Chapter 5

  • Emilia’s POV
  • My eyes swept around the room in search of my father. He had been meticulous in preparing for the party. The entire Ryanwood Mansion was decorated like a bride. A thick red carpet covered the floor of the splendid hall. Tables and chairs were neatly arranged in a circular pattern. They were covered with white silk cloth tied up tastefully with red ribbons.
  • Vases with exotic flowers adorned the tables. The railings of the staircase that led to the second floor were decorated with orchid garlands.
  • But, where was he? He hadn’t met me since he returned from the trip. My eyes teared up when I finally found him in the lounge. It had been so long since I saw him. Our eyes met and I made a move toward him but he shook his head.
  • He was surrounded by the Alphas of other packs and they were probably discussing something important. My lips pressed into a thin line and I lowered my head. I should have gotten used to it by now.
  • Letting out a deep sigh, I made my way toward my friends. The party continued as people chatted, danced, and drank to their content. I joined in chattering and laughing but deep down I felt empty.
  • A large rainbow cake was wheeled in at sharp 7.00 pm. Amidst loud cheers and applause, I cut the cake. Later, we all went to the bar. I ordered a mocktail and sat down on the barstool offered by Henry.
  • I was about to sip her drink when Astia appeared out of nowhere. She flashed her a smile and said, "Did your princess tell you that she has found her mate too?"
  • The color drained from my face and I glared at Astia. How in the world did she find out? Now, she would use it to get back at me. I was tempted to throw her out of the party but I didn't want to create a scene.
  • Everyone started pestering me with questions about my mate. In the end, I became frustrated and said, "You all can meet him when he comes to the party. Don't bother me with your questions and let me enjoy my birthday bash."
  • This seemed to assuage my friends and they got back to gossiping about other stuff. Jenna leaned in and whispered, "Do you think he will show up here?"
  • "No way! No one in this hall would invite someone like him to my party. Not even my servants...."
  • I had just finished saying this when my eyes landed on the man entering the hall. I felt like a bolt of lightning had struck me. He was none other than my blind, beggar mate. He was dressed in better clothes today yet he looked oddly out of place.
  • I held my breath hoping that the guards would throw him out. But, he flashed the invite and walked straight inside, shattering all my hopes.
  • My nails dug into my wrists drawing out blood. Who the f*** had invited him? Once I figured this out, I was going to kill that person with her bare hands.
  • I kept glaring at Astia who was standing in a corner. David, her Omega mate, had his arms wrapped around her. He brushed the locks of hair that were scattered on her forehead and tucked them behind her ears. I couldn't bear to see them all lovey-dovey.
  • Astia had come to my party; she was enjoying my wine. Yet she had ruined my day by telling everyone about my mate. I had to teach her a lesson.
  • I picked up the goblet of red wine from the counter and sashayed towards the couple. Astia eyed me warily and she drew closer to David; almost burying her small frame against his.
  • This made me smile with scorn. I tilted the goblet over my white heels. The cool, red liquid landed with a splash, leaving a large mark.
  • Astia's eyebrows furrowed as she gaped at me with a bewildered expression. The smile playing on my lips widened and I threw a napkin at Astia, "Clean my shoes."
  • Her eyes widened. Shaking her head, she said in an incredulous voice, "Why would I do that?"
  • "Cause you are an Omega's mate. That is what they do. They serve the Alpha females," I replied, tossing my head proudly. "Now, hurry up! I have a lot of work to do."
  • Her hands balled into a tight fist and her jaws clenched. Glaring at me, she said in a voice shaking with anger, "I WILL NEVER DO THAT! EMILIA RYANWOOD?"
  • My eyes narrowed at her arrogance. She wanted to do this the hard way. So be it. I crossed my arms over my chest and commanded, "David! Come here."
  • He released Astia from his embrace and walked quietly toward me. He stopped a few feet away from me and stood there with his head bowed.
  • I kept my eyes locked on Astia as I instructed further, "Crouch on the ground and lower your back.”
  • Her face flushed when she saw her mate follow each of my commands obediently. I snorted and shook my head. Astia should have thought about this before accepting an Omega as her mate.
  • I placed my feet on David's back; exerting enough force so that he was lying almost flat on the floor.
  • Cheers and hoots filled the room as her classmates watched in admiration.
  • "Way to go girl...."
  • "How dare an Omega refuse a direct command from Alpha Female."
  • "Yes, this little b**** needs to be taught a lesson."
  • Astia's eyes stung with tears of humiliation and she hung her head. I felt a surge of pity but I wasn’t ready to forgive her yet. My voice was devoid of any emotions as I ordered, "Come here and clean my shoes, Astia, or do you want me to torture your mate more?"
  • Astia's entire body was shaking like a leaf. She stifled a sob as she drew closer to me. Keeping her eyes fixed on the ground, she mumbled, "Give me your boots, I will clean them.”
  • "I don't have time for that, girl. Just clean it like this." I wanted to see her bent over my feet. I had helped her on so many occasions yet she had dared to betray me.
  • A groan escaped David's lips as the sharp heels dug into his back. But, he didn't move. He kept his body unmoving lest I fell. My father might not care about me but he never let anyone from the pack disrespect me.
  • Astia's hands trembled as she cleaned my boots. She had to spend a lot of time cleaning it up since they were white; all the while listening to the laughter and jeers. The moment she was done, she ran out of the room sobbing.
  • "Can I get up now?" David asked in a pained voice. He seemed desperate to comfort his mate. Wouldn’t that lessen the impact of my action?
  • "Not yet, stay where you are,” I said in a nonchalant voice before following Astia out of the bar. I couldn't understand why she still hadn't rejected David. She could have avoided all the humiliation that way.
  • My feet came to a halt near the staircase as a strong scent of musk and sandalwood assaulted me. My eyes darted sideways almost reflexively.
  • There in the corner, sheltered by the back of the staircase was the blind man. His forehead was creased with deep lines and his angular jaws seemed sharp as if he were locked together. I couldn't stop myself from moving closer to him.
  • When she was a few feet away, he raised his hand, effectively stopping me. "I am glad that you are a mean and despicable person. I won't feel bad about rejecting you anymore. I am kind of relieved."
  • My jaws hung open as I snapped, "Who the hell do you think you are? What makes you think that YOU are qualified to be my mate." My voice grew louder with every word she spoke.
  • Then realizing that I was in the middle of a party, I lowered my voice, "If I wasn't too shocked by your statement, I would have rejected you in the first meeting. Do you think I would want to be mated to a BLIND BEGGAR?"
  • Nivaan's expression remained unchanged. In fact, a small smile played on his lips as he said, "Then I think you should go ahead and reject me. Actually, it will be better if YOU reject me."
  • My lips parted but no words came out. His indifference startled me. I couldn't understand how someone could be nonchalant about being rejected.
  • I wanted to reject him, yes. But not like this. I wanted him to feel and understand what he had lost.
  • When I didn't say anything, he pushed me out of the way roughly, "I will wait for you to make up your mind then." Thrusting a card into her hand, he added, "Call me whenever you are ready to reject me."
  • Then he walked away without any hesitation. My blood boiled at his indifference. With an angry growl, I hurled the goblet toward him but to my surprise, he dodged it casually and continued walking.
  • The goblet fell to the floor with a crash and the shards scattered everywhere. "Arghhh!!" I growled in frustration and stomped my feet. I was going to kill that b*****d!
  • I turned on my heels and ran up the stairs; ignoring the surprised stares and murmurs. I was too angry to care about anything else.
