Chapter 23 Shuttered

• Amaya stood in the bathroom, disappointed to see her periods. She had checked her temperature, timed her ovulation and made sure that she and Tresh constantly made love on those days but it did not work. A year had passed since they started trying, the fertility specialist could not find any medical reasons for them not conceiving. This meant they just had to be patient and keep trying because there was nothing they could do to fast track the situation and they were not willing to try in vitro or surrogacy as yet. She took a shower and got into bed. It was still early for bed but she did not feel like having small talks with Daniel, Tresh or anyone who could show up for a visit. She had just closed her eyes when the door opened and Tresh walked in. Still fully dressed, he silently got into bed next to her and pulled her to his arms.
• “It’s okay Babe, it will happen,” he said softly. He had also been tracking her cycles and knew when she did not come down for supper that they were not successful again that month.
• Two weeks later, Amaya came back from work to find Tresh siting in the lounge with Red, a notorious hip hop artist accused by different women of sexual harassment and recently, rumours that he constantly beat up his mother when under the influence of drugs.
