Chapter 3

  • Nerissa POV
  • “Nerissa?”
  • I heard my name as Allister walked inside the room, looking at me like he couldn’t believe I was awake as he stood there for a moment before I saw him rush by my side.
  • “How are you feeling?” Allister asked me with worry clear in his voice as his hand caressed my cheek while his eyes looked tense as he examined me for any sign of discomfort and pain.
  • I looked up at him, placing my palm over his, trying to reassure him that I was fine when Emily stood up and said, “Maybe I should go and leave you two alone.”
  • Allister and I both looked at her like we had forgotten that she was in the room with us, which made my cheeks flush red, feeling slightly embarrassed.
  • Emily smiled at me, adding; “I’ll see you later then.”
  • Giving her a small smile, I said, “Thank you… for everything.”
  • I watched her turn away and walk out of the room, making me turn my focus back to Allister.
  • Before he could say anything I said, “I’m fine, no need to worry.”
  • I heard him take in a deep breath as he wrapped me in a tight hug, hurrying his face in my neck as he said in a muffled voice; “You have no idea how worried you made me… made us.”
  • I didn’t know what else to say except; “I’m sorry.”
  • He pulled away from me and looked me into my eyes.
  • “You have nothing to apologize for, little one.” He said, cupping my cheeks as he kept his intense gaze locked with mine. “How are you feeling? Is anything hurting you?”
  • Trying to give him an honest answer, I took a moment to analyze any pain before I answered him. “Just a little but I’m fine, so please stop worrying.”
  • A frown appeared on his face as he heard my answer, making me squirm under his gaze as he said; “Where does it hurt you?”
  • Placing my palm above my chest as I answered; “Just slightly in my chest, but I told you I’m fine and stop worrying so much.”
  • I heard him exhale deeply as he placed his forehead on mine. I felt his warm breath tickling my skin as he said; “You know that is impossible to do, Nerissa. Your my mate and I love you and I’ll always worry about you because I care for you more than I do for myself.”
  • I knew it was impossible to argue about that with him so I gave up and said; “I know.”
  • I felt his lips press onto my forehead as he slowly moved away.
  • “What happened after I passed out?” My curiosity took the better of me as I was fast to ask him the question.
  • Allister moved away, climbing in bed with me, as his arms wrapped around me, pulling me into his chest.
  • I placed my head above his strong beating heart, hearing his deep voice as he said; “From what we got to know is, you passed out because of the curse that activated, falling upon us because…”
  • I swallowed as I listened to him speak, as guilt rose inside of my chest.
  • My voice was a whisper as I finished the thought he left unspoken; “Because I decided I didn’t want to choose between the two of you.”
  • His chest rose up as he took a deep breath, his hand reached my chin making me look up at him as he said; “Little one, neither does Alex, nor I blame you for anything. We could have chosen ourselves to accept your decision or not.”
  • I looked at him in silence as he continued to speak; “We choose to stay and accept the fact that we have to share, but we both did that because we both love you that much.”
  • My eyes teared up as I listened to his speech, asking myself silently how did I ever get this lucky to have such understanding mates as these two.
  • A small tear escaped my eye, and I felt his thumb brush it away as he gently said; “Don’t cry, little one.”
  • I couldn’t help myself, feeling the guilt building up because no one else was to be blamed for this situation but for me only.
  • “But the curse…” my voice broke as I hiccuped.
  • “Don’t worry about the curse, we will find a way to fix everything.” He said gently, making me wonder if there is any way to fix this situation.
  • My brows furrowed as I looked at him confused, asking; “H-how can we fix it? It’s a curse not the flu, Allister.”
  • Chuckling, he kept his eyes on me, looking at me gently as he said; “I know it’s not the flu, but Annaya said that there might be a way to do it.”
  • My head snapped up as I looked at him. Feeling curious by his words, I asked; “What way?”
  • He shrugged his large shoulders as he said; “I don’t know. She went back to try and to find anything she can do more about this curse and if there is a way to break it.”
  • I felt slight hope inside my heart at the possibility to fix this mess I’ve made as I silently watched at Allister.
  • The door opened, making us turn around and see Alex standing in a doorway, rushing over as his eyes watched me filled with worry and tension.
  • Before he could ask me the same question Allister did, I beat him to it, saying; “I’m fine as I told the same to Allister so please stop worrying.”
  • A frown appeared on his face as he looked from me to Allister, saying; “You had to be a jackass, as you couldn’t let me know that she is awake, but I had to hear it from Emily, did you?”
  • Allister shrugged his shoulders as he said; “I was planning to call you over in a minute. I just wanted a minute alone with her. Can you blame me?”
  • Before they could start arguing, I moved away from Allister and grabbed Alex by his hand, gaining his attention, and I gestured for him to sit down next to me as I scooted to be in the middle of the two.
  • As Alex sat down in bed, he leaned over and placed a kiss on my cheek, saying; “I’m glad that you’re awake.”
  • I gave him a smile, leaning closer and kissing his cheek, making Allister snort.
  • Turning my head, I saw Allister pout as a child, making me arch my eyebrow at him as I asked; “What’s wrong?”
  • He looked at me as he said; “Why is it that he gets a kiss and I don’t?”
  • Alex snickered, making me smack his shoulder before I lean closer to Allister, about to kiss his cheek.
  • Allister had a different plan, and before I could realize what he was doing, I felt his palms cup my cheeks as he pressed his lips over mine.
  • “Figures,” Alex mumbled.
  • Soon as Allister’s lips moved from mine, Allister looked over at Alex and smirked; “Jealous?”
  • Alex chuckled as he shook his head away; “I’ll say yes only if that will earn me another kiss.” He winked at me as he said that, making me blush instantly.
  • Clearing my throat as I tried to shake away the heat that was building up inside of me, I looked at them both and said; “Can we stop bickering and this macho competition as who gets more kisses and bla bla, whatever nonsense, and actually get to the actual important things?”
  • They both looked at me, smirking when Allister asked me; “Can you blame us for wanting you?”
  • My mouth fell open as I looked at Allister with wide eyes, not knowing what to say.
  • “I-it’s not that…” I tried to say but was lacking words when Alex asked; “Then what is it? I’m sure you are equally eager to kiss us as we are to kiss you.”
  • “I-I” I couldn’t think of any normal sentence as my mind was cloudy with building desire, making it hard for me to think clearly.
  • I saw their eyes turn a shade darker as they looked at me without blinking. Devouring me with their eyes, making it hard for me to breathe as the heat was rushing through me.
  • I could feel their hands reach over to me, making the tingles erupt all over my body as I tried to remember what I wanted to say.
  • I watched them turning towards me, leaning closer, and I knew they were about to kiss me all over when one word woke me up from my desire-filled state, making me move away from their reach with a raised hand.
  • “No, we better stop,” I said, breathing heavily.
  • Their eyes cleared as they looked at me with worry. Alex asked; “What’s wrong? Are you feeling pain?”
  • “No, I mean, yes, a little, but that is not why we need to stop.” I tried to find my words.
  • “What is it, little one?” Allister asked, looking at me with worry.
  • “You said that Annaya went back to find answers, right?” I said, thinking back to his words.
  • “Yes, why?” Allister asked, looking confused as he tried to see where I was going with my question.
  • Taking in a deep breath, I looked at them both and said, “I want to go and meet with her and see if she found anything to help us out.”
