Chapter 25

  • It was a miracle that I somehow managed to make it back home in one piece. Reeds interest paired with that intense atmosphere around was not a good idea. By the time I rushed out of there, I was still having trouble taking deep breaths, my heartbeat fast and erratic, hands trembling with suppressed nervous energy.
  • What would happen if he finds out, though? I suppressed all the memories in a box, locked it tight and threw the key somewhere. Will the deal fall through? Does that mean the end of our business relationship? I sunk my teeth on the bottom lip, toes curling in the sandals. Ignoring those thoughts, I tried to muster a smile and step through the door. 
  • Upon entering, I frowned at the dark lighting in the room. Turning on the nearest switch, I noticed that my parent's room was already closed. My eyes went to the clock, and I realised that they must be already asleep.
