• The room felt warm but not entirely comfortable, an underlying buzz in my stomach. It's humid enough for the fabric of my shirt to stick too close to the skin, for palms to become too slick with sweat. I could feel the chair dig in the meat of my thighs, eyes focused on a bundle of folders.
• Despite trying, Jade was unsuccessful in figuring out the actual killer, so I took matters into my hand. There is no way I will let my father's murderer roam free in our pack. For that, I began tracking the payments listed in the record books, knowing that my father personally wrote them. So far, nothing stood out to me.
