Chapter 18

  • The Luna, Dizane’s POV
  • I had my suspicions. The Alpha was hiding something from me that was very unlike him. I knew all was not fine with him, and it has been ever since that human girl was brought into our midst. Those stupid humans were always causing chaos wherever they went. But what was troubling me was the fact that he was keeping this from me; that had never happened. I am his Luna; I am his wife; I am his companion. It was my role to help and support him, to know what ails him, and to help him get better from this strange ailment. It has always been our way. We cared deeply for each other. We might not have been matched for each other, but we were good for each other. We blended well. So well, it made me forget that I didn’t have a mate until he came my way. It had been an attraction at first sight, and the other feelings had just followed suit. He'd said he wanted me and was enthralled by my character, which held so much strength and principle. Some called me a demon with fairy wings. That my beauty was a lure that brought the end of wanton men I had no wings, but I agreed with the demon's description. I was made of steel, spine, and stoicism.
  • I was ruthless when I wanted to be, but not as ruthless as my Alpha. I always let him have the upper hand as the man of the manor and the almighty Alpha of the most prestigious and affluent pack of two regions — the Eastern and Southern regions— put together. This had caused a lot of enemies for him, but his ruthlessness and powerfulness made other Alphas scared to find themselves locked in a confrontation or dispute with him. His father, the last Alpha, had been a force to reckon with, while he, the son, was a force no one dared reckon with. I’d been from the average class, and discovering the Alpha had taken an intimate interest in me had been my sole chance to leave that boring, low life. Though, undeniably, my feelings for the Alpha were true, that didn’t turn me into a dimwit. I would fight any threat that would rear its ugly head and try to upset my position as the Luna of this highest and most powerful pack in two whole regions and as the Alpha’s bride. I tend to retain this position and remain in his life. Which was why I had Taiban, one of the prison guards, be on the lookout for me when the Alpha had requested for that little human girl to be thrown in the cell. That had been shocking for me; the Alpha was never known to leave humans alive when caught. They were either killed immediately or made to labor to death. His verdict upon her had caused quite a stir among those that had been around to witness it; Evan Ragel had been thrown in a cell and sentenced to a ten-day imprisonment.
