Chapter 28

  • Mia’s POV
  • Ever since, years ago, when my twin sister had rescued that little human girl Hazel had I known there was going to be some oncoming tough times. We had all gone out to fight against the humans that were hell bent on wiping away our pack. The moment we — Lia and I — were born, we had started our mission. We were the rarest kind of twins, and were only found amongst werewolves every half of a millennium. History had it that we were the direct offspring of the Moon Goddess, but we didn’t know that — my sister and I. Though, we never disputed it and somehow thought they might be right because we were the only ones who had this strong, steady connection and undisputed relationship with the Moon Goddess, she told us almost everything and let us know her plans towards the werewolves, including werewolves from other packs, our vision were not limited. We knew things before they happened, and saw the past. Even events that were already taking place in our absence, they were always revealed to us. But we never told anyone, never revealed any without the permission of the Moon Goddess. It had always been a hard task for Lia and I, right from when our powers got more intense — which had been from when we were six year old pups. We’d see things and somehow always knew from that young age we were never to tell anyone. The Moon Goddess had always communicated with us. Sometimes, when we had dreams or a peculiar vision, she would personally ask us not to say or if she didn’t, she’d make us forget it. From the moment we were born, the evidence of the birth of what werewolves called ‘Children of the Goddess’ alerted our people to the special twins. We came to the world with a luminous crescent engraved in our both palms, but as we grew older, it slowly disappeared and engraved itself at the top left of our backs, close to our shoulders — but it was no longer a crescent but a full moon. People always came to us for help, advice or fortune telling, it was always a difficult task, not because we didn’t already know their fate but the Moon Goddess would strictly instruct us not to reveal and it made them despise us most of the times, by extension, some would call us fake. But we got used to it. The frustration, the anger, the disappointment, the annoyed glares and cold shoulders, Lia and I got used to them all. We had no choice, we couldn’t reveal when the Moon Goddess was firmly against it even though she’d made it known to us. Though the one thing she’d never allow is to let anyone be in grave danger and not save them, or heal a seriously sick or wounded werewolf. We might not tell them what’s going to happen or what might happen but we always tried to save them if it was an imminent danger. This had been our ways, and there was one condition — no mates for us. And I guess the Moon Goddess created us to never wish for one because love and mates had never occurred to Lia and I, we were very content with our single lives. We helped people find their mates, but we’ve never wished to have ours. It was clear our purpose of being born was to help our kind and serve as a protection to those around us. We were forever bound by the rules and guidance of the Moon Goddess, even after the passing on of my Lia, I still continued in the way we were created to be. And it was because of this unwavering obedience and strict adherence that I couldn’t reveal what was about to happen in the household of the Alpha, my distant nephew. His life was going to undergo some radical… Or most precisely put, his life was already undergoing some radical changes that would cause him to lose people dear to him, to battle with the feeling of betrayal from these said people. The Alpha would need a lot of strength and courage, not that he didn’t have them, but this was different. In a very life changing way, it was. He was going to find new routes, make amends, right the many wrongs of our people. Hazel had stumbled upon his life for a reason, she had manipulated the Alpha's mind from killing The girl — not directly but through the power that lay within the poor human girl. I could feel her energy from here, it was weak and I could sense her fear. I had intentionally stayed away because I didn’t want her to get used to me always being there because the battles that lay ahead, was all hers to war and conquer. She was strong and she had what it takes to make the Alpha less ruthless than he was, to build the spirit of tenderness in him. Not that he was wicked but he was rough around the edges, he was like a double-edged sword that sliced even before it kissed the skin. The people respected him out of fear, and though I knew his heart to be void of evil, it wasn’t enough to convince the people otherwise, hence the presence of Hazel in his life. He didn't know this and I couldn’t tell him, just as there were some shocking truths I wasn’t allowed to reveal to him yet, even Hazel, I had to lie, to make her believe I had lied to her but it had been the wish of the Moon Goddess, and it was reason best known only to her. My body tingled, a sign that Lia wanted to reach out from the world where she was waiting for me to come join her so we’d go back to meet the Moon Goddess together, just as we’d come. Already in a trance, my body drifted to meet hers halfway through the realm.
