Chapter 9 Stirring Trouble

  • “I'm not leaving. I just want to be with you, Claudio. Why don't we run away? Let's run away from here. Why? Why do you have to marry her?”
  • At long last, Roselle was so tired of crying that her eyes became dull.
  • When her family came to pick her up, she refused to leave. Claudio had no choice but to carry her out. “Take good care of her.”
  • That night, Claudio had a splitting headache.
  • He went to his study and carefully read through the pages of documents that he had obtained from his father.
  • He didn't know if it was right for him to marry a girl that he had never met just over some documents.
  • We're just using each other.
  • At the thought of this, he didn't feel as conflicted anymore.
  • The next morning, Annalise was puzzled when someone passed her a basin of water just as she sat down at the dining table to have her breakfast.
  • Aryana looked at her and scoffed, “As expected from someone who grew up in a poor family. You don't even know what this is. Even if you don't know, you must have a TV at least. Don't tell me that you can't even afford to watch TV?”
  • Annalise clenched her fist and told herself to endure it.
  • Following that, she observed Aryana's every movement and imitated her actions.
  • “There's such a vast difference between her and Roselle. How did Claudio end up marrying someone like her?” Aryana muttered just loud enough for Annalise to hear.
  • Markus, who was by her side, cleared his throat and reminded her. “If Annalise doesn't know what this is, why don't you teach her as her sister-in-law? Why is there a need for you to mention others?”
  • “Can't I just make a comparison? If anyone introduces someone like this to my son in the future, I'll knock myself dead in front of them,” Aryana said while glaring at Annalise, who was sitting just opposite of her.
  • “That's enough!” Markus was no fool and had completely understood his wife's words.
  • It was clear that she was mocking Annalise, who had been introduced to Claudio by Dominic and himself.
  • “You're just Claudio's sister-in-law. You have no right to interfere in Claudio's marriage!” Markus fumed.
  • Dominic slowly walked over. “What's all the fuss about?”
  • He felt much better after having a good night's sleep and wasn't mad at Annalise anymore.
  • Sitting down, he noticed that the seat beside Annalise was empty. “Annalise, where's Claudio? Go and get him to come down for breakfast.”
  • Annalise looked toward the empty seat beside her. She didn't know how she should tell Dominic that Claudio wasn't at home.
  • Benson instantly understood Annalise's dilemma, so he spoke up. “Mr. Claudio left the house last night. Perhaps he went to the office.”
  • “What? How could he go to the office on his wedding night? Didn't I tell you to keep an eye on him? Why didn't anyone tell me about this last night? Is everyone trying to rebel against me?” Dominic flew into a rage.
  • Aryana said sarcastically, “He doesn't like the person he had to sleep with. That's why he ran away.”
  • “Shut up!” Markus barked.
  • It was only the second day that Annalise became part of the family, but she was already getting pushed around without her even uttering a single word.
  • Markus couldn't stand the way Aryana was behaving. He dragged her away from the dining table.
  • Dominic slammed the table in fury. “Get Claudio to come back. He's being too ridiculous.”
  • “Yes, Sir.”
  • Once they got back to their bedroom, Markus shook off Aryana's hand. He pointed at her and spat, “You think I don't know what you're trying to do? You're frustrated. You're unhappy. But you're just Claudio's sister-in-law. You have no right to interfere in his marriage! And don't think that I don't know what you're planning for Lucas in the future. Whatever Lucas does in the future is entirely up to him. You have no right to dictate how he should live his life.”
  • “What do you mean by that? You better explain your words. What plans are you talking about? Markus, I've been married to you for twenty years, but I'm nothing compared to Annalise who just married into the family! I think Annalise is the one you're in love with!”
  • “Bullsh*t!” Markus cursed through gritted teeth. He raised his hand and almost landed a slap on Aryana's face.
