Chapter 8 Yaleview Mansion

  • Claudio was using his actions to show Annalise that he detested her.
  • It was only the first day that she was married into the Jundt family, but her father-in-law was already displeased with her, and her husband was giving her the cold shoulder.
  • With a sigh, Annalise headed back to her room in exhaustion.
  • The entire room was decorated in such a way that Annalise felt as if it was mocking her.
  • She tidied up the couch and left everything else untouched. Once she was done, she lay on top of the couch and shut her eyes.
  • When Markus returned to his bedroom, Aryana was already lying in bed. “Aryana, why don't you go and accompany Annalise? It's her first day of marriage, and Claudio is already giving her the cold shoulder. If word goes out, everyone will think that our family is heartless.”
  • Aryana was unhappy about Claudio and Annalise's marriage. She had initially objected to it, but no one had listened to her. “Why should I go if she can't even keep her husband at home?”
  • “Aryana, you're her sister-in-law and the lady of the house. You're the most suitable person to go and accompany her.”
  • “She has shamelessly put aside her pride and agreed to this marriage. Do you think she is worthy?” Aryana switched off the lamp on the nightstand. “Go to sleep.”
  • At nightfall, Claudio drove toward Yaleview Mansion all by himself.
  • It was his true home. He spent most of his time here, as he simply couldn't bring himself to stay at the Jundt residence for more than ten days.
  • Besides, he wasn't used to staying at the Jundt residence, so he had eventually chosen to come back to Yaleview Mansion.
  • After he parked his car, he noticed that a drunk woman was sitting at his doorstep. She was holding a wine bottle in her hand, glancing at the headlights that were shining at her with a dazed expression.
  • The headlights dimmed, and Claudio stepped out of his car.
  • “What are you doing here?” he asked as he walked toward the door.
  • Roselle Tallinger looked at him and sobbed, “Why? Why do you have to marry her?”
  • Tears rolled down from the corner of her eyes to the tip of her nose. Her eyes were red and puffy. It seemed that she had been crying for a long time.
  • Roselle, decked in a red dress, stood before his door and said softly, “Tell me, Claudio.”
  • She had cried until there wasn't a single ounce of energy left in her, and she didn't even have the strength to get up.
  • “You're drunk,” Claudio said.
  • “I'm not. Claudio, you know how I feel. I've been in love with you for fifteen years. I'm the one who has stayed by your side for the longest time. I thought if you were to get married, that person would be me. Why does it have to be her? Is it really because she's younger than me?”
  • Claudio walked up the steps. He bent over, carried her, and brought her into the mansion.
  • “This is not who you are. Tell me why you married her. You don't love her. I'm the one you love, right?” Roselle continued wailing.
  • Claudio laid her down on the couch. “Sober up and get going.”
  • “No! I was right, wasn't I? You're just trying to run away from the truth. Claudio, if you really loved her, you wouldn't be out here alone on your wedding night. If you really loved her, you wouldn't have brought her to the Jundt residence. You would have brought her here instead.”
  • Roselle bawled her eyes out and continued, “I've stayed by your side for fifteen years. I know you. The girl who gets to move into Yaleview Mansion is the one you truly love. Claudio, I'm that girl, right? Why did you marry her? Who is she? Why does she have to break us apart?”
  • Ever since Roselle knew that Claudio was going to get married, her father had locked her in her room, as he was worried that she would disrupt their wedding. She was only let out of her room at night.
  • Roselle couldn't accept the fact that her beloved man had married someone else.
  • Claudio looked at the woman, who was sobbing uncontrollably by his side. He realized that he didn't have the answer to any of her questions.
  • At last, he decided to call her family. “She's here with me, and she's drunk. Please come and take her home.”
