Chapter 3 Her Husband

  • It was said that the Jundt family had spent a lot of money to hire a renowned designer from Nardor to have Annalise's bridal gown custom-made. For them to spend tens of millions on the attire certainly showed their respect for the Guiver family.
  • Even though Annalise was donning such an expensive bridal gown, there was not a hint of joy on her face.
  • She looked at her reflection in the mirror. With the disappearance of the red mark on her face, her beautiful appearance had recovered.
  • Not only was her complexion fair, but there was also some baby hair remaining on her face. Both her cheeks seemed plump, giving her a cherubic appearance that shaved a few years off her age.
  • However, she was young to begin with.
  • Fiona entered and waved her hand, dismissing the makeup artist. Only the mother-daughter duo remained in the room.
  • “Annalise, you shouldn't have agreed to this.”
  • Annalise smiled as she comforted her mother, “I happened to feel that marriage would be pretty fun! Hehe.”
  • Fiona stretched out her arm and placed her hand on her daughter's head. A tinge of guilt flashed across her eyes as she gently caressed Annalise's face. “Annalise, what did Old Mr. Jundt say to you when he asked you to stay back that day?” she prompted.
  • The young lady was stunned for a brief moment. Memories of what Dominic had said that day came flooding into her mind.
  • “Annalise, do you know the consequence of getting into the Jundt family's bad books?”
  • Annalise kept quiet.
  • Dominic continued, “You know it very well, yet your eyes tell me you're not afraid of offending our family. But have you taken your parents into consideration? What about your little brother? One cannot live so selfishly. You should have heard of Wesnon Corporation, right?”
  • Annalise turned wide-eyed as she stared at Dominic incredulously.
  • Wesnon Corporation was a century-old enterprise in Zaprington, Dartan. Not only did they own a huge business, but they also had powerful backers. Despite that, Wesnon Corporation fell into bankruptcy within a mere day. Some company executives ended up in prison, while some fled overseas, too afraid to return home.
  • The Guiver family could not even be compared to Wesnon Corporation from back then. Annalise did not dare to imagine the outcome if Dominic employed the same tactics to deal with her family.
  • Annalise had subconsciously clenched her fists tightly and only spoke after a long silence. “Old Mr. Jundt, may I know why you chose me?”
  • Dominic flashed her a smile. His eyes twinkled as he responded, “It's a funny story. I'll tell you when the time is ripe.”
  • Annalise nodded. “I hope it won't take too long.”
  • “Does that mean you've agreed to marry Claudio?”
  • “The condition is that you can't do anything to my family. It wasn't easy for my parents to establish their business.”
  • That was the end of her flashback. Upon recollecting herself, Annalise looked at her mother's worried countenance and forced a cheery grin. “Nothing much! Mom, the Jundt family is actually a good choice. Not only is their family large, but they also have a mammoth corporation! You and Dad shouldn't worry so much about this.”
  • Meanwhile, in another place, Dominic took out a bundle of documents and a flash drive. “All the information that you're looking for is right here.”
  • When Claudio reached out to take them, Dominic kept them away, saying, “Come and get them from me after the wedding.”
  • Left with no choice as he was held to ransom by his own father, Claudio acquiesced. As his Adam's apple bobbed, he put on his groom attire and exited the room.
  • With that, a marriage began.
  • Many guests came to attend the wedding on that day.
  • Representatives of the media and the paparazzi were shut outside. The Jundt family did not invite anyone who did not have some form of social status.
  • News of Claudio's marriage crushed the hopes of countless people. With him marrying the daughter of the Guiver family, the status of the Guivers was suddenly elevated to new heights, and they became part of the upper-class social circle.
  • In the bride's dressing room, Annalise was on tenterhooks about the new life that she would soon experience.
  • It was time.
  • Picking up the hems of her gown, she walked awkwardly in heels toward her father, who was waiting patiently for her. The redness in his eyes had her swallow the wave of emotions churning within her.
  • The doors opened, and all the lights in the venue shone on her and Joshua.
  • Linking arms with her father, Annalise began her walk down the aisle paved by scattered petals.
  • From a distance, she eyed the man waiting for her at the end of the aisle.
  • It was her first time seeing her soon-to-be husband, Claudio Jundt, in the flesh.
