a gasp left her lips.
  • “I heard you talk with someone in here, so don’t try to play me for a fool.” My voice was low as I held my intense stare locked with her darkened eyes.
  • “You must have heard me talking to myself then, nothing else.” She said, pressing herself into me.
  • I kept my face emotionless, not showing her anything but a stone-cold face I held. I said; “There was another voice coming out from your room.”
  • “I was only practicing some magic, and that is all.” Her palm pressed onto my cheek, caressing it while her eyes softened and filled with concern, looking at me. She said; “You’re making me worry. I guess the side effects from your injury haven’t fully vanished yet.”
  • I was taken back by her words, slowly starting to doubt what I heard was real or my mind was playing a trick on me?
  • “Side effects?” I said, my eyebrow arching up as she nodded her head, letting a deep troubled breath out loudly.
  • A movement in the mirror made me tear my eyes away from Hilda and look at the mirror only to see everything looked normal, but I was sure I saw something moving a moment ago inside there.
  • “Randall?” She called my name, but I didn’t look at her as my eyes were set in the mirror.
  • ‘Strange… I’m almost certain I saw something in there.’ I thought to myself, having my focus set on the mirror.
  • “What are you looking at?” Her voice came worried as she asked me.
  • I glanced down at her for a second before I looked back into the mirror, answering; “I thought I saw something move in the mirror.”
  • Her eyebrows raised as she heard my answer. She turned her head and looked at the mirror, frowning for a second before she turned back towards me.
  • She placed her palms onto my cheeks, forcing me to look down at her as she said; “I think you're imagining things. It’s just a mirror, nothing else there.”
  • Taking a deep breath, I let it out slowly as I said; “I guess, anyway I came here because I wanted to say thank you for nursing me back to health but I’ll be taking my leave and returning to my home now.”
  • She was speechless for a moment, then I saw her eyes sparkle with joy as a smile appeared on her lips. She said with excitement; “Wonderful!”
  • I watched her in confusion, surprised by her reaction as she walked away from me towards her dresser.
  • I stood there looking at her while she picked from the dresser some books she held there, carrying them to her bed. “I wanted to actually suggest we could go tomorrow or anytime you're ready. I’m sure you have plenty of work waiting for you and I’m bored of being here.”
  • “You’re bored?” I asked her in disbelief.
  • “Yes, I can’t wait to see once again my dear friends, and see how they are.” She answered, running around her room and collecting things, bringing them to her bed.
  • “Friends?” I asked, hardly believing a word she was saying.
  • She placed some things on her bed and looked up at me, crossing her arms over her chest, saying; “Yes, friends. Do you have a problem with me having friends?”
  • Shrugging my shoulders I answered; “Whatever pleases you. I don’t care.”
  • Anger filled her features as she looked at me with blazing eyes; “Of course you don’t care, you never cared about me, that is why you keep on rejecting me for days!”
  • I was exhausted by this drama, by her drama, so I tried to calm down my already boiling anger that came from feeling irritated by her act before I said anything.
  • Taking a deep breath, closing my eyes as I counted to 10 inside my head, I looked at her as she was throwing daggers with her piercing dark eyes. I said; “I don’t want to fight and we have not once talked about us and there is no us, nor ever will be us. We are just friends who occasionally sleep with each other and nothing more than that.”
  • A snort came out from her lips as she said; “Then why do you keep on rejecting me? You never rejected me before.”
  • I wish I knew the answer to this question myself and I was more frustrated about it than her. For fuck’s sake, I never said no to sex, so why the hell am I rejecting every chance I get a woman throwing herself onto me.
  • Rubbing my face with my hand, feeling drained already from all this drama, I looked at her and said; “I’m just tired. After all, didn’t you just say I’m still suffering from potential side effects after my injury?”
  • She closed her mouth, unable to find words to answer me. I turned away and walked towards the door, hearing her calling my name; “Randall?”
  • Placing my hand on the handle, I turned my head slightly to the side, saying; “If you wish to go to my land, then be ready to leave early in the morning, tomorrow.”
  • Not waiting for her reply, I pressed onto a handle and opened the door, leaving her alone in the room.
  • For some strange reason, unknown to me, I stood there in the hallway, in front of her closed doors, waiting for something I didn’t know what for.
  • Then I heard Hilda’s voice, whispering;
  • “How am I supposed to make it work if he keeps on rejecting me?”
  • I waited to see if I would hear the same voice from before, as the tension filled every inch of my body, but then I heard it.
  • The same dark, dangerous voice said; “Seduce him, making him fall for you.”
  • “But he doesn’t trust me anymore, I can see it clear as a day.” I could barely hear Hilda’s reply as she continued to whisper.
  • “Then make him trust you because you cannot lose him! He is too important.” The dark voice said in a tone that left no place for rejection, as it said.
  • “What are you doing?”
