Chapter 25

  • Alpha Arthur’s POV
  • It was already late, probably deep into the night. I was tired and needed rest, but there was no way to rest. Something was going on in my pack. The beginning of something inexplicably fishy was approaching, and I was still in the dark. I didn’t know who was planning what. I need to find that servant, Zara. She was the key that unlocked the presence of these undefined mysteries. She started this chain, and I didn’t know who could have helped her escape except for the other inmate whose identity had been known; her name was Meaidan. A werewolf of the lower class who had committed a grave offense, homicide. Her case had to be paused due to some external trouble I had to battle, temporarily forgetting her case. I hadn't even realized she was the inmate I had ordered to be taken to the other cell because, after the release of the human girl and the other two inmates, I had to order her transfer. Why was she released too? Was she working for the same person? Was she a betrayer of her own pack? Who was the mastermind behind this? My anger grew; I had no answer to these questions, and it irked me more than before. The safety of my pack was at risk if I couldn’t figure out who the enemy was. Or was it truly Alpha Lokris? He was my greatest enemy; he’d made it his life’s work to constantly try to bring me down.
  • When my father, the last Alpha, had died, he’d seen that as an opportunity to cause trouble for my pack; even on the day he was buried, he’d launched an undeserved attack on my men, who’d been placed around the borders to watch. The man was a greedy werewolf who used whatever means he could to get what he wanted, even if it wasn’t his. If he was the one who started this, I needed to be sure. It was time I put an end to all of his malicious plans and devices. Thank the moon goddess; he wasn’t aware of Hazel yet and what she could do. If he found out what her presence in the pack meant, then it was going to be a bloody war. Which was why I needed to find this Zara. She could be his spy. My men said they had not seen her cross, meaning she was still in this pack, but where? Where was she hiding? She must not succeed in getting to Alpha Lokris if he's truly the one she was working for. My men are still on the lookout for her. Her being in Hazel’s room was another issue, and I also needed to know who had released her and Meaidan. Hazel was my cure; she was my chance—the only chance the Moon Goddess had given me, and I must not lose it. She was my hope for continuing my legacy. And for Hazel, I hope it won’t take her long to heal me and let me be rid of her. She caused me great discomfort. The rumors are spreading like wildfire now. Though no one has been able to talk to me about it, it’s like they’re scared of being proved wrong or rebuked. But I can no longer keep it; they are my people, and I understood their fears. Maybe I’ll talk to one of the pack elders, a very close friend of my late father. He’ll understand and find a way to lessen the rumors until everything is set right.
