Chapter 5 First Squabble Of The Couple

  • Claudio's ear twitched as though he was sensitive to her breath. Then, he nodded and lifted his head to look at the priest.
  • The latter understood the meaning of his gaze. Thus, he smiled and repeated his question at once. “Do you, the bride, take this man... till death do you part?”
  • “I do!” Annalise nodded her head vehemently and verbalized her answer in a loud voice.
  • At that, relief washed over Dominic's and Annalise's parents.
  • The priest turned to ask the groom. “Do you, the groom, take this woman... till death do you part?”
  • “I do.”
  • His words were as weighty as a boulder to Annalise.
  • Once again, she raised her head to size up the man standing next to her. It doesn't matter whether this is a trade; he's my husband from now on!
  • “The couple may now exchange rings.”
  • Applause resounded throughout the venue.
  • Hearing the claps of the guests, Annalise took the initiative to ask Claudia a question, hoping to alleviate the awkwardness between them. “Is clapping necessary during the exchange of rings?”
  • Yet, he ignored her, merely grabbing her hand roughly and forcing the ring onto her ring finger.
  • That did not make a good impression on Annalise. What a rough man!
  • When it was her turn to put the ring on him, she purposely squeezed it onto his ring finger with might and main as well.
  • The pain caused Claudio to stare at Annalise, his petty newly-wedded wife, in the eye.
  • She's so petite and petty.
  • Annalise was even ready to go head to head with Claudio when she suddenly locked eyes with him again. His eyes were filled with an unfathomable emotion as he stared at her, making her feel irritated.
  • She mistook that as Claudio holding a grudge against her for exerting too much force earlier on.
  • He's also a petty man!
  • Within a day, their wedding was completed.
  • That night, Annalise followed the members of the Jundt family to their residence.
  • She closed her eyes, unable to bring herself to face the fact that it was her wedding night with Claudio. “What do I do tonight?” she muttered to herself as she bit her lip nervously.
  • As the door opened, she anxiously opened her eyes and stood up from the end of the bed.
  • Watching the man walk in, she tensed up and gulped.
  • Goosebumps covered her entire body at the thought that she might have to share a bed with him.
  • Claudio walked further into the room, heading toward Annalise.
  • Flustered, she backed away. “L-Let's introduce ourselves! My name is Annalise Guiver, and I'm twenty this year. I'll be a sophomore after the summer holidays. I-I...”
  • “How did you manage to convince him?”
  • Claudio's eyes were full of hostility as he looked at the young woman standing in front of him. He had hastily agreed to the marriage without giving it much thought as he was desperate for the information in his father's hands.
  • There're so many people who want to unite with our family by means of marriage. So how did this plain Jane manage to persuade that obstinate old fart so that she could marry me?
  • Annalise was taken aback. “Your statement came out of nowhere. I don't understand what you mean at all.”
  • Claudio went on, “Don't covet things that don't belong to you, Annalise Guiver. Don't think that life will be easy now that you've married into the Jundt family. In fact, it's the contrary.”
  • The young lady finally understood what he was trying to imply—he suspected that she utilized underhanded methods to coerce Dominic so that she could marry him.
  • To get rid of the misunderstanding between the two, Annalise slowly explained, “Claudio, were you forced into this too? So was I.”
  • Claudio sneered at her. “Guiver Group accepted at least fifteen projects within a single day today. And you have the gall to tell me that you were forced into this?”
  • His tone of speech instantly made Annalise blow a fuse.
  • She tried to explain things kindly, but he did not believe her at all. “Claudio Jundt, are you insulting my dad by saying he sold his daughter for profits? Let me tell you this—if it weren't for your father forcing me, my dad would never let me marry into your family even if he had to starve to death!”
