Chapter 35 The Plan

• “We’ll be leaving in thirty minutes,”Francis notified David. He is ready to go to the wedding that morning. Last night , when his brother ,Bobby, went to see him at Jessie’s house, he decided to start anew. His brother’s wedding is becoming the turning point of his life. Their lives. It is time, he tells himself, he is going to be there for him. For his special day. It is not his day, yet. Let it be his brother’s day. He is past ready. He walked to the door, David is waiting for him. Today is the day!
• The solemn ceremony started even before the guests started coming. The bride and groom are there, accompanied by their parents. After the rituals and prayers, there they are sat on a platform not too far away from the front door.The area is decorated with the traditional woven tapestry. Marlyn, wearing the traditional skirt , beads around her head for the first time, looks stunningly beautiful. Albeit her physical features told she is not of the tribe. Her womanly look is accentuated. Bobby is sitting near her while their parents sit beside them. Like what was originally planned, the wedding is to be done in purely traditional way. There is no mass unlike most of the weddings these days. Their tribal wedding is just as valid as the church wedding, it has been realized recently for even the registrar acknowledges this type of wedding. The reason, the whole community is present to witness the union between the man and the woman. What can be more valid than that?
• The guests started arriving, Georgina Cawili’s residence is becoming crowded like it never were. People are dressed casually, like they would dress themselves during normal days, except for those who opted to come with their traditional costumes who are usually the old women. But in the local culture, there is no prescribed dress for occasions like this. Just come as you are, be merry.
