Chapter 1 Your Sister Deserves Better

  • Sitting in front of the vanity mirror, Alyssa was silent as she waited for the makeup artist to apply her makeup.
  • Her eyes were lifeless and mink was blank. Everything felt purposeless and barren.
  • Suddenly, the door opened, and her mother, Aurora, hurried in. When she saw Alyssa’s messy hair and her long gray jacket that went with the gray look on her face, she instantly got furious.
  • “The Lawrences are here. Why have you not changed your clothes?”
  • Alyssa pushed the black-rimmed glasses on the bridge of her nose and turned to her mother. She looked dejected. “Mom, do you really want to do this? Do you really want me to marry my sister’s fiancée?”
  • That’s right. Today was her wedding.
  • And the man she was marrying to was her elder sister’s fiancée.
  • Aurora felt that she was making a big mistake by doing this and her face turned white with anxiety.
  • The Lawrences were waiting outside. If they heard that the brides were changed at the last moment, it would cause a huge trouble. A simple mistake could destroy their whole family!
  • Aurora looked towards the door in fear. She then came in front of Alyssa and knelt down on the ground. Tears filled her eyes. “Alyssa, I know you don’t want this arrangement. But I beg you. Your sister deserves better. We can’t let her marry that man and ruin her life. You are her sister. Why don’t you just help her!”
  • Alyssa’s hopeless eyes gradually became cold. They couldn’t let her sister marry that man and ruin her life, so they were sending her to marry in her sister’s place.
  • Weren’t they afraid that her life would be ruined too?
  • Alyssa looked at the woman who was kneeling in front of her. Would anyone believe that this woman was her own biological mother?
  • Although Aurora was her biological mother, she had favored the children of her father’s deceased ex-wife, to the point that, she could gamble with her own daughter’s life.
  • Aurora knew very well that Alyssa’s sister’s fiancée was ugly and impotent, but she wanted Alyssa to marry him anyway.
  • The servant’s pleadings could be heard outside the door. “Madam, the Lawrences are upstairs.”
  • Aurora got even more anxious. “Alyssa, please. . .”
  • “Okay. Stop.” Alyssa didn’t reach out to help Aurora from the ground. She indifferently said, “Get up. I’ll go.”
  • This time, she really had lost her all hopes to this family.
  • When her own biological mother did not care about her, why would she blame other people?
  • Opening the door, she saw a group of strange bodyguards standing outside the door. They were cold and solemn, looking at her indifferently.
  • So, these were the people the Lawrences sent to pick her up.
  • She was going to marry someone today without a wedding or a groom.
  • “Let’s go.” She said and walked straight downstairs first. She did not care if anyone came to see her off.
  • She went outside and directly sat in the Marcedes Benz that came to pick her up.
  • The Lawrence family was the richest and most influential family in the Holston City. Their only heir, Emmett Lawrence, was disfigured and was impotent after he was kidnapped more than ten years ago.
  • Since then, he had not appeared in public. No one knew how he looked, but he was rumored to be brutal and ugly. And it was said that no woman sent into his house came out alive.
  • He was her sister’s fiancée and now her husband.
  • Alyssa leaned on the window and looked outside blankly, while her heart shattered into millions of pieces.
  • There was no greater sorrow than heartbreak caused by the betrayal of your family.
  • Even if he was a devil, it did not matter. She just needed to satisfy her family’s needs, fulfil their wishes.
  • Her own mother had abandoned her to a monster, without any care or sorrow.
  • She was completely alone in this world.
  • Arriving at Emmett’s villa, the bodyguards took her into a room, and then they all left.
  • Alyssa looked around the room but did not see anyone. He was not here.
  • She sat on the bed and sighed. She did not know what would happen to her life.
  • It wasn’t until the sky outside the window turned completely dark that the door was opened again.
  • Alyssa turned her head and vaguely saw a tall and strong man walk in from the door.
  • He closed the door and turned on the lights.
  • Alyssa outstretched her hand to block the blinding light. Then she raised her head to see the man in front of her.
  • At a glance, she froze.
  • It wasn’t because the man was terrifyingly ugly, but because he was incredibly handsome!
  • He was so handsome that it almost blinded her eyes!
  • A dark suit wrapped around his tall, muscular body. His pair of long legs strode towards her confidently.
  • His facial contour was deep and perfect, like an exquisite work of art.
  • Emmett looked at Alyssa for a few seconds, his eyebrows twisted slightly. “Very ugly.”
  • He said this with a calm tone, no extra emotions could be discerned from his voice.
  • Alyssa looked back in shock. She didn’t care much about him saying she was ugly. She only looked at him with a look of defense and said, “Who are you?”
  • Who was this man? And why did he come in her room on the first night of her marriage?
  • His ink-colored pupils radiated a harsh light, and his voice was deep. “You don’t know who you married to?”
  • As he got close, his brisk breath sent a shiver down Alyssa’s spine.
  • His powerful aura stifled her slightly and she felt the pressure in her heart. But she still straightened her back and said, “Of course, I know. The person I’ll marry is named Emmett Lawrence!”
  • Emmett heard the words and the sharpness in his eyes gradually converged, replaced with a trace of clarity. Another woman who believed the rumors, destined to marry an ‘ugly and impotent’ man.
  • But compared to other woman, her expression seemed to be too calm. This made Emmett interested in her.
  • He smiled, acting calm and collected. “So, you are my sister-in-law? I am Justin, Emmett’s cousin. I guess on the wedding night, nobody wants to be with such a waste of a man, not even you!”
