Chapter 14

• Nate patted the bed hoping to bring a tiny warm body closer to him, letting out a frustrated sight when he found it cold. He stretched lazily, imagining the morning meal she might be cooking for them. He could get used to it, though he would prefer to wake up by her side to replay the indescribable events of the previous night.
• That was only their second time together and he was already picturing a future there, but how couldn’t he, when she had agreed to work with him for the Council? He was not sure how it worked for them, having a pair under the organization, but they could surely figure it out. They would do anything to have her by their side, he was confident of it.
• The lower floor of her small cottage was empty by the time he went down, causing Nate to frown. His next attempt was their clearing, then by the river’s source. Time after time he found himself alone and his cheerful mood was gradually replaced by a colder one.
