• The trio reached Brianna’s former cottage after a quick walk and Nate was beginning to get anxious. This part of the story was more sensitive, and any missed detail could undermine his efforts. His expression was casual and relaxed, but his heart was pounding like a racing horse inside his ribcage.
• They needed to believe him, otherwise not only his position within the organization would be endangered, but also his safety. Nobody hid something as powerful as Brianna from them and went unpunished.
• He almost believed that was the main reason he wanted them to fall for his story, but deep down he knew his major goal was to keep her out of danger. There were safer stories to tell, but they all ended up with the Council chasing after Bree. He was angry and hurt, but he was not willing to risk her life.
